Everyone can always use another mathom, right? This one, I think, shows the skill of CT very well. It may have been part of a series called ‘Heroes of Ireland’, but then again it may have been a special release by PA. Anyway, it is well researched and finely sculpted. It reminds me of some of the better historical figures out there.

I will consider this too … if you don’t mind.
The person in the pic Master Kenakko provided really seems to picture an Irish hero … but the uniform does not meet those of the times when Patrick Sarsfield was living. It comes close to the uniforms the Irish officers wore at the “Easter Rising”. Here you might find a connection to the idea of the range called “Irish Heroes”. (I do not recall all those marvel-faces in Dublin exactly)
I always wondered why in 1995 “King Arthur” became a Christmas figure as obviously he’s not part of Tolkien’s Work.
Regarding the shape and structure of the base in the pic I would like to say that that one fits with the early 52mm releases such as the MA1. oval
I’ll try to find out more about all this …

if you look at the Edman collection of Historical Heroes, most of them have been made by Chris Tubb.. and there is a Patrick Sarsfield but not the one from the Christmas edition it seems… but thre is one, sculpted by the Man… as there also are many celtic mythical characters (cuchulain etc)

Hello there,
I’m new member of MMP – a collector of Mithril figures since June 2005 having previously collected LOTR figures from ‘the other company’ – and I would like to say that the 1991 Xmas figure is not a chimera: it exists, I won it on ebay in the Spring of 2007 from a seller in England for £10 (along with a bare metal version of the 1992 Christmas Galadriel).

I don’t own a digital camera, so I can’t upload images of it at the moment (I’ll try and borrow a camera soon though), suffice it to say that apart from the bare metal finish the 1991 Patrick Sarsfield figure looks pretty identical to the Edman Collection figure, it has a rectangular base under which is inscribed PRINCE AUGUST XMAS 1991 – it has a height of 60mm.

Galadriel is 60mm, has a hexagonal base underneath which is PRINCE AUGUST GALADRIEL 1992 – next to galadriel is a small number 2.

Now all we need to find is the Isildur vignette!

I suppose a lot of members want to see the christmas figure which is in your house.
And as far as I am concerned: I do want to see that Isildur Vignette

Hasty-Hasty-like master theobald would say, I suppose . . . I think that works very fast, gondolin, also the course of how to use a digital camera AND make acceptable pics- that don´t have to be that way . . .
( there were a discussion of the difficulty of making photos in this forum already !

I still have to cope with that Sarsfield figure as it is so much different from other pieces Chis Tubb sculpted – of course the figure has to look absolutely different than those figures based on Tolkien’s writings.
Well, the 1992 Lady is a nice piece, isn’t it? (I’ve got her, too)

I have to agree with the sentiments (however expressed) above about the Sarsfield figure. It’s not one of Chris’ best. It looks very rough in fact, lacking the level of detail available in this scale. So much from the ‘everyone’s a critic department:) Thanks for the pics of something so rare and welcome!

Still, I might speak for those who do not have Xmas 1991! Rough as he is, I still would like P Sarsfield for my collection. Sometimes rarity makes up for quality–old stamps and ancient coins are examples.

Yes, rarity is indeed important – but sometimes I try to apply autosuggestion against aquisition syndroms (“You do not need it, it is not nice, not Middle Earth, …”)
