I took time behind this figure looking for Ebay and don´t get. Does Anyone know why is it so rare? It had its time in less spin than other figures or simply I’m having bad luck….

Mhhhhh- master erchamion, I agree to you. I don´t know when I have seen this miniature on german ebay .
I still wonder, which miniature has the “rare” status and which not. I think I should have this ringwraith, my list tell me this,
but I don´t know when I have seen this miniature at home. :/
By for now from Christoph and give my regards to the Alhambra

well I don’t know why but as you can see on its reference sheet : [mith]M329[/mith] , this reference IS rare and its average price is 32€ … When i filled this reference sheet I was wondering why too… I really don’t know but so far Zoetrop statistics have been quite accurate and well this one is indeed rare :(

(don’t forget to check the rarity and average price on my database, that’s all here for that purpose, and tends to be as accurate as possible)

I just can say that many years ago it took me a very long time (maybe it was about two years all in all) to get hold of that nasty guy on Ebay. Still I cannot provide any explanation for that rarity.
Another example is the Gondorian M7. But for that one there was the explanation that many ‘wargamers’ bought the figure for filling a part of an army (and still keep them) when it was provided by Mithril. That makes sense to me. But for that Nazgûl … I don’t know. Though it is a very dynamic figure, close to LR20.

Your explanation makes sense, clearly, Master Theobald. I always forget the ” wargaming” background. Nevertheless it is quiet interesting to see the “rarity-status” in general. It seems, that the Elf-Warrior of Nargothrond ( M 247 ) has got the same fate. By the way: this is a really magnificent figure indeed. I have to trade it with my Celebrimbor variety of the old fellowship . :|
A very hard deal. I remember, that Turin Turambar – wearing the dragon helmet ( M 220 )- was about 75 Euro on german-ebay two or three years ago. So I suggest to put him in VERY RARE status ! ;)
I am kidding. As mentioned, it is quiet interesting to see the “rarity-status” in general. Don´t let us get the discussion to the point: . . . and I have spent on the figure . . . . The paths are inscrutable.
PS: puuhhh- Turin Turambar wearing the dragon helmet of Dor-Lómin- I remember, that I am currently working on it . . .

a nice scene indeed :) the pic is a bit blurry though :)

as for trading a M247 with a MS225… well that’s a very unfair trade… the MS225 is still available from Mithril if you ask them, they are fellowship only but not yet “discontinued” at all, they are for sale on their website at 16,50€… while M247 is among the rarest figurines of all the Mithril range… (the rarest of the Turin range which in itself is very rare because removed from market due to licensing problems if I remember well… these are silmarillion figurines and are not authorized by licence)

Yes, master Gildor, and I realized that figure is classified as rare in the database. But not understand how relatively new figures (M300 onwards) may be so rare. We are not speaking as the M16, a small circulation figures due to breakage of mold or something similar. The commentary by master Theobald has enough sense, but I do not know an army of Nazgûl………. still …….. :P

Very nice image Christoph, please hold the camerea steady and take another picture :D so we can see it in its full glory. Seeing that may induce me to buy some Mithril dragons, I did once make up a similar scene using a different Mithril figure (before Turin was released I think), but the dragon was by someone else, and as I don’t like to mix manufacturers I took it apart to rebuild, but have never done so yet.

Hi David, thanx for your compliment. I agree to you not mixing manufactures. I have tried it several times but come always to the conclusion to remove the “foreign” stuff. And yes, the foto is miserable-sorry. I will do it that weekend with the better camera of my wife (she alway have the better thing . . . ;) )- if you want-I myself do want to have better pics as well because I like that scene also. Being modest ! That is serious speaking- not every scene becomes a quality that is to my satisfaction. Mostly NOT :/ I think you will agree to that.
So keep on working, David and have a look that weekend . . . :P

i use four levels of “rares for my database, two of which is of my own…. Zoetrop only uses rarity levels 3 and 4 (which is transposed into rare or very rare in my database) but for such case as M16 i created the “extremly rare” level… there are maybe Five or Six extremly rare figurines (maybe M7 and M10), M247 is “only” very rare, not extremly indeed , and even less are “Unfindable” (that’s for prototypes, early christmas figurines etc…)

Very nice Christoph and a very good use of Vengence of Smaug. That one won’t fall over. :D

If one wants a purely speculative explanation here’s a try! The reason for rarity is two fold, with the first having to do with the molding process. This figure is “deeper” than most, if not all, Mithril which are spin molded and largely made within somewhat planer constraints (having details such as limbs, weapons, and so forth, molding separately.). I can imagine that removing it from the mold may have presented difficulty which limited its final production numbers. The other reason is cross-over appeal. The inherent ‘coolness’ of this figure prompted many non fans of Mithril to snap up the remaining copies. I can remember the days just after the release of this figure. Others from this series were easier to find (if one can say such a thing about Mithril!), and usually, this figure was not to be found. Again, pure guesswork here;)

It all depends on what metal grade you are willing to accept……. 😆 😆
