July 24, 2017 at 7:07 pm #36220I listened for free????? It seems that I arrived at the right time …. 😆
July 24, 2017 at 7:17 pm #36222Thanks David, I’ll come out of my corner to join you all!
July 30, 2017 at 9:43 pm #36238well good folks, it’s not often I come along so I’ll gladly share a good drink with you all ! I’ll even pay for all the unpaid tabs so that our master innkeeper will be happy !
here ! a good ice fresh cider for me please !oh and i’d like to mention I’m going on holiday “at last” in two days, in the countryside, no internet, hopefully children will play outside with cousins and other old people happy to care abotu them (lets hope)
I checked up all my dusty covered painting material, pencils, paints and all and well I HOPE i’ll be able to paint this time… it’ll be the first time in a year and a half, and my view has worsened, I’ll need magnifiers to see details, age is taking on me!
my todo list includes : M424,M425, M426, M429…. M292, M348, M385, MS439, MS461 , MS466 & MS469….. I have one week and a half to paint all of that oO I wonder if I’ll be able to do so….
On a side note, I contacted Chris to see how he was doing, to get any news or anything… he replied that “he would reply tomorrow”… one week ago… Some of you, like me, must be used to that
well I’ll wait and if he ever gets back to me with news I’ll pass them along here
July 30, 2017 at 9:49 pm #36239Have a good time, Master Elf! (An elf with failing eyesight? Unthinkable! What would Legolas say?). Hope you get a chance to put brush to figure, but you know by this time of life how that sort of thing goes – “many a well-laid plan…” etc.
Hope you also get a chance to drink some wine in the sun!
July 30, 2017 at 10:01 pm #36242Cheers Gildor… please take a drink on my account… and keep coming… btw… Chris is very “short” with words for a last 2 years….
July 30, 2017 at 10:04 pm #36243well Chris is 65 now and well, people should begin thinking about retirement at this age, what will Mithril become, will it stop, will it have new sculptor ? at this point such questions occur… not to mention the huge backlog to fill (even if I am quite certain almost all of the suggestions are already digitally sculpted…)

July 31, 2017 at 7:07 am #36246Though there are lots of excellent figure designers these days, how could anyone take over from Chris? His style is unique and epitomises Mithril.
Mithril = Chris Tubb, and Chris Tubb = Mithril.
July 31, 2017 at 8:45 am #36247well i hate to say that but that’s true but closing a line such as mithril could be done with “anticipation” and not in a rush… it could “come to an end” peacefully and not abruptly, well I think
also, there is a way that could allow for others to take over Chris work but that would not be “Chris” exactly, and that may be one of the reasons Chris went into Zbrush and 3D sculpting.
using Zbrush, he was able to create “generic templates” of his sculpting style, making it adaptable for any further figurines (that incluse body proportions, heads/hair/face templates, texturing templates for armors and clothes….. well a bit like they do in a video game, every new character is not designed from scratch but taken out of a source template to match the overall style…
Ironically that’s why he sculpts quite faster than before and can correct masters before test castings without resculpting all…. but that also seems the reason it takes so much time to transform a 3D model into a proper physical master. (I don’t think final commercial casting is impacted)the casting out of 3D and the rendering is another matter , out of Chris’ hands but the sculpting can now be ‘saved’ digitally…
July 31, 2017 at 1:56 pm #36248All what I want to see is engraved CTubb on base… all this digitally saved templates is not interesting for me any more… Than Mithril can exist till the end of the century… but this is not interesting any more… no soul, no spirit, no imagination, no voting, nothing… just ordinary miniatures in some scale, like the bunch of toy soldiers…. Digitally saved sculpting… I know that it is interesting, but this is not for genuine collections any more… this is for playing RPGs….
July 31, 2017 at 2:49 pm #36249Sooner or later….. say Farewell to Mithril at last. I see the Star above my mast!
July 31, 2017 at 3:54 pm #36250No, that’s just because you’ve drunk too much scrumpy. I normally see pink elephants.
