Hm, the assassin is very disappointing. And … no beard with Radagast? I somehow imagine him very differently. Bombur looks nice. But hey…
[Edit: Now that I have her in front of me, the assassin looks better than I originally thought!

February 13, 2010 at 10:36 am #8821Huooommm … rhuoommm … no word left for the development of the UP, though some facts about it were mentioned in the last newsletter? … rhuoommm … as far as I know it was a bit hard for ‘The Man’ to sculpt two “Bomburs” at the same time … rhuoomm…
… as for the three figures … hooommm … that Radagast, mounted, seems to be a brilliant figure … rhuoomm … I will have a closer look again at the picture provided … rhuoommm … shouldn’t there be at least a tail of a cat somewhere to be seen? … hom … and a birdy thing?
… huoomm … anyway, we’ll see soon … that’s not my cup of tea, so to say … huoommFebruary 13, 2010 at 10:52 am #8822groooommmmmmmmmmm … homhuoomm …. hom … time goes by … huoomm … or even passes … huomm … anyway, it tends to slip away somehow … huom … one more entry here and I will have matched up with the present date of year… groouummhommm … let me please tell you that I feel sorry for each and every nerve of yours I trampled upon since we met here … huooommmmmmmhuomhom …
February 13, 2010 at 11:15 am #8823People you have to know, there is a lot of snow in Germany.
Master Theobald reaches the level of sentimentality,
as far as I am concerned: I speak with my miniatures I am actually painting . . .February 13, 2010 at 12:53 pm #8824Snowed in Bree again today too, but a mere dusting, fit to cool a Hobbit’s toes. So, everyone seems to want cups of tea now, then? I’ll get Nob to put the kettle on (though it’s a bit large for his head).
February 13, 2010 at 5:54 pm #8825😆 The entertainment in the Pony is always worth the price of admission.
February 14, 2010 at 9:32 am #8826well radagast without beard was foresseable… previous Radagast from mithril did not have any, they ca’t change the design throughout the range… still once painted he can appear definitly old enough… Istari were said to have doned the body of very old men when they left Valinor….but very old man does not necessarily means bearded… i suppose beard marks a person as wise (that’s a cliché..) bu radagast has so often been presented as “dumb” that hehe why not
the asassin though is disappointing…. her traits cloak dagger and aspect in general lack… sharpness. that’s the best way i find to describe the problem
February 14, 2010 at 3:51 pm #8829Huoommm … price of admission? …. Master Regalrick, do you have to pay at the entrance of these poor premises … ? rhuoommm … rhuoomm … must be another tricky thing thought of by our dear barkeep to gain some coiny things … alas … rhuoomm … inventive he is …
ahem, Master Gildor,… rhuoommm … my M84 has no beard, but the LR3 has one … huommm … I think it just depends on how often people shave … rhuoommm …
February 14, 2010 at 7:09 pm #8830Hello from the frozen tundra. This Winter my home has been as snowed in as Forochel! The snowbanks at the end of the lane are so high that an Assassin could hide behind them.
Speaking of Assassins, I was the one who suggested her first, and eventually the time she won. Dispite a vocal minority, eventually a majority thought she’d make a good addition. So my opinion is biased. I’m sorry to hear that Chris’s rendition has dissapointed some above.
But I just saw two days ago that she was ready for sale. Do some of those who are displeased actually have the figure already? Or are the comments based on the pictures on the Mithril site, or just general opposition to the idea? Certainly our barkeep doesn’t have one in hand as he has said he wouldn’t even buy it if offered money. Now of course, we must wonder about that as he is always harping on us to give him coiny things and I have never heard him to turn down something for free! And then there is his penchant for making broad proclamations (you know, exaggerations).
Well, I hope it is the latter, and that in one’s hand the opinions about the famale assassin of Dol Amroth will change. I’ll withhold judgement until I see her up close.
I also would have liked Bombur in mail, especially now that after fours years we finally get not one but two of them including the upcoming UP release, which I am looking forward to very much! I also favor Radagast with a beard, even though he hasn’t always been produced that way. Living in the wild with birds and animals and sometimes not much shelter, a beard seems appropriate, especially in winter.
Again, I will wait until I have all figures in hand to pass any judgement.
February 14, 2010 at 7:29 pm #8835…. only the short comment… all of the last released figures are nice and I hope soon they will be in my shelf…. have a nice sunday evening guys !
February 14, 2010 at 7:39 pm #8836There is a Radagast with beard, the LR3 from the Five Istari Linited Range (although is a short one and it seemed he shaved it soon after posing for this sculpt…)
February 14, 2010 at 9:52 pm #8839What do you mean, Master Twrich? – even if Sauron himself threatened to insert little pointy things under my fingernails, I would never, ever, EVER exaggerate – er, hang on, I think I just did…
February 14, 2010 at 10:24 pm #8840indeed mea culpa on Radagast, he has a short beard on LR3
as for female assassin this is indeed extrapolation, i’ll wait to see it, but from the picture I saw, the dagger makes me perplex…
February 15, 2010 at 5:22 am #8842LOL master barkeep. I think you have a better sense of humour than most of us, and certainly better than I.
February 15, 2010 at 9:40 am #8843Voting will begin on the 11th of February (first round), Michael said.
Has forgotten Michael to enable the vote?
Certainly the three new suggestions …… I keep the dwarf
……dwarves ….. there is never enough for me…..
Indeed, the female assassin reminds me…….. Gildor’s avatar!…… similar pose

I answer myself 😆
I apologise for not stopping the thread earlier but Chris forgot to send me the list of suggestions he agrees with so I left it open until he got back to me. We will have the list up later today.
Michael today in the Mithril´s page…..February 16, 2010 at 2:00 pm #8845again standard bearers??? but that’s enough for god sake
February 16, 2010 at 2:08 pm #8846Well, there’s room for both. There has to be.
Look at the first three or four years of the Mithril line. What do you see? Orc enemies, player character types, important personalities, warriors and fighters. Standard bearers, captains and chieftains. Why? Because Mithril was born to serve the Middle-earth roleplaying game. And this is a good thing. MERP represents the greatest exploration and expansion of Tolkien’s world ever. It was only much later when Mithril aimed for small vignettes, scenes and odd little collectables.
You don’t need to be collecting a gaming army to appreciate a Minas Morgul standard bearer. It could just as easily be the centrepiece of a wonderful diorama. We’ve had things made such as the Forging of Anduril which, while nice, is not much good to me, and three witch kings in the Fellowship range alone.
I am also quite the purist, but I also remember when Mithril came from (and with a new LOTR RPG in the works, I’d love to see it continuing in that direction a ways)

February 16, 2010 at 2:31 pm #8848I’m always happy to let the voting decide what’s wanted and what isn’t. I don’t necesarily like what wins – indeed, there have been one or two winners that are “Fantasy with a capital F” nonsense as far as I’m concerned, and nothing whatsoever to do with JRRT’s vision of Middle-earth – but in that case I simply don’t buy them.
I think, as Master Gavin has intimated, that we see a suffficiently well-rounded mixture of suggestions and winners in the course of any twelve-month period. Some I like, and some I very definitely don’t like, but someone obviously must, otherwise they wouldn’t have won in the first place. I learnt long ago that I can’t have my own way all the time (though I’m still waiting for someone to explain why, exactly…).
February 16, 2010 at 2:45 pm #8849Some of the decisions thrown up are peculiar, as are some of the winners.
And some of the votes are obviously there to round out an army or diorama set or something. For example, Mithril has had certain “signature” armies which keep coming up: the hordes of Angmar, for example, or the Orcs of Minas Morgul. (Go look through the database, see what I mean) but because of the peculiar way that Mithril releases products, you end up with “bits” of the army released over decades.
This Christmas we got a MERP villain who was first mentioned in an early 80s ICE supplement. Recently we got the Angmar standard bearer – to go with the Angmar half-troll captain released in 1990. Now others clearly want a Morgul standard bearer to go with the Morgul captain and the Morgul orcs and various other denizens of Cirith Ungol and places nearby. At some time in the dim and distant future, I’ll put together my Minas Morgul mithril army, and then a standard bearer will be quite welcome.
The other factor is that while many do not want Mithril to become GW (obviously!), GW has a deeply unpleasant habit of making hideous throwaway creations for important, if minor, elements of Middle-earth. The Mithril Arnorian knight is a head and shoulders above the GW Arnor model set. The Mithril black numenorean, with his MERP style helm, is a beautiful, subtle and believable creation. The GW black numenoreans are an embarassment.
So for some collectors, (like me) buying Mithrils is also an opportunity to see these elements of Middle-earth realised by someone with an obvious love and respect for the material, matched to talent and commitment. So the military mithrils are worthy competition to the others. (The Lord of the Rings, after all, is the story of a war, and those caught up in it)
But Mithril, unlike GW, can make soldiers and heroes and captains and turn around and release a set of some characters having tea. And so it should be.
