…. magic potion for me is in this moment free night and possibilities to sleep till 10,00 minimum because of I’m still in holiday… already 10 days… at home without any vacation trip ( saving money period )
we will soon see the results of a special commission to determine the taste in coloring… I guess that we mustn’t left any pictures here before we sending them to Michael…. or before the competition ends…
January 3, 2011 at 7:50 pm #14352It’s rather odd to be wandering around at Home Depot and wonder to oneself “how would Elrond decorate?”.
It’s finally here, but I missed the post today, so I have to wait till tomorrow for delivery.
I do hope the contest is extended a bit…January 3, 2011 at 8:58 pm #14353so far I have painted the base… but I am slower than anybody when it comes to painting, still I really like this base
it is black marble with shades of dark grey, and the design on the floor is gold thinned… the whole thing is varnished using bight varnish to give the impression of polished black marble… all in all it is exactly how I have imagined it (in orthanc)… will send u pics
January 3, 2011 at 10:11 pm #14354I definitely will not take part in this competition. Did I tell you before? I don’t know. I don’t even find that bit of time to take some pics of some conversions and a curiosity I want to place somewhere around here.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing all the results of your interpretations of that Council-vignette. Keep on everybody.January 3, 2011 at 11:52 pm #14355So my friend from Monpellier, you have take your choice. And you take the marble floor.
I am not quiete sure still. Though I made the decision not using the marble optic . . .
Though your description sounds very expectently.January 4, 2011 at 9:10 am #14358I managed to paint the base floor yesterday’s night ! I went to bed at 3 o’clock though….
Back in the contest now!:cool:I chose also marble floor, but made 4 different kinds to hilights the rosace.
It just looks fantastic to me, which is already quite surprising as it was the first time I success in marble painting

LetΒ΄s have a strong cup of coffee. I need it also . . .
January 4, 2011 at 10:32 am #14363Well Master Archer, I was back in the Pony after I drunk 2 coffee at the office at 7:30 this morning.
I think tonight, it will be hard to paint without falling on the bed.January 4, 2011 at 3:23 pm #14371Micheal just sent me some good news !
“We will delay deadline until middle of Feb.”:lol:
Now, Mistress Wendy, Master Gildor, Master elroi and Master Estel and myself can participate!
:rolleyes:January 4, 2011 at 4:50 pm #14374oh well that indeed changes my priorities… I had given up painting or taking time for that, now I MAY be able to make some progress though I am not a very skilled painter
January 4, 2011 at 5:07 pm #14375my vignette will gather cobweb and dust until February…. it’s finished last night
January 4, 2011 at 10:52 pm #14377I remember that you also were that surprisingly fast with your MX-UP, Master Thingol. Respect.
January 4, 2011 at 11:40 pm #14378I just have finished the base . . . π
Time to overthink the base . . .
January 6, 2011 at 4:33 pm #14379I have decided to paint some maps on the MB560 table.
Could any of our professionnal painters provide some clues on how to paint such small details ?
What kind of tool would you use ?January 6, 2011 at 4:40 pm #14380first I would draw the map, for that I would make a miniature of an existing map, print it and use it to draw the border with a very thin pen on the metal surface … this way you have the drawing…
then with the drawing done you can use hues to give life to the maps and use thin pencils to make some runes or in this case I would use microscopic thin rotring ink pens
January 6, 2011 at 4:41 pm #14381I will certainly also paint some maps. I can only give the advice to use a very thin brush. Without having a concrete idea . . .
January 6, 2011 at 5:33 pm #14387I tried to do something like that with the writings in the book on Balin’s tomb (M285) and Elrond’s opened book (LR37), for example. After colouring the pages I used a special pencil of 0.3 mm size. That worked well. The according “Rotring” ink pen Gildor referred to might also work well, but it is far more expensive
January 6, 2011 at 5:43 pm #14389I was also use special pencil to write some details on maps…”Rotring ink” is one of the best choices ( I have few of them.. I use them for drawing lines on the hulls at the scale model aircraft – 1/48 ) or just regular pencil with HB mark ( this means darker shade )… also after painting… of course !
I was paint maps with nearly 70 percent of the dilute colors… and I’m happy with result…
I saw today in newsletter that competition is officially moved on mid of february. I will nov improve some details
January 6, 2011 at 5:56 pm #14390A rotring isograph ink-pencil 1 Point 3 . . . I remember the times when I was a student . . . no computer around . . .
Time to re-activate these dry-ink-pencils . . .
A good hint, Gildor,Theobald and Fastest painter ever . . .BUT: I prefer my two-hair-brush. It is a very old one and there are only two hairs left . . .
January 6, 2011 at 8:00 pm #14394It’s been 20 years since I haven’t used a rotring. No computer too π
It must be somewhere in the attic. -
