the main principle of my idea is having the M releases released on the GF program, outside the regular distribution/retail process…
this may be elitist but since Mithril does not want to deal with retailers at all at the moment (marketing distribution, advertising etc) that’s already what they do… and secondly, having them released inside the GF allows for “controlled” number of releases and no stocks… because you only produce for , at best “number of GF members + 10%”
but I don’t think it could be possible to have more than ONE range (being 10 figurines) per year… besides having TWO ranges of Five figurines may seem a good idea, but not really in terms of productions, it costs less to have spin moulds for ten… than two spin moulds of five…. besides, historically, “range themes” in the mithril ranges have always been more or less 10 figurines, (sometimes split into two releases dates such as MERP or Mirkwood but that’s all)
I’m trying to promote the reduction of production costs to mithril… as best as possible…
figurines from a RANGE, inthe GF should NEVER go above 15€ each… and that’s already a high price…May 25, 2011 at 9:16 pm #17620I did understand, Gildor. – Though all that does not surprise me at all, as you might remember.
I just wonder if all of that should be broadcasted here in public …May 25, 2011 at 9:51 pm #17622Well, this is not a “public” space, you have to be logged in for reading.
Beside, there is nothing new what already has been discussed several times . . .
Finally: why not?!Post scriptum: always welcomed to be informed about matters behind the scenes instead of the current ebay status . . .
May 25, 2011 at 9:57 pm #17623yes turambar is right, i posted in angrenost… on purpose… this is limited to members… only
besides i gave info from mithril now because Michael told me I could relay this info so that people would feel comfortedMay 26, 2011 at 1:31 am #17625Yes, it has been some time now that almost all Mithril sales are over the internet. I haven’t seen a Mithril figure in a store for over five years, and we used to have a number of hobby stores around Minneapolis. I think two now survive in a population over one million people (including suburbs). In Europe I hear from friends that it is the same.
I agree Master Elf that any regular M release should be as part of the GF–we submit the ideas and vote on them. And to that point we give up a month or two a year of MS releases. I would love 10 figures at a time, but wonder if five are easier to sell. Unlike MS figures, which are priced at a premium, these regular release (either as individuals, or sold entirely in a set (MB) at a reasonable price–this is more to PA’s liking) should be available to anyone who would buy them.
This way we keep the production to figures that our core group will buy, but also keep the GF special with MS figures for the members only (yes, at slightly higher prices due to exclusivity).
I think this is what was meant to happen in the begining.
I will be happy for anything that gives us regular releases once or twice a year, at the least.
June 3, 2011 at 4:36 pm #17763I finally got an answer from Lars… saying he had overlooked my mail because it had ended automatically in … his junk mail.. so he apologized sincerely and said he would formulate an answer to all my suggestions early next week
on a side note I submitted what I thought would be an EPIC duel for the month of june and I hope it’ll get some support…. Gollum vs. Frodo on the cracks of doom has been submitted many times already, and since it is a duel month this is a perfect time for it
June 10, 2011 at 7:32 pm #17878i’d like to say my patience has paid gentlemen…
Chris has sent me two huge mails today, and Lars has agreed to many of my suggestions, I am currently reading the details here but it seems things will soon MOVE at last!!! all for the good!
I’ll keep you informed asapJune 10, 2011 at 8:31 pm #17879It sounds great!
June 10, 2011 at 8:37 pm #17880Indeed ! I hope…. that many figures will soon arrive in our glass cabinets….
June 10, 2011 at 10:26 pm #17882That sounds really good, Gildor. And I hope it will help mithril. And ourselves, being collectors of magnificent miniatures . . .
June 10, 2011 at 10:45 pm #17884so I am waiting for confirmation but it seems Chris and myself (Chris&Chris ) found a way , and Lars accepted, to make Mithril live again and release “series”… ranges… of regulars at least twice a year (5+5) and if the plan is successfull even more than that!
big plans ahead! project is to be approved soon very soon… because next regular “set” is scheduled to be released in… September! (this year!)
it will be a mix of votes from the GF members (based on the vote we have done here for the Grey Company for example) and an idea of pre-orders before the beginning of production…. (I heard some other companies and sculptors were doing the same, taking preorders while the figurines were still in production and release it only when preorders were ok and enough to launch castings…
Based on the number of preorders…. and the success of this strategy, the more preorders… the more regular releases per years
(details remains to be discussed… Chris asked that I be the manager of this project of votes for the sets on the official boards (though I doubt Michael will accept to share this charge…)
June 11, 2011 at 7:07 am #17887I see many interesting suggestions are close to be accepted… but one of my questions is: which is this “next regular set scheduled to be released in September… is this HD 2 or what…. do you already know !?!?!?!
June 11, 2011 at 7:14 am #17889Huoooommmm … I keep my fingers crossed, Master Gildor … and … thank you very much
June 11, 2011 at 9:46 am #17890So if it IS the HD 2, they can schedule it immediately.
Though, good news and definetly the right way into the right direction.
June 11, 2011 at 10:06 am #17891actually that was my last evening question to Chris… this new “proposal/project etc” did not mention helm’s deep 2 or 3 at all but talking from a brand new start… those released in september would be those voted for as soon as this project is accepted and put into motion…
But I’ll try to get the answers as it was, as I said one of my first questions…
June 11, 2011 at 10:23 am #17892Interesting developments “To be (HD2), or not to be (HD2)? That is the question”
June 11, 2011 at 11:50 am #17895Lines are moving again, great to read such info here !
June 11, 2011 at 12:41 pm #178961 .- Gildor Thank you for your efforts. You also have my support
2 .- I hope Mithril know assess the “jewel” that has in its hands: to create figures from the world of Tolkien. I’m sure it can be big business if properly managed it.June 11, 2011 at 5:06 pm #17897Interesting.
Time to get saving for me, methinks!
June 11, 2011 at 6:13 pm #17899Gentlemen (and Gentlewomen), I can also confirm what our dear Master Elf has said: that Mithril will move forward with M series production, hopefully in September.
The following is part of an email I recieved from Chris on Friday 6-10:
“With regard to Mithril, Lars has agreed to something like your suggestion of some time back concerning the staggered release of an M series to be done in 2 batches of 5 figures. We are working out the details right now and Christophe G has also made some suggestions which will make it more of a GF project but I think it will be viable . i will keep you posted. Maybe when I have drawn up more of the details tomorrow I will email them to you to get your opinions on the idea. I want to get it going as soon as possible so as not to lose the momentum at the factory, and hopefully should be able to release the first batch of figures around September.”
So the idea (which Chris gave me permission to share, and I did some time ago) is to have 5 figure box sets (MB) that we can vote on. In this way Mithril knows that they are producing figures with high member demand, and that they will sell as a group so that the company isn’t stuck with a large inventory of a few less popular figures. As you can read from Chris’ words, each M series would consist of two of these 5 figure sets.
So Master Elf, you can see that I never did give up hope for regular releases, I am just private (usually) about my attempts to help bring us more “regular” releases.
