I couldn’t even shift the crap with acetone. It required…lots of different things, followed by manual scraping.
Some of the regulars here were able to order un-undercoated variants though
I am tempted to email them and say: attention PA, I will be buying Helm’s Deep series 2 in December. I do not want them with undercoat. Please be prepared to sell me non-undercoated figures (ie, set a few full sets aside, sans GOOP) or I am not purchasing them for you. Because the things were expensive and it took me months before I could start painting them because of the goop.
*snarl*
August 19, 2010 at 5:50 am #11438… I hope HD 2 will come without bad or any undercoat…. I was last time also spend a week to move as you write above “sticky staff – called crap “…. those figures on newsletter pictures are remarkable…
August 19, 2010 at 6:19 am #11439What are you all worried about? Surely the grey goop issue was resolved some time ago – or so I thought. Am I wrong? My latest three orders from the factory have all had a perectly acceptable grey undercoat. Of course, there may very well be some older stock that was sprayed before the complaints all went in, but I don’t anticipate any new figures being covered in it. Look at the latest Fellowship releases – they’ve all been fine.
August 19, 2010 at 8:31 am #11440What are you worried about, just dump the minis in scrumpy it’ll take all the goop of….. and it you lucky it only desolves parts of the figures:lol:
Well, Acetone is not the best thing anyhow!
If you get a thinner for nitro laquer and bath the little fellows in it for a day, then scrubb them with a hard toothbrush I’m sure you get the undercoat of. If not the first time, repeat the procedure. With that method I got all of mine cleaned up… so far.August 19, 2010 at 8:43 am #11442A toast to our new member industriousmatr! It doesn’t matter if it is a orc, at least we have another reason for celebrating…
August 19, 2010 at 9:09 am #11443Any excuse will do.
I use Nitro Mors to strip the paint. Follow the same procedure as with the Master Caster’s concoction. It works excellently – probably even better than my scrumpy.
August 19, 2010 at 10:57 am #11452Huuoommm … I think Master Barliman is right … hom … I also think that the problem with that grey stuff has been solved quite a while ago – thanks to The Man …. huoomm … I thought I reported about that somewhere around here … huom … so, Master Gavin, I think you were unlucky to have bought one of the sets with the old slimily-smeared-greyish undercoat … hom … I also guess what Master Barliman mentioned before, that it must have been one set of the old production … rhuooommm … in that case note what our Master Caster advised to do, using a “bath of nitro-thinner” and a hard tooth brush …. rhuoommmhom … that’ll work … hom
August 19, 2010 at 1:14 pm #11463Huuooommmmmrhuommm … hom … Master Barliman, would you please serve liquids for all regulars around here, please? … huoomm? … yes, of course, mark it on my tab … grrrruhuom … and, alas, I nearly forgot to tell you to give the Man in the Dark another fill of that smokey-thing he uses to burn in his pipe … huuoommmm …. not forgetting Nob to take part in this, please … huom … the cat, of course … gruoomm … you might even ask Mrs B to join our pleasant company then … homm …
…….. why? …. ahem, well, celebration that is … 2400th entry … rhuoomm … hasty I was with all that … sorry … houuuOooOMmmmmmmrhuom … kloppediklopp …<-- first smily I used as an Ent in all those years .... hooooommmmm ... cheers, mefriends .... hom!
and keep on, please …August 20, 2010 at 11:41 pm #11484A voice from a dark corner says:
“Why thank you Master Ent, you are always remembering me, which is greatly appreciated!”
August 22, 2010 at 11:42 pm #11538Huoouummm … the Man in the Dark reveiled some presence lately, which he usually does not … huommm … in here, you can neither see or hear him, though he’s always present … gruuoouuhuommm … I only witnessed that there was no more smoke coming out of that woodely-thing he uses to burn some plants …. rhuoooommm …. some plants from the shire, I guess … huoommm … but I still wonder why that Man in the Dark thought that I did forget him ? …
August 23, 2010 at 3:58 am #11539I Didn’t think that for a moment, if I may be hasty.
August 24, 2010 at 5:21 pm #11565Wow, the White Council is gorgeous:
I had sort of conflated the idea in my head with the Council of Elrond, so I was expecting Erestor, Galdor and so on.
But this is beautiful. I love how Galadriel looks like she has a migraine coming on and would like Saruman to quieten down.
Also, I am going to be getting these new Dunlendings as Beorning warriors (throw in a couple of the “official” Beornings to give them a thematic continuity and give them all red or blonde hair). Later I’ll collect them as actual Dunlending. Be surprising
August 24, 2010 at 6:32 pm #11568Oh, boy, buy two and use one as the basis for the Council of Elrond!
, looks the bizz! I love the way the figures are designed to interact with each other, it looks like the ‘real’ deal.
August 24, 2010 at 6:38 pm #11569The Man at his unquestionable best. Superb!

August 24, 2010 at 8:07 pm #11576The Man at his unquestionable best . . . as to quote Master Barli.
This vignette is surpasing all expectations . . .

And I agree to David, the poses are sooo amazingly dynamic, wonderful. I can just hear the discussion.
August 24, 2010 at 9:30 pm #11579Huooooooommmmm … so now it’s also up to me to say that all that was said before about that council-vignette is exactly what I think and feel about it ….. hom
August 25, 2010 at 3:32 am #11582What more can be said . . . amazing.
