Can I join you ? I totally agree, who cares about the mithril stamp ?
What is important is that Chris’s minis are the best ME minis ever made and. His work shall continue as long as he can use his hands.
I will try this special “Archer 80’s”.

      Sheers to all here !

Just for the record, the point I was originally making, several drinks ago, was not that avid enthusiasts like ourselves would give a gnat’s whiskers whether or not the figures said ‘Mithril’ on them, but rather that we constitute a very small minority, and that a larger market indeed would be needed to justify the time and expense of such an exercise in commercial terms.

You are not wrong Master Barliman, but why did Chris sculpt the easterlings if it is to expensive to produce them????
That was the point I tryed to make before…. things don’t make sense….. to many lose strings!

He’ll have made them because he’ll have been paid by Mithril to do so, I imagine. What doesn’t make sense is for Mithril to pay him for the design work and then not produce the figures. They might not have have made much of a profit, but they would have at least made enough to cover the costs involved. Or so I’d have thought.

Of course Chris was paid by Mithril, I didn’t think he would have made them just to put them up in a shelf….
And yes I aggree with you in regards production of them. At least some of the money spend would have come back.
                I’m happy I’m not God, therefor I don’t have to understand everything.:P

                          hint :

haven’t you seen that the Man is selling himself his own figurines and stocks… under HIS name and not under the mithril ebay shop…
haven’t you seen he is working to produce “Phaeton” design… miniatures to be able to release them by himself…

thus… do you really think that, at the moment, Mithril is paying the Man what they used to pay him… I am certain part of his income is due to the sales…. if what he sculpts is not put into production I’m afraid he does not gain a lot of money…

If you consider that the man himself prefers to work on Phaeton at the moment – to get money – because he clearly sees that Mithril does not release his own work…(and thus less money for him too)… well, that explains much

Still, all of us may like the man’s work… still it would be a great loss if the mithril tolkien licence was lost… I can always pretend that a Cuchulain is a dunlending or queen mehb some sort of Alustiriel or so… well, it will only be what we assume it to be…

we have to think about all those people who are there , waiting to discover Mithril… potentially interested. What will you tell them? “hey, you see this roman centurion from Julius Caesar army? well it is actually Isildur!!! yes yes I assure you!” nobody will believe it except our very limited circle of collectors/chris’ fans…
And if people begin to believe it strongly… well, Middle Earth Enterprise will say ‘oh, then you release tolkien stuff without using the licence? perfect…. we put you on trial… we’ll make you close your enterprise and endup totally bankrupt, at mithril”…

I extrapolate into drama…. indeed, but that’s what could happen if we all loose the focus on the fact there is the “Tolkien Licence” that is ALSO very very important besides the man’s work… losing it and GW will have totally won their struggle…

I prefer to work on strong marketing, a blackout of sales for one year or two if need be… selling other products, sparing some money to rebuild a site and prepare a strong marketing campaign, and when all is ready… “go go go!”

For those who like Chris work, be relieved… a complete range of Irish Iron-Age heroes in 32mm referenced “PIx” (x stands for the ref number) will soon appear…
I have a pic or two, and I will use this site to add them in a new category of the database…

So there will be products… but these products, though matching the Mithril style, won’t be tolkien related. There also may be nordic mythologic references… but I can’t say much about it yet…

“the destroyer of dwarves” project has been postponed and eventually canceled due to risks involved in copyrights…

I’d like to insist that the fact Lars took the decision -finally- to remake totally all the Prince August websites into something strong and dynamic is one of the best news in the last two or three years for Mithril future…. So let’s sit and wait for a while…. it’s too hot out there

do you have some iced tea from Forochel my dear Butterburr? Soon we’ll have to celebrate the 10000th visit on the Mithril Faerylands site!

I suspect that several of us already knew about the Irish range (I helped Chris find some of his research material), but I wasn’t sure how he was going to market them, so that’s interesting.

As for fantasy Nordic stuff, it may become all the rage shortly, what with the upcoming “Thor” movie and all.

also on mithril site is presented Eowyn and Hirluin… 100% exceptional figures… Hirluin look spectacular…. !!!!!!!

In general I have to say people are pretty stupid. Well that what it seems to me anyway. There are to many things in this whole Mithril thing with all lose ends and nobody seems to be able to put a knot in those ends.
I wouldn’t care if these minis have a Mithril stamp in the base or not, as long as Chris desighned them.
The unreleased dwarfes don’t have anything on the base and still, they all sold and not for a small ammount eighter.
The elf vignette, the dancing elf girl….. and I’m sure if you Gildor would put one of the “Born of Hope” on ebay you would be surprised how much you could get for it. None of them are Mithril, but they are done by the man and this is the important thing. I will keep buying figures from Chris if he puts a “Phaeton” up for sale, just because I love his style, not because of a Mithril stamp.
Just my thoughts and I don’t really care if someone else agrees or not.

I agree with Holger’s view – if it is Chris’s design I am up for it, it is the sculptor NOT the name under the base; if Chris and Mithril parted company and a new designer came in then I would more than likely part company as well with Mithril.

Mithril (with a couple of exceptions) are the only small scale figures I collect, originally because they just happened to be Tolkien related, but also because I have built up a great respect for Chris’s work and designs; that’s not to say that I buy all Mithrils/CT designed figures, and some characters/craetures perhaps do not lend themselves to Chris’s style of sculpting IMHO, but that is just that, my opinion.

As I have said before I consider myself a collector of Mithril’s, collecting those figures which I can see a use for in a scenic setting, not a Collector where I need a complete collection of what Mithril have produced. If Chris were to go it alone with Phaeton and the figures looked Tolkien-like I would be more than happy to collect if I can see Tolkien potential in the figure (providing the price was reasonable ;) )

The mention of the Irish ‘mob’ sounds really interesting and if I can use them for my purposes as they are Tubb designs then they are fair game to mix with Mithrils in my desire to create small dioramas and scenes from the books.

Anyhow, now I have left the memories of my holiday behind me, I hope to crack on where I left off, and get the UP finished 😆

I can only suppose – if Chris stays with the ‘style’ he’s developed for the Isengard orcs – that he’ll be a raggedy-arsed individual with no armour and minimal equipment. Otherwise he’ll look just like the others – which would be disappointing.
