Managed to watch about 3/4’s of the extended DOS this evening before the wine kicked in .
I won’t elaborate as it is better for folk to watch and make their own judgements, but I was happier to see the Beorn scene ‘fleshed’ out to be a lot closer to the book, just in a different order .
I will replay the last parts again to see what I missed .
I’m still not sure how Gandalf recovers Glamdring from the encounter at Dol Guldur, but hey….!
I will be off to see Luke Evans aka Bard tomorrow night to see him as Vlad Dracula.
Trolls and chariots!!!!! Mmmnnn! Let’s hope BotFA doesn’t deviate too far, but……..!
November 6, 2014 at 7:18 pm #31417November 6, 2014 at 7:40 pm #31419It may bear little similarity to the book, but – with all due respect to purists – it looks like a smegging awesome climax to the Hobbit movie trilogy!
November 7, 2014 at 11:14 am #31420Well- after evaluating all the screenshots I made last night I found an interesting set:

Is that Angmar?
November 7, 2014 at 11:29 am #31421… or rather the Mount Gundabad ?
Angmar was deserted after the Fall of the witch king. And the orcs of the battle of the five armies came from ” northern lands ” ….. In MERP modules also commented that the orcs who fought in the battle of the five armies came from Mount Gundabab and it was very decimated after the battle was not so much influence in the battles of LOTR ……..
Maybe, PJ may have been influenced by this ……..
November 7, 2014 at 2:55 pm #31424Yeah, I was wondering what that big red tower thing was. Of course my MERP sodden heart keeps imagining it as the tower at the source of the cursed river in Mirkwood…
November 7, 2014 at 3:31 pm #31426There is a tower at the source of the cursed river in Mirkwood . . . ?????
November 7, 2014 at 4:22 pm #31429In MERP. It’s called Sarn Gorwing. It’s a dark site, run by some evil character.

Shows up in the Wizards card game.
November 7, 2014 at 11:45 pm #31434Ahh- an interesting place indeed. I like the illustration, very athmospheric.
Though I doubt it was that place showed in the movie. There are no trees around . . .
Let´s wait and see what is Master P.J.´s intention here . . .
Anyway- thanks for the link, Gavin.November 8, 2014 at 12:27 pm #31437First thirty seconds of each song from the soundtrack “The Hobbit: The battle of the Five Armies” (click on the arrow)
Excellent Howard Shore! …. as usual………

… I see that in these films will be a lot of surprises … I will buy soon extended edition of second Hobbit movie…
November 9, 2014 at 11:21 pm #31444That “Special Edition” will be present No 1 under the Christmas Tree!!!!!!
And because they had show nearly nothing- there is no “fire” for movie part three. And I will look it AFTER Christmas.
So to say: after watching SE. So you are informed, fellows.November 10, 2014 at 8:01 am #31447Just watched the extended edition of Desolation of Smaug, and have to say that it’s much better than the shorter cinema version, and it’s nice to see aspects of the original book reintroduced.
November 10, 2014 at 9:03 am #31449oh btw in the extended version of the desolation of Smaug, (not received yet… but saw some excerpts) some very important scenes that were missing are now in the movie : such as the dwarves introduction to Beorn… which is one of the big moments of the book, well, it seems it was only missing in the short version..
why such a choice… I wonder…. it’s one of the best parts of the book and PJ judges it not worthy enough for the “regular” movie? oO
November 10, 2014 at 9:26 am #31451… such as the scene, where Gandalf is meeting Thrain in Dol Guldur. Part of the very first trailer, sawn 2years ago! (saw it on you tube).
November 10, 2014 at 9:44 am #31452…Such things are what I was referring to when I said “aspects of the original book reintroduced”, but unlike you fellows I didn’t want to spoil the surprise for people who haven’t seen it yet!
November 10, 2014 at 2:56 pm #31455I sincerely hope that there will be as many links to the “The lords of the rings” book in this and in the next movie….
November 10, 2014 at 3:22 pm #31456well we all know what happens in the book , and I did not want to describe how it is rendered in the movie, I’m sorry if I spoiled you in any way
November 10, 2014 at 10:53 pm #31463..no matter at all, Master Elf. I want to be spoiled. That´s the reaon why I enter this room . . .
To hear and to see news about “The Hobbit Movie”.November 11, 2014 at 2:13 pm #31466Yeah, I am pretty impressed at how deeply weird many of the decisions made have been (and will be). A lot of the “restraint” and visual creativity shown in the Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers has gone out the window. PJ likes his big over the top scenes. It was budget, not taste, restraining him.
The guy has an amazing cast, but they seem sort of drowned out by the visual effects. I have some hope that the “human” story will play a bigger role in the final movie, but I don’t have that much hope.
