If I need a white man or woman to fit a role for something I still can use make up to make the skin lighter if need be. It’s probably more to the point that this guy didn’t like where she was originated from. To me she also don’t seem to have a DARK skin colour. But what can you do, shit happens!
November 30, 2010 at 1:44 pm #13691Ah but I agree!
November 30, 2010 at 2:01 pm #13693Puuh, the people around here have so many to say, that I get thirsty more often while reading.
And our barkeep is away!
What does that mean?!
Let´s go downstairs and have a look what´s beyond that mystical door.
Maybe a caucasian woman . . . ?
Maybe that famous barrel of finest red wine . . . ?November 30, 2010 at 2:13 pm #13694Ups… I thought I was the only one who had a second key for the mystical door… Welcome Master Archer!
Take a seat and try this fine wine…:D:D
November 30, 2010 at 4:00 pm #13697I already do, hicks . . .
Let´s open that green bottle over there . . .November 30, 2010 at 5:02 pm #13698Huuuooooooooooommmmmmmmmmm !!!! … Gentlemen, please … didn’t you hear what Master Barliman said? … huoommm … didn’t you listen? …
huoomm …. besides, have a nice holiday down there Master Barliman, enjoy … huoommNow back to you fellers, Master Barliman put poor me in charge of the bar, right? …. rhuoommm… so from now on that trapdoor behind the bar leading downstairs definitely is locked …. huoomm … as I’m standing on it … grruoommm … as there has been enough cheating on that Goldy Board recently, it’s not fair to carry on with that misbehaviour here in the Pony …. rhuom …. right? … so I’m awaiting them coiny things from you for those by now empty bottles … huoommm

Besides, some genetical explanation about skin color is usually related to the climat and geography, dark skinned would come from the south, in arid countries… Hobbits are from the north west of Endor, no human ethnies here are dark skinned….Hmmnn! Agreed Gildor, Keep racism out, but do not bow to modern political correctness  just because it rears its ugly head once more! Hobbits were not black, end of!
And I agree, the lady in question is not too dark for my opinion.Has anyone received a new password for the GF forum yet?
And if you ain’t gone yet Barli, have a good time

November 30, 2010 at 10:28 pm #13703well… to change topic…
master Barliman, I think You owe me some drinks… I just paid this year’s bill for the Pony… your licence is renewed for another year, cheers!
November 30, 2010 at 10:37 pm #13704This is salving to know, Master Elf. May I join you having those drinks, hicks . . .
Your enthusiasm is honourable ! I pay for this round!December 1, 2010 at 6:57 am #13705o.k. folk,
seems some humans really do not have humour or, like the journalist completely misunderstood this “case”. It was just an idea of a female scientist to go to the casting and created a facebook group against racism in middle earth movies (especially in the shire!!) JUST FOR FUN!! But because this journalist as well as many other media agents got the scent of a good story took this seriously. How much political correctness do we need, guys?
Hobbits an Men are living in here at Bree and in the Pony peacefully as well as together with Elves, Ents, dwarves and other nice folk.
So what’s up?For german speaking ones you can find good information on this website (this network is very very close to the moviemakers and good sources): http://www.herr-der-ringe-film.de/v3/de/news/tolkienfilme/news_59904.php
December 1, 2010 at 8:27 am #13706mmhh not all harfoots are dark skinned master tom
the Gamegee family was from the Harfoot ethny, IIRC. anyway, as some tolkien experts said, none of the three ethnies could be brown or black skinned due to their geographical origins. Besides, Tolkien only says that Southrons were “dark skinned” but without further details, and dark can exist in several distinctions…. from medium tan to deep brown… for fair skin people, even a heavily sun-tanned person is “dark skinned”…
Besides there is the matter of cinematographic continuity… PJ has put some standards on the LOTR trilogy… it would be odd for him to change visual standards in a PREQUEL to LOTR…. I admit that if it was a sequel anything could happen (lol) but in a prequel…
December 1, 2010 at 8:51 am #13707Thank you Master Estel! It is very interesting how information is changed from one country to another one. But I believe we are lied at by the media all the time anyway. So this story is not really a surprise!

Actually, truth be told, the hand of the Witchking has been at work and he has drawn the icy cold of the North as far south as the village of Gatwick, and the flying thingies ain’t flying. And won’t be, for sufficiently long that Mrs B and I decided to cancel our travels and grab the offer of a full refund with both hands. So no financial loss, but no skin-tan gain.
And as for Hobbits and racism, what a load of tosh. It’s an accusation that’s been made before by such little minds as have never read the books properly – or at all – and know sufficiently little of their subject that they spout such drivel to generate a few bob (that’s small money to you colonial types – i.e., non-Bree folk) by taking cheap shots at cultural icons.
As you can see, I still need a holiday….

OOps, I didn’t read to the end of the newsletter where I found it
, many thanks though Master Turambar.
December 1, 2010 at 10:45 pm #13718Mmmh, sorry to hear that, Master Barliman. I hope there will be an other occasion to take these flying thingies . . .
December 2, 2010 at 4:25 pm #13729Huooommmm … despite you personal disappointment and lack of holidays, Master Barliman, it’s good to have you back here again … rhuoommm … I never trusted them non-flying thingies myself … huoomm … and besides, what do you need a skin-tan for in Bree? … huoomm ?
December 2, 2010 at 4:49 pm #13730Thank you for your kind commiserations, Master Archer and Master Tree, much appreciated. I’m certainly glad that we didn’t take the option of a later flight, because the flying thingies still aren’t (if you see what I mean). And anyway, it’s always good to get my own slippers back on and sit back by my own hearth with a jug of my own good ale. That soothes many disappointments.
December 2, 2010 at 6:50 pm #13731Huoommm … that’s the way to cope with it … huoomm … and sometimes it feels better than having a weirdly-decorated-so-called-drink elsewhere while also having to soothe a skin-tan-sun-burned thing …. rhuooommm …
see, 2701st entry by me, tree … rhuoommm … so I think I might have another free bowl of that you-know-what … cheerioh, Master Barliman …December 2, 2010 at 6:50 pm #13732Now is a good time to snuggle up to the fire with apple ginger cider.
