After a very, very, VERY vexatious day, I got my wire brush, and after 30 minutes of dedicated scrubbing, the last of the 12 Rohan warriors I bought are now safe to be assembled.
You wouldn’t believe the names I was calling the nice people in Cork. Not pleased.
Anyway, onwards and upwards!

January 10, 2010 at 12:35 am #8586I am nout quiet sure about that, Gavin. There are A LOT of names . . .
January 10, 2010 at 1:05 am #8587Rhuooommmhuomm … hooomm … what is this now? … gruooouumm? … a bowl of clear-clean-water? …. huomm … Master Barliman, to be honest, I did not ask for a bowl of ice … rhuoom…
though it’s water, of course … rhuoommm … but the quality of your liquids seems to be decreasing or better say changing… huoommm … so to say … rhuoomm … no harm intended, of course … rhuomm …
but next time you might serve that bowl of clear-clean water with a fork and knife, please … hom
… alas … I think you just forgot it’s winter time … huooommmmJanuary 10, 2010 at 8:04 am #8588Just break a piece off and suck it, Master Tree. I’ve given up putting ice in the drinks and have resorted to putting drinks in the ice. The mead popsicle is particularly nice.
Reading of your trials with the undercoat custard, Master Gavin, reminds me that I meant to mention that my “Helm’s Deep 1” figures have no undercoat at all, which is a considerable improvement. Are your Rohirrim from another range?
January 10, 2010 at 1:40 pm #8589Just make sure it is frozen scrumpy on a stick , you know how these Breelanders like a joke at the expense of the unwary!!
January 10, 2010 at 1:43 pm #8590Nope, these are the recent Helm’s Deep series, M-510, M511, M512 and M513 complete with goop. When I ordered them, I hoped they would be merciful to me and send me something without goop, but alas no.
The next mithril purchase I make will be the Knights of Dol Amroth and the Corsair “warband” sets without any undercoat at all. After that, I will have to strongly weigh the decision to purchase future M figures, if they come like that. Because that stuff does not come off without a fight, and the wire brush scrubbing did the figures no favours. And after spending all that money, to have these stripped scratched figures is quite the disappointment.

January 10, 2010 at 3:36 pm #8591How odd. I don’t recall asking mine not to have undercoat but perhaps I did. It’s a while ago now, and my memory isn’t what it was (if it ever was what it was, so to speak – memory like a lumber room etc). Do I recall Mithril offering to provide figures without porridge on them if we didn’t want it? I guess, though, that it depends on what’s in stock and what has to be cast especially to meet an order. The undercoat on the Corsairs and Knights of DA is OK, though – they’re from the pre-goop era – so you shouldn’t have any troubles there.
January 12, 2010 at 5:18 am #8592I requested my helms deep figs without primer and they came that way. I remembered Michael responding to the critism of the members by offering to replace figs if we were unhappy with unprimed ones.
January 16, 2010 at 9:46 pm #8605Rhuoommmtudoommtidom … the primer is about to being changed for the better …. rhuoomm … I do hope this is good news …… the UP will be delivered unprimed, anyway …
rhuooommm …. huooom … there are reasons for that having nothing to do with primers …
ahh, thank you, Master Barliman, for that bowl-of-whatever-is-in-it ….January 16, 2010 at 11:26 pm #8608These are GOOD NEWS, Master Theobald. I think I will follow and having a bowl too . . . Are there still icy-times . . .
January 17, 2010 at 2:13 am #8609Well, I finished Theodred last night, and I am working on four more Riders of Rohan (well, one of whom is the Eomer mounted figure) right now.
The weather outside is fascinatingly skanky, so I am not going out there to take pictures.
Soon, though, I hope!
January 17, 2010 at 11:35 am #8611Huoommmm … weather? … that snowy rain comes down to the frozen ground … huoommm … even my cats, who have some nice devices at their feet, are slipping away … funny creatures …
no pics today … huoomm … none … I have to take care of that icy load on my branches … homJanuary 17, 2010 at 1:43 pm #8615I got the same confirmation from the Man , Theobald…and that was very pleasant to hear (it appears Chris himself went to see how the primer was done, in the factory and convinced Lars that it was totally “unacceptable” and to change the primer with a brand Chris was using and had been proven worthwile! So this is solved once and for all!)
As a side note I should soon receive, hopefully, a picture of the “defeated Arvedui”, which should have a very proper primer, and also he seems seems to work on another “large mithril project” after the Unexpected Party (I have no details at the moment sorry)I don’t have any time to paint or work on mithril at the moment, and the travelling Elrond is just warm besides his fellow elves but I don’t know when I’ll be able to write up some entries in his diary and take some pics!
NB : master ent, the other day my little child said something very odd and strange indeed… some strange sound a bit like a … “burarhuomm”… I fear there may be some entish blood in his veins!
January 17, 2010 at 4:28 pm #8621Huoommm … yes, indeed, The Man is busy with some other major Mithril project. …rhuoomm …
as for the primer-problem … rhuoommm … it’s solved, definitively … so there will be a much more better quality of the primer being provided in future … huoommm… very much better … huom
though the not-priming of the MX-UP has nothing got to do with the primer-problem … rhuoomm … hom … the figures are pegged on the feet rather than on bases … huoomm …
that way it is very difficult to have them stand up in the spray booth … rhuoomm … this concept leaves the availability to place each figure where you will, as the base will have no locator-holes … rhuoommm … though one piece will be sprayed for advertising … hoommm …
It’s good to know that our Travelling Elrond has found a good place to stay …
Rhuoommm … Master Gildor, what Raphael wanted to tell you simply is:
“bura” = means ‘you’ … “rhuomm” = means ‘consider’ – so all that is about is the fact that your son is aware of you being his father … the double “m” also shows that he likes it … as a triple “m” would denote some considering … though I don’t know where he learned that tongue … rhuoommm … anyway, you shouldn’t “fear” about that, Master Gildor … better is to enjoy … huoommmrhuooomdom … hom …January 18, 2010 at 7:06 am #8631Like Gildor it is for me:
Little children keep you busy and away from small lead figures and Mithril related projects. Well but not from buying them.
THANKS to you all, who helped solving the primer problem. Also thanks a lot to Chris for struggeling to solve this affair.
Concerning previews and new releases: Maybe it would be possible to make a thread on the mmp-sites “on the workbench” like some other artists have?? So we can see some of Chris’ “greens” and work in progress. I think it would be interesting, even if Tolkien enterprises does not allow production of that figures/sets etc. at the end. (e.g. Kev White has something like this: http://www.hasslefreeminiatures.co.uk/wip.php – this example is not meant as an advertising by me!!)
What do you think?Maybe I should take some time to send Chris a mail about that, bit I did not want to keep him away from designing
.
January 18, 2010 at 10:08 am #8632Well, Master Estel, there is only one thing to do: supporting this !!!!
I remember a similar discussion of exactly this topic somewhere in april last year . . .
Having pics from the Man´s workbench would be paradise. Some people around here know how I like those workbench pictures.
To show the “work-in-progress (like Big Boris of Hersey miniatures do) would be especially for us mithril-enthusiasts a absolutely fantastic thing.
Let´s contact those of us who have this special contact with The Man . . . to inform him . . . to persuade him . . .January 18, 2010 at 10:26 am #8633I’m reminded of something Gandalf once said: ‘Many folk like to know beforehand what is to be set on the table; but those who have laboured to prepare the feast like to keep their secret; for wonder makes the words of praise louder.’
And I agree. Nothing special would be gained from seeing The Man’s greens being shaped (unless you’re a gardener), and the actual figures are far more interesting when they come if you don’t know every detail in advance. I have a suspicion that if we’d seen greens of the missing Easterling cavalry three years ago when they were produced we’d be a helluva lot more ticked off that they never got into production! And life’s too short to be that frustrated for years on end…
Be like our resident Tree. Don’t be hasty!
January 18, 2010 at 12:11 pm #8634. . .and there are always two sides . . . Although I am jealous of this “green room” I certainly can understand what the famous Innkeeper means.
Sometimes you don´t want to know all secrets . . .PS: a never went into production Easterling cavelery . . . oh my goodness. Heard about this the first time. Because three years go I wasn´t called a member here . . .
Probably I will get no sleep tonight . . . A never went into production Easterling cavelery . . .January 18, 2010 at 2:30 pm #8635Huoooommmmm … I do agree completely with you Master Barliman and you quoting Master Gandalf … huoommm … correct that is … hommm … why spoil what we call a surprise? … or even something unexpected? … gruuhuoommhom … patience is something that makes you feel more relaxed and offers you time to enjoy different things or metal pieces … you know? … hom
January 18, 2010 at 2:35 pm #8636Huoommm … oh, yes, those Easterling riders … alas … they do exist, as far as I know … huoomm … but I’m afraid it would be a massive project to let them loose … huuuuoommmmm
… but maybe … one day … huom -
