I shall watch the 3D 48fps version tomorrow. It will be a new experience for me so I wonder if there is much difference with the standard 2D 24fps version…
December 13, 2012 at 4:40 pm #26390I saw the movie yesterday afternoon with my family, and we loved it.
As Milo, I find that 3D adds nothing more to the film, the image quality is more than sufficient
We spent a great time , pity we should wait a year before seeing the followingDecember 13, 2012 at 4:52 pm #26391I will be seeing this movie tonight! Can’t wait!
December 14, 2012 at 7:58 am #26394My Wife and I will see the first Hobbit movie today at a dinner theatre. We can eat first and then bring our scrumpy into the cinema (and Nob will be there, refilling mugs)–alas, I will have to go out into the cold Minnesota weather if I want a puff off of my pipe!
24x or 48x, I doubt I’ll notice much difference. If I do I’ll post here.
December 15, 2012 at 12:13 am #26402I just saw the movie. I enjoyed it despite the departure from the book.
December 15, 2012 at 3:07 am #26403This movie was great! I didn’t want it to end! The riddles in the dark scene was excellent.
December 15, 2012 at 10:09 am #26405Well, I saw it too.
In general terms: I liked it.
PJ also allows some small Ā“licenses` not greatly alter the fundamental and the landscapes and scenery are simply: WONDERFUL. š
Indeed, the soundtrack Ā“fits` well. I didnĀ“t notice Ā“repetitive`…
This you could buy in my cinema. Gollum’s figure was given away, as a gift

it ‘s hoped that for the second film, French’s cinemas do the same as the Spanish’s cinemaDecember 15, 2012 at 6:05 pm #26409well I’m back from the movie myself… I must admit 3D does not add much at all… really not necessary…Also, I wish I could have watched it in english (subtitled) instead of fully french translated… the songs would be far better
as a purist I could say some freedom was taken… as always and I could be very disapointed by them but I am not at all because those freedom re not a lot intrusive for the general background of the “tolkien universe” and it helps the “non-purist” to understand things better rather than requiring other events… other books that will not be adapted to cinema anyways! so those liberties are a good thing for an ADAPTATION !
(nothing like the Arwen instead of Glorfindel, for example…)
I personnally love the scene in Dol Guldur (shhhh, no spoil) and the report at the White Council… even if in this last case… well… some BIG liberties were taken… but i won’t say more
December 16, 2012 at 10:55 pm #26422Saw the movie today, and overall I give it a thumbs up, I enjoyed what I saw if not all that was ‘added’, but from the familiar music to the opening scenes I had ‘goose-bumps’ on my arms – back in Middle Earth once more.
I personally think Martin Freeman steals some of the opening scenes as a bewidered Bilbo Baggins.
Hard not to mention some scenes as I would hate to spoil it for anyone yet to see the movie.
3D, was it?, didn’t cut it for me as such, but I didn’t find the glasses as bad as I thought and I’m not sure if the movie was shown at 48 FPS, if it was, then I can’t see what all the (anti 48 FPS) fuss is about.
No favourite bits as such, but I did like the three trolls scene , and the final scene was a nice ‘look what’s waiting for you’ touch.
Will try and get to see it again before christmas š
December 16, 2012 at 11:08 pm #26424will try to see it too again next week in english this time…. the french translation for the dwarf song at the beginning is a total mess…
December 18, 2012 at 1:23 pm #26440True, in Spanish is the same. The translation is not very accurate …..
You canĀ“t compare to this ….December 18, 2012 at 2:58 pm #26449I saw it last weekend, and I have to say that IĀ“m very pleased with the result.
Some good points:
– Good adaptation, with no major liberties
– The (amazing) beggining: Peter Jackson knows how to catch the attention of every fan since the very first minute.
– The best moment: the riddles in the dark, of course (please, give Gollum/Serkis an Oscar, seriously )
– Martin Freeman >>>> Elijah wood
– The whole movie is an amazing visual showSome not-so-good points:
– I know that the hobbit is more childish than the LOTR, but a few scenes are a bit “cartoon”
– The 3D does not contributes much to the film
– Viggo Mortensen>>>>Richard Armitage
– I personally prefer more “flesh and bone” orcs and goblins instead of so much CGICanĀ“t wait to watch it again, and of course, the english version too.
December 27, 2012 at 8:39 pm #26587I just came back from the theater and a bit disappointed. The story is like the book, that is great but the look of the movie is like a cartoon movie. Or more specific, it looks like a computer game, with not allways the characters in the background. Sometimes it seems that they are floating…
Anyway, my mayor dissapointment comes from my two favourite characters of the book: Ori and Radagast. They look like dumb and dumber.
But I had a really good time!!!
December 28, 2012 at 9:28 am #26588Seen it yesterday night.
Not so wonderfull as LOTR but still a pleasant moment if you are not a Tolkien devotee.
The worst storyline was Radagast venue to warn Gandalf about the Necromancer. Think how he crossed the misty mountains so easily anf swiftly from Mirkwood to rhudaur?December 29, 2012 at 5:24 pm #26596yes that’s what I told myself… he’s DAMN fast to rush from Rhosgobel down to almost Rivendell!!! Those rabbits may be fast but well, how did he pass the misty mountains??
as for his venture and experience in dol guldur, I liked it though it is quite non canonical even though… there is no proof it could not have happened too… (except for the meeting of course)
December 30, 2012 at 12:02 am #26605Don’t forget, as he [Radagast] says, “These are Rhosgobel Rabbits!!!!!”), so such a fast journey is no problem for these rodents
January 9, 2013 at 9:24 am #26698Finally got around to seing the movie yesterday. It inevitably takes outrageous liberties with the story, but I enjoyed every moment of it! Great fun, from beginning to end, and I look forward to Part 2 immensely. In the meantime I shall doubtless go and see this movie at least once more when I can find the time.
The only downside was that I unexpectedly found I’m one of the one-third of the population who can’t cope with 3D. I had no problem when I was watching the film, but as soon as I stepped out of the cinema I was dizzy and nauseous, and had to go to bed whern I got home! Mind you, I suffer from acute motion-sickness, so maybe that was a factor.
The 48 frames a second, however, was very impressive indeed ā at least, it was to me, though I know a lot of criticism has been levelled at it. I have to admit nevertheless that it seemed to work better at some points in the film than at others – almost as if it hadn’t been used all the time, which it surely must have been. Some scenes were crystal clear – “clear as Kheled-zaram”, as you might say, and as crisp as real life – while others seemed indistinguishable from standard 24 fps. I wonder why?
Anyway, a great movie. Not real Tolkien, but real fun!
January 10, 2013 at 8:53 am #26710I’ve also seen the movie a few days before (100 km away from home so this was a on day excursion). It was really great. In the whole story protrudes only albino Azog, but it’s just a great film entertainment. Certainly the best scene for me is the last one, the one with the eagles. Watching in 3D HDR 48 frames in seccond… I was not tired it all. Rather it was great. Next week, moviel comes in my city, but we only have 2D digital cinema. Anyway ! I have already booked a ticket ….
January 10, 2013 at 7:09 pm #26720Three nominations for Oscars…….
