Chicken soup!
I would like to order that chicken soup. To prevent this cold which is about to catch me . . .
Normally I prefer this liquid made out of potatoes for that reason.
But in this case I prefer the chicken soup.
Master Barliman?March 15, 2013 at 8:57 pm #27340I will have a go for both chicken soup and mug of ale…and smoke my pipe also !
March 15, 2013 at 9:23 pm #27341Well, I might indulge in a bit of liquid refreshment myself, since I have something to celebrate. It seems that from today I finally own my house – the mortgage has been paid off! This was unintentional, because we thought there was a larger sum still outstanding than actually was (it all got very complicated over the years, as money matters always do), but I received confirmation in writing from the bloodsuckers (sorry, the bank) this morning, so it’s official. Hurrah! – sort of. We also lose some tax allowance in the process, so it’s not all good news.
March 15, 2013 at 10:54 pm #27342So the Pony is now yours, congratulations Master Barliman (so by the way will you decrease your pint the coiny price?)
March 15, 2013 at 11:44 pm #27343. . . so that means: a free chicken soup for me!
And ale mugs for those you are still around . . .
Not many in this case, Master OWNER !
March 16, 2013 at 2:17 pm #27345Congratulation Master Barliman… I hope now you’ll have enough healthy years to enjoy with your family in your little corner of the universe… without “bloodsuckers” around…. Now you can spend more money to figurines, other hobbies and interesting travels… cheers !
March 16, 2013 at 4:23 pm #27348huooommm … well, Master Barliman, such news indeed cause some good feelings, as I witnessed this once myself … huoomm … though, as you pointed out, it’s just “a sort of Hurrah”, as the loss of tax-allowances will be cancelled … rhuom …
so all goes together with other, different inconveniences, right? … hooommm … so let me guess that in the end people around here shouldn’t be too hasty in expecting free drinks or even bar-snacks … huom … that wouldn’t be you to offer such things … rhuom … but you clearly pointed that out at the very beginning of your rather short statement, saying “I might indulge in a bit of liquid refreshment myself.” …. rhuomtodommm … clear words these are … huom
ahem, Ladies and Gentlemen, the price for any food or liquid within these premises will not be reduced and a free drink from the barkeep cannot be expected … huom ….
at least that’s what I understand …. rhuom … so, Master Barliman, may I offer you a drink to ease at least some of the upcoming inconveniences you will have to cope with? …. hhuuuooooom?March 16, 2013 at 5:16 pm #27349That’s very generous of you. Master Tree – ever the gentle-tree (I thought you might be offended if I said “gentleman”).
I’ve just been taking a look at the original deeds, which arrived in the mail this morning. The earliest states that the property was in existence in 1790, which tallies with a mid-19th centry photograph I’ve got, and with its appearance on the very first Ordnance Survey map, issued some time round 1810, though there’s no way of determing how much earlier it was built. Much water has passed under the bridge since then (as we say here in Bree) – which is just as well, since the area was still part of the fens back then, and hadn’t yet been entirely drained. The plot in which it stood was then referred to as “the milking place” – which is very odd, considering what’s sold and imbibed here now!
March 16, 2013 at 5:59 pm #27350huoomm … never mind how to address or call me … Master Barliman … so it seems that in the end you’re very much pleased by now owning the “milking place” (nowadays aka “Prancing Pony”) … rhuoommm … but mind, please, this is a public place … huom … though, as you know, I do still share your very interest in history and your passion … huom … so, there seems to be no better place to live in, just enjoy … huoomm … and don’t forget to bring Mrs B a tea (cream, spilled softly over the downturned teaspoon into the cup and don’t stir) from the tree … huomm … which is me … alas … even Thomas the Rhymer did better than me … enjoy ..
March 16, 2013 at 6:26 pm #27352Good news Master Barliman !
March 16, 2013 at 6:39 pm #27353Gimme shelter!
Because of the woman´s birthday there are STILL eight female around . . .
No silent corner for me to paint those miniatures we like . . . too much noise . . .March 17, 2013 at 12:35 am #27355huoomm … please be patient, Master Turambar, and don’t worry about a dozen or eight ladies … huomm … what for? … by tomorrow most of them will be gone and you can better concentrate on paiting your tiny-metal things … rhuoommm … referring to “let it bleed” you might have taken a wise decision listening to “gimmie shelter”, in case you followed the instructions provided on the original venyl-cover- release … huomm … which simply reads “This record should be played loud” … huoomm … so if you follow the old instructions on the cover, and use a good headset and try to close your eyelids a bit more … huomm … you’ll feel fine … huoommm …
March 17, 2013 at 7:56 am #27356Deaf, but otherwise fine.
March 17, 2013 at 3:34 pm #27357huuoommm … today I’m contemplating completely different matters and still have no correct answer … huoomm … maybe someone around here could help me a bit … rhuoomm … the problem is the so-called Prince of Squirrels, Môrlas … a very tiny Mithril-figure, as you know … huoomm … I certainly can recall all the background about this miniature very well, though I cannot remember who named him Morlas …. huom? … was it Master Bombadil63 or Chris Tubb? … rhuomm … and why to name the prince Morlas? … huomm … of course, ‘mor’ means very dark or black, referring to Master Tolkien’s use of language … so he is a prince of the black squirrels … huomm … but the syllable ‘las’ doesn’t mean much to me … more or less … hom ?
March 17, 2013 at 9:11 pm #27358I think I can help
I found back the mail I received from Roland (bombadil) back in time, saying he had received four little figurines from Chris, and the email along with it.
“Hi Roland
please find enclosedMorlas – Prince of Squirells?
A little compensation
for the Moria Gate!Chris Tubb”
this was the email… so I assume it was Chris who named it.
From the first four castings, Bombadil kept one, and sent the three others to collectors of his choice … I don’t know if those collectors want to be named so I won’t give the name. Just that I was one of them.
afterwards, Chris remade Morlas because there was a big request from collectors, and so the second batch of 14 or 15 castings ended up in my ends, to be redistributed among all the collectors who wanted one.
Owning one of each batch myself, I cannot distinguish the difference between the two of them…
March 18, 2013 at 10:57 am #27361There won’t be a difference between the castings assuming it was cast with the same mould, exept Chris used a different metal to cast the second batch.
March 19, 2013 at 6:08 pm #27364huuooommm … by now I found out myself about this Morlas-name-thing-matter .. huom … I’m sorry to have asked about this here, I should have known better whom to ask … rhuom … Master Gildor, thank you very much for contemplating this, well, unimprortant matter … hom … all you said and quoted is absolutely correct … huoomm … though in the end you couldn’t provide a clear answer but at least an assumption … rhuoommm … this would have been a nice riddle, wouldn’t it? …. huom
