These are what we call “Girolles”. Just amazing with garlic and potatoes. :P

Ah, nice to see that the place can run itself while I pop off to the north for a holiday. Now that I’m back there will doubtless start to be problems again. However, since I’m still in “post-holiday” happy-mode, I don’t suppose I shall notice.

Incidentally, on the whole I quite like the Harad flag-bearer, except that, as Master Turambar says, the flag itself is rather small. Still think the figure should have been part of a standard M range, not an MS….

          Hi master Barliman !
Did you see any lossoth men on wooden things in the north? This is something I always fear…walking on too much snow for my size. Maybe they have some suitable for hobbits there?
By the way, I am really glad you are back as it is time for breakfast.:D

huooomm … as our dear barkeep still is in a “post-holiday-happy-mode”, as he put it, he might not be able to serve any breakfast yet, Master Milo … rhuom … anyway, I’m glad to see you back here, Master Barliman … it seems that you have enjoyed your stay in the north … huoommm … that’s the country with the “~key” syllable instead of “~ky”, right? … huom

‘Tother way round, Master Tree – the ‘-key’ variety is the (superior!) type, as sold in Mithril-land, and also as spelt in the US, though I’ve never tried the American variety myself so can’t comment on its flavour. My holiday was in whisky-land, currently a very confused country attempting to commit financial and political suicide.

huoommm … right you are of course concerning that syllable, Master Barliman … hoommm … so I’d better have a wee dram to keep that in my mind for good… huom … and yes, things currently going on in whisky-land are more than strange indeed … rhûoom …

Hello Master Barli, welcome back! (to your own bar, no less). Thankfully the “NO’s” won, and that whole suicide business was avoided, at least for now. In the meantime, I have promised my friend, the Tree, some weed and ale (yes!! he will sip some ale . . . only it still must be out of his bowl). Enjoy Master Ent!

huoooommmmm … thank you so much, Master Twrich … huom … I’ll enjoy this …. rhuômmhuom … er, Master Barliman, I always trust that any liquid you fill my bowl with and is of a honey-or amber-colour is of very fine quality … huom … though you often choose to use different names for that liquid … huom … so if you call it ale today that’s fine with me … rhuom

Too bad! After a long journey, I would have enjoyed in a good warm cooked dinner. I’m going home then to take a look if there is some food in my pantry…. have a good night….

Good night, Master Thingol, I am sorry but in this case I cannot be of any help, alas … rhuoom … though Mr Barliman still is around here, somewhere … huomm … but mind please, when Mrs Barliman says “kitchen’s closed” that’s a fact, even for him … rhoomm … as far as I know … huom … and Nob cannot reach up to handle the cooker … huom … besides, he doesn’t seem to be keen on such matters as I can hear him snoring from somewhere in a distance … huom … that’s all there is ….

After finishing my holiday on an island far across the . . . ahem what? I suppose the fellows from spain should know it well.
What do I want to say? Now I am an expert concerning GIN, Master Barliman. Yes I am!
I met many people from your beautiful country and they told me all the different secrets . . . also concerning Tonic!
(well- taking all those invitations for serious I have planned my next holidays . . . )

Wasn´it your beloved Queen Mum who used to have this drink- “on the rocks” I suppose- and get a live over 100 ???!!!
We should do the same, if we want to see all releases from our company we trust in . . .

So I will share a “on the rocks” to see all release even if it’s a bit early for this drink.
But I understand Master Barliman doesn’t mind

I never mind what time folk want to drink, so long as they part with some coiny things for the privilege.

Ah yes, “mother’s ruin” as gin is often referred to here in Bree. Very popular amongst some people, and yes, the old queen reputedly had a liking for it. I doubt, however, that it gives people longer life, except in the same way as formaldahyde preserves scientific specimens! But it was certainly regarded as a medicine in the past, and used to be very cheap. Not so now!

You’ll find a good short history of its popularity and abuse here:

huoomm …. ah, I saw a well-known picture by Master William Hogarth in that link, Master Barliman … rhuo^0m … an interesting mind he had … hoomm … but wasn’t it just after he left ‘Gin Lane’ when he engraved his ideas about a ‘wrong perspective’ ? … alas, I cannot exactly recall … huomm … as it was a long time ago … huoommm …
… er, sorry Sir, I have been busy dusting and cleaning these premises from all them cobwebs, swiping the floor … huom … alas … for about a week by now … huom … just in case it’s clean if anyone pops in here … huoomm …

Well, I drank Gin once when I was 16…Since that day, I could not manage to drink drop of it. Even the smell reminds me how sick you can get if you drink too much.
So my advice is to be carefull with this stuff.
On my side, I’ll have a pint of good ale with my breakfast.

Good advice regarding gin, Master Milo. I too only ever dreank it once, when I was a teenager. As far as my taste-buds are concerned, it’s AWFUL stuff. I’d rather drink anything else, up to and including rat pee…
