alas I don’t think that as long as the sales will be conducted on ebay , in batches and on a buy-it-now basis we will manage to “escape” drizztdourden … This guy is a businessman and a collector. I don’t know if he is on this forum I doubt so, and so in order for him to know about the auction time he may have been warned by chris tubb directly? as odd as it seems it is possible….

I would be ill placed to write to Dominique (drizztdourden real name, he is french…) and tell him about his lack of fairness, because it’s thank to him, that I managed to quite complete my collection… He does business that’s true, I even think it is one of his source of income… sharing buying and reselling Mithril… He has a pool of providers.. and customers… but he also collects at least one of each figurine for himself, so if he bought 5 sets… we can consider at least one is for him alone…

Maybe Drizzt has only a visitor access to this forum and as such , he has a reading access to the Pony if any informations are provided about the sales there? that would explain how he was aware of the sale but the date and hour were not given on the pony….The Tharbad and Esgaroth sections are for members only… to protect members and “facts” that shoudn’t be spread outside of the community …. I think it is wise…

I don’t think Chris writes to Drizzt direct. The sale lasted for 3 minutes even it was listed early. Did he write especially to all these people buying the sets within these 3 minutes? I don’t think so. Chris just sends his mail to all the addresses he got from all the collectors and if you don’t live at the end of the world, you can start checking for the listing one or two hours early so you don’t miss it.

still the information must have come from somewhere master Holger… I don’t think that it could vanish in 3 minutes by pure coincidence, all people who bought it were aware there would be this sale by a way or another …

Well, Master Gildor, all of us where aware that Chris would list the dwarves on sunday and it looks like there are enough collectors having enough time to check on a hourerly base if the listing is up! Good on them! Unfortunally I don’t have that time and in between I need some sleep too. Bad luck for me and all the others who didn’t get a set. But that’s live. Shit happens.

Huoommm … well, though I’m quite talkative I can tell you that I did not give away any information about this auction … rhuooommm … years ago I also bought some figures from Master Dominique and had some contact …. huommm … I can confirm what Master Gildor said about him … rhuoommm … so there’s two sides of a coiny thing … hom … on one side you’re after profit, as Master Dominique is (remember the prices he was asking for for the Pikemen of ‘Saruman’s army’ – and they didn’t sell that way), the other is to provide Chris’ offers in a fair way. … rhuoommm … that’s difficult, I think … and mind, we had this same discussion a long time ago … rhuoommm … must have been on Mithrandir’s MMP …. hooommm …
there I stated that I always ever only buy/bought one set of his figures, as I do not want to harm other collectors with buying more than one [alas, the only time I bought two sets were the last four Dwarves, but I intended to give them away as a prize of my last Christmas-riddle, wasn’t it like that Mistress Wendy?] … huoommmmm …
Now you might ask if it’s a good idea to restrict the “buy-it-now” offer on Ebay to allow one person just to buy one item …. gruuoommm … impossible, meseems …. once I was logged in and confirmed my purchase (I think I was third) I had the chance of pushing that blue button on the right reading “want to buy more?” … huoommmm …

Here’s some tidbits…

I imagine Chris just does a blanket e-mail about the sale to all the collectors he has ever had contact with. I got one about a week before the sale. It would be unfair of him to exclude individuals for any reason. I really have nothing against what Dom does as well. I bought figs form him years ago, and he is upright and fair, just very expensive. The market will decide if he is too expensive or not.

Now, on a cheerier note, I contacted Chris and he withheld a few sets of dwarves put up on E-bay later to allow for collectors who were on holiday to have a chance at the auction! He didn’t say how many, but I imagine 5-6. That gives us poor sods who missed it another shot!! Capital fellow, that Mr. Tubb. A round for everyone in his good name!

I everyone, I popped out for a while…this summer I’ve discovered that when Frodo tossed the ring into Mt Doom, Sauron didn’t really vanish, he went into real estate here in California…I can jump right in and comment about the Dwarves and ebay. I was lucky enough to get a set. Here are some of my secret methods. I opened another website in addition to ebay which tracks GMT (and yes, being aware of the UK’s version of daylight’s savings time I checked an hour early and I think Chris created some confusion about this before one time with on of these auctions). When you sell on ebay you can program when the listing starts, something that Chris does. So one must open a search and refresh it at the right time. Also, you have to be fast on the ‘buy-it-now’ button! Most of these MW sales have been gone in minutes, under 3, in fact. But The half-orc command set sat for a few hours as did one other set (dwarve command?) if my memory serves. You can not, to my knowledge limit purchasers from buying more than one, though you can reject bids. The buying of more than 2 sets seems unfair, but then again I don’t think it can be helped if the otherwise fair format is to continue. I think there are more collectors than 25 who’d buy these! Belated congradulations to the new fathers here; welcome to the world of diapers!

Huoommm … I didn’t want to start this same old discussion about how The Man sells his miniatures, again … rhuooommmm … we had this many years ago and I can live with that well … he’s just trying to be fair … that’s all … huommm
rhuoommm … with one of the offers of the ‘Saruman’s Army’ – one or two years ago – I asked him not to place that “auction” in August (as he announced) as some of those who could be interested in that might then be on holiday … I’m still glad that he gave in, because that way I was able to complete that army … rhuoommm … of course he didn’t only do it for me as I asked to mind all collectors that could be interested in that offer … then I just tried to make him aware that this time of a year is not the best for providing those jewels on Ebay as, as I said before, some Mithril collectors are enjoying their summer holidays that time … rhuoommm ….
anyway, Master Presto247365, it’s good to learn that he kept some sets for those people … huoommm … “capital fellow” you said … rhuoommm … and so he is … cheers … rhuoommhom

maybe some of us have seen them… but if I am correct, Chris would have asked a non-disclosure of the pictures …

I think presto hit the nail on the head as I too received an email from CT and I haven’t purchased anything from him since the Elven Princess set, so though I think Gildor mentioned CT lost a lot of data he probably still has his mail list (although I noticed this was an individual mail to me so I guess everyone gets an individual email to keep email addresses hidden) hence Dritz (or whoever grabbed 5 sets) being aware.

I can’t complain as I didn’t intend to bid, too many already to paint – might be interested in the man and short bearded folk though if the price is ok.

Huoommm … there are no pictures of the ‘Strawheads’ so far … The Man does not reveil information about these matters … rhuoommm … or, as you said, Master Gildor, it’s about a “non-disclosure” of pics … rhuoommm …. and this we just have to respect … huoommm … by now I’m happy being allowed to hang up pictures of the coming ‘unexpected party’ in that Mathom House … rhuoommm … I saw some of those Swan-Knights before that MX-Imrahil was released … rhuoommm … that’s another matter … huoommm … but I did not provide those pics here or elsewhere … huoommm … so our barkeep didn’t do …. but as for those Dwarvish vignette I did ask The Man if I would be allowed to show pictures …. rhuoomm … he gave me a go … so why not share witnessing the birth of something spectecular? …. rhuoommm

Er, actually, I’ve had a picture of the Strawheads for quite a while, but as Master Gildor and the Tree have guessed, I was asked not to broadcast it… But the figures do look very nice, which is why I’m keen to see them go into production (though what price they’ll end up costing is another issue!).
