well the crossing between Radagast and some kind of Santa Claus or a totally extravagent Tom Bombadil worries me… as well as Galadriel with Gandalf at Rivendell (which though strange could fit the story in the back-office events of the White Council)

besides that and the fact most of the dwarves look like bearded elves and not dwarves… it seems most of the video would be rather fitting… maybe the goblin king is oversized but that’s not really a big problem. and the stone giants… being giants of stone… why not…

I notice though that , THOUGH we have seen many footage from the second movie (and maybe the third one as well) (dwarves in barrels mostly) we have not seen a SINGLE picture of Smaug nor of the Necromancer… maybe because Smaug has not been created at all yet (it is completly digital so it will be created by computers for the second movie I assume…)

(We know for sure that Gandalf saw/felt the Necromancer in Dol Guldur, or glimpsed at him, as in the books he mentions he has mistaken him for a Nazgul at first when he chase him away… that means he saw him…) and we also know the Necromancer has voice acting (the same actor as Smaug if I remember correctly : Benedict Cumberbatch )

I’m sure that all those characters in movie dynamic special effects scenes will look much better than those static characters…

Well, J.R.R.Tolkien wrote about the White Council in his books. In fact, There are references in LOTR, as in The Hobbit, as in Appendices … Perhaps the story development is missing, but surely his son, Christopher, will find a revelation in the lost papers (that will sell at a reasonable price in a new book…..)

By the way, the battle between Gandalf and the Balrog is also described in detail in “The Two Towers”:The White Knight

well the battle between Gandalf and the Balrog is partly described, with the stairs to Zirak Zigil and when the Balrog died and Gandalf lost his corporeal form to be reincarnated as Gandalf the White. (true fana)

but I have to disagree with the sarcasm about Christopher Tolkien not publishing material he would not have found “yet” and make money out of it.
Having been myself in contact with the Tolkien family (not Christopher himself though)… all of it is not about money, but they really can’t stand the wrongs and transformations and freedoms taken by those who simply owned licences to derivated products, to change the litterary and background/ history works of JRRT… the way they did.

Extending the world outside of its bonds when there are holes in the background and lore is something that Tolkien himself accepted and quoted as “Other Minds”… and is fair and acceptabel

“ADAPTING” the known background and lore so that it fits the needs of the derivated product (be it a movie, toys, or anything) is not something the Tolkien Estate can tolerate and I understand them though I won’t fight or support them

I like the Tolkien movies by PJ but I like them as … movies and movie fan… if I had to look at those films with my “tolkien fan only” eyes I would spit at them… but I can be tolerant because I love action and fantastic movies ALSO

when it comes to other derivated products BESIDE the movies, then I do not tolerate them anymore because they are “derivated products” OF A “derivated product” … According to me there should not be “depth levels” of derivations for Tolkien. Every derivated product should derivate from the books and only the books… not from something that is already derivated from the books…

Understand me, Master Gildor. The “sarcasm” is intended for the publication of collections at exorbitant prices, as the History of Middle-earth (twelve books?, in spanish there are thirteen books), which has not provided material “contrast” or “deep”. Sometimes are simple terse “notes” and gives me the feeling that it is trying to “extend something that can not be extended beyond”
Moreover, thanks to Christopher, we have among other books, as the Silmarillion or Unfinished Tales. My sarcasm is not directed to these books…..
