anyway, I think those “things” are orcs with “melted” upper body” and some caudal appendices
It was “Grond” – Mark Brandenburg, for sure… I remember rounds of voting and fighting around reason: ….. why anyone should do something like that and later bought for 30 euros price of “the factory”
January 26, 2012 at 7:51 am #22847…. and both figures are outstanding! As usual ! Now I’m going to push my hand in cookie jar and take some coins….
January 26, 2012 at 8:37 am #22850I can confirm that the suggestion was from Grond. Cheched in Mithril Gold Fellowship Vote Archives, feb/2011 suggestions:

The Nameless ThingThe custodian of the Black Pit gazes upward at the descending ball of fire (the Balrog). The unnatural flames illuminate the otherwise pitch-dark cavern. The ancient one watches curiously, as a second source of light soon follows. Little does it know that an epic battle is about to ensue…or perhaps it has witnessed the age old struggle before?
I’ve heard the argument against, and I respectfully disagree. With a plethora of options and very few restrictions, Chris will undoubtedly create something truly wonderful to behold! Let’s give the Nameless Thing another shot!
Thanks to Michael, I have added another drawing (a head study this time) of the Nameless Thing to the gallery:
January 26, 2012 at 3:33 pm #22852hah! mystery solved!
Delightful result, I must say, though!

Sand? In the roots of the mountain? Mud?! Interesting question . . . maybe pale?
January 27, 2012 at 10:18 am #22857they are from the depths of earth, living among balrogs? or rather, balrogs living among them…
maybe their skin texture should be a little more elaborated… with dark color, striken with veins of pale or flashy color…. fluo greenish or bluish (like abyssal mushroom) or lava red
or things like that… indeed they could also be albinos, like some abyssal fish, explaining the lack of pigmentation due to the lack of light…I think that having them vein striken with “abyssal” color themes would be fitting…
January 27, 2012 at 12:34 pm #22861I like your suggestion, gildor… abyssal color will be a nice option for these two.
January 28, 2012 at 12:32 am #22879So, you mean pale?
It doesn´t matter that this one goes out to master Gildor!
PS: sometimes I have qualified doubts that members read other posts . . .
January 28, 2012 at 9:42 am #22881“pale” is the correct word, methinks. pale as a maggot with red “eyes” …
January 28, 2012 at 10:45 am #22882… oops … I forgot … a challenge could be to paint a slight transition from pale (including those light-bluish veins) to those hard scales at the back of the spine, which, of course, turns into turns of grey, which might be very hard to being achieved …
anyway, I like the pose and mimic-expression of the figures as they clearly reveil The Man’s humour … that’s why I like them.I just wanted to find a compromise here, adding my own ideas and thoughts. I think it’s best to buy more than one set to paint differently and find out what comes closest to “nameless things”. I can imagine adding them to my Balrog-scene and they will be perfect in size … imagine … remember? ..

January 28, 2012 at 3:40 pm #22885I spent a lot of time remembering where I have seen these “nameless thingS”, better saying
on which/whom those figures remind me.
I found down in the depths of my figure-archive an old Ral Partha miniature . . .[imgz url=http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/32_thing1374.jpg]http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/thumbs/32_thing1374.jpg[/imgz]
I thing I will leave this PM4 . . .
Oh, Master Tree, I comment on your work at the “right” place . . .
January 28, 2012 at 4:41 pm #22887Pale colour for me, and I wonder if they would have need for eyes, I shall decide when I get ’em
January 28, 2012 at 5:39 pm #22888usually “deep” creatures have blind eyes or no eyes at all as this organ is not used nor necessary in total darkness… :

January 28, 2012 at 7:02 pm #22891very interesting indeed, as I never was fond of Ral Partha figures … anyway,I have decided to extend my diorama … I did not break all them left slates I still keep from Brittany for about 25 years this late afternoon … alas … I’ll let you see the final result by the Ent of this year …
February 1, 2012 at 12:28 am #22966Know what else would be a great idea?
An army of half orcs. And/or Black Sword series style Orcs/Goblins.
The half-orcs especially are Mr. Tubb’s really iconic contribution to the Middle-earth visual canon. His half orcs are distinctive and characterful. Give them different shield designs and you’d have something rather lovely.
February 1, 2012 at 3:33 am #22967Well of course I agree with Gavin and I like his idea!
February 1, 2012 at 8:02 am #22968Here in PM4 for 8 GBP… and on PD web site is 15 GBP ?!?!?
