An irascible man, by all accounts, but his creative genius as an author will never be surpassed – who today would be prepared to devote the time and attention necessary to create an entire legendarium the way he did?
The best comment on his remarkable achievement that I’ve ever read says simply: “How, given little over half a century of work, did one man become the creative equivalent of a people?”
Inspiring Words Master innkeeper !

September 5, 2013 at 6:50 pm #28557All of us have changing priorities as our lives, health, situations and responsibilties change, and consequently our priorities fluctuate with time. But it’s always a shame when someone gives up a hobby that has given them a lot of pleasure over the years. But who knows? – Master Bombadil and the Marshal may come back to the fold at some point in the future. I hope they do.
In the meantime, I shall join you for a drink, Master Tree, to wish them all the best in the meantime.

September 11, 2013 at 7:12 am #28606Hi Master Barliman,
It’s been a while since I took breakfast here. Can I have one today ?
I received new [mith]MS589[/mith] & [mith]MS590[/mith] yesterday. I would say these are quite nice miniatures. Still, not the best ones sculpted by the man this year.September 11, 2013 at 7:23 am #28607That’s disappointing – they look good in the photos. I still have to buy MS587–MS590, but since I can’t afford them at the moment I’m waiting for the right “discount offer”! (I shan’t buy MS586 at all – he’s just too inaccurate compared to JRRT’s description of the scene.)
September 19, 2013 at 5:13 am #28678This must be a record–no comments in the Pony for over a week! Well, Master Barli, I’ll take an ale . . . .
September 19, 2013 at 5:39 am #28679And 2nd breakfast for me please ! 😆
September 19, 2013 at 6:14 am #28682You’ll have to wait until I’ver had my first!
September 19, 2013 at 1:05 pm #28684Hi folks!
Have you heard the news of a new company (not GW) making miniatures in 30mm of Middle-earth?
September 19, 2013 at 1:51 pm #28685huoooommm … no, I haven’t Master Arthadan … rhuom … and your “linky” doesn’t reveil very much …. huom …
September 19, 2013 at 3:40 pm #28688well it may not be GW but it is still inspired from the PJ movies…. yet, I’d like to see more before giving any point of view
September 19, 2013 at 4:17 pm #28689Looks like a very impressive bit of modelling, but what is the company? It’s a much more accurate representation of the Ian McKellen version of Gandalf than GW’s – especially if the scale is genuinely 30mm and not some sort of super-sized hybrid (or “Hero Scale”, as the Fantasy companies like to call it).
September 19, 2013 at 4:53 pm #28690it does not look like being 32mm… i’d say bigger…
September 19, 2013 at 4:57 pm #28691That’s the impression I get too.
September 19, 2013 at 7:15 pm #28692On another matter entirely, might anyone here know why on earth I’ve been sent an MS435, apparently purchased on eBay circa 14 September? It’s a mystery to me. I’ve found a completed eBay listing that matches that date, and the price is rendered in green on the item’s page, which normally indicates that the account holder (i.e. me) won the item, but I didn’t bid on it, win it or pay for it (it certainly doesn’t show up on my PayPal account), so I’m utterly mystified.
The only thing I thought might explain it is if someone here asked for it to be mailed to me for forwarding. Did they? Not that this would explain the winner’s “green” price showing on my eBay page.
Very, very confusing.
I’ve sent an email to the only recent MS435 eBay seller that I can find, so I guess I shall have to wait and see what they say. Currently I’m extremely puzzled, since obviously the seller must have got my address from somewhere in order to mail the figures.
