So I found this listing on Ebay:
By the way, that cave troll w/morningstar looks mighty fine..
But I’m curious, the seller says: “The ‘original’ Mithril Miniatures went ‘out-of-business’ ,1996.”
Is this a tactic to upsell the rarity of the item, or did Mithril actually go out of business or restructure in some way back in 1996?

April 5, 2009 at 8:52 pm #4815No, something DID happen in 1996 (note the gap between the Rangers of Ithilian and Battle of Mirkwood M-series). I suspect Mithril just went dormant until the end of the 1990s.
It’s a tempting model though…
April 5, 2009 at 10:04 pm #4817Huoommmm …wrong, Master Gavin… the question was about M84 … huoomm … so that one must have been released in the early 90s as it was part of the ‘Army of the Witch-King’ … rhuoomm … and his “brother in arms”(M49) use to swing some kind of a butcher’s knife … rhuoomm … here records are a bit confusing as I remember a “Troll with morning star/mace” which obviously is that M48, and the “Troll with axe” (M49) … huoomm … it’s more than a cleaver than an axe …. huoomm…. as far as I know … hommmmm
April 5, 2009 at 10:13 pm #4819you mean this one, Master Tree ?! As far as I know the correct title IS Troll with cleaver . . .

By the way, this is a absolutely magnificent Troll, but- that cleaver . . . What is wrong with that cleaver . . . It needs a urgent conversion
April 5, 2009 at 10:16 pm #4820. . .and oh, yes Master OA, there is a nice cheap Orc berserker too ( m045 ) from the same host. BY IT NOW !!!! It is the cheapest I have ever saw . . .
April 5, 2009 at 10:25 pm #4821OA, you must get that troll! I have one and it is absolutely marvelous!
April 5, 2009 at 10:30 pm #4822Oh, I got this M47 from the same seller last night!

April 5, 2009 at 10:38 pm #4824Here is a listing of an M49. I have this one too and it is so cool!
April 5, 2009 at 10:43 pm #4825Theo – Coincidentally, there’s also an auction for the Troll w/Cleaver.
http://cgi.ebay.com/OOP-painted-LOTR-Mithril-Cleaver-Troll-Warhammer-LOTR_W0QQitemZ270369381341QQihZ017QQcategoryZ44011QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemRita – I don’t see the orc berserker when I searched under “Mithril.” I even went to the same seller’s store and looked through everything. Do you have a link? Thanks. (I really liked the one you converted and painted – and I want one too!)
JD – I’m seriously considering the troll..
Thanks all.
April 5, 2009 at 10:44 pm #4826oops, sorry – I must have hit “Submit” after JD sent the same link
April 5, 2009 at 10:46 pm #4827His cleaver looks like a straight razor from the old-fashioned barber shops.. perhaps he needs a shave
April 5, 2009 at 11:00 pm #4828Let me tell you pictures do not do these minis justice. Once you have them in hand, you will totally be very pleased!
April 5, 2009 at 11:16 pm #4829I always check ebay in other countries to see what minis they might have and here are a few old ones from France.
Ask the seller if he or she will ship to the United States. I have found really good deals.
April 6, 2009 at 9:07 am #4838. . . lots of traffic here in the meantime . . .
Master OA, I suppose the Orc berserk is gone. I saw it last friday!
Well I have to say the price was, I remember, something about 6 Dollars. That´s amazing cheap for that figure.
And there was the “buy it now” button also. I have to say further, that the prices from that”miniaturehobby” are quiet fair. Look for the halftrolls . . .
I agree to Jason: BY THAT TROLL. The m048 and the m049 are THE Trolls !
AND: congrats for that m047. A very nice orc-figure- like all the ones from that Angmar-serie . . .
There is a nice detail on his back, look:[imgz url=http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/32_0471.jpg]http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/thumbs/32_0471.jpg[/imgz]
April 8, 2009 at 3:03 am #4860OA, here is a Tom Bombadil for sale:

April 8, 2009 at 1:34 pm #4866I didn’t get the Troll w/Morningstar..
I was being admittedly conservative. Mine was the $35 bid (not sure what that is in Euros). Someone ended up getting it for $36..
Well, no need for that figure right away – I’ll be patient and paint my Hobbit set (working on Bard first).
George
April 8, 2009 at 2:02 pm #4867$ 36.- for 50 grams of pewter? I buy my casting metal a lot cheaper.
April 8, 2009 at 6:46 pm #4871Nah, what I was saying Master Tree that the statement “Mithil went out of business in 1996” seems to be founded on a common, if justified misconception.
