Hi
I am not very fond of the new release Earendur.
Is Numenorean kings and descendant wear beard? Elvish blood trait is no or very short beard!!
Regarding the armor, too simple for a king. Half plate was more the standard. This Arnor king look like a dunlending chieftain

I do not know of any quote from Tolkien that even mentions plate armour. In contrast, he stresses chain as the armour of choice even of the great hearoes and kings of the Númenóreans and Eldar (when he mentions them at all).
This supposed existence of plate armour – and its generous use in Middle-earth miniatures (not only Mithril) is one of the things that annoys me the most. IIRC MERP made generous use of it as well – also without any supporting evidence.Concerning the beard you’re absolutely right. The few info we have points to the absence of beards in men with elvish ancestry.
Cheers
ThomasNovember 8, 2013 at 8:57 pm #29034I like the helm he is wearing.
November 8, 2013 at 9:01 pm #29035Descendant of Numenorean wears at least Half Plates if to be consistent with the Mithril range.

It may be consistent with the Mithril range, but in this point the Mithril range is not consistent with Tolkien’s Middle-earth at all. For me, the former is much less relevant than the latter. But that’s a very old issue and very unlikely to get fixed.
Or might this figure be the beginning of this fix?
Cheers

Also, the dagger seems little big.Tolwen wrote:Concerning the beard you’re absolutely right. The few info we have points to the absence of beards in men with elvish ancestry.About beard, well, aragorn also has beard & elvish ancestry doesn’t he ?

In the movie yes – there he has a beard, but IMO the movie alone is no authority at all (IMHO). Is there a passage in the books where he is described as bearded?
Cheers
TolwenNovember 9, 2013 at 10:54 am #29039You are damned right Master Tolwen. Images from the movie have corrupted my memory.
November 9, 2013 at 11:50 am #29043With or without beard…. with or without armor, another helmet or something else… Earendur last king of Arnor I see it in my imagination like a Earendur last king of Arnor…. and it is much better than the old lady with chickens ! :D:D
November 9, 2013 at 3:44 pm #29046I just want to say that I absolutely share Master Tolwen’s point of view of both matters (armour and beards). Though it’s futile to discuss about that Mithril-plate-armour, I think it’s right to criticize it whenever it appears again.
Then I also share your opinion about chicken, Master Thingol.
November 9, 2013 at 6:34 pm #29050Funny how chicken can come back in every talks these days.
November 9, 2013 at 7:21 pm #29052Maybe Earendur last king of Arnor’s also fed the chickens at the height of historical glory :lol:
November 10, 2013 at 11:17 am #29060I have no objection to Mithrils with a bit of ‘plate’ such as a cuirass, but it is the full plate that I really dislike! To me, it is images of mail-clad, Elves, knights and warriors that inspire my images of Tolkien’s world.
The Lady feeding chickens . Well she has stirred ‘the feed’ on the forum hasn’t she .
My own view would have been the she would have been a better release as a part of a series such as some that have been suggested but have fallen on deaf-ears at Mithril.
But that said, I suspect that Mr Tubb will come up with an interesting study of a character – she could be having a natter with Bogatung (spelling?) perhaps . Not the most popular choice maybe, but at least someone has got their ‘name on the board’, and chicken in the basket with Master Samwise’s chipped ‘Taters will make a nice bar-snack in the Pony 😆
