Huuooommmm … Master Thingol, you just have to remember that song of the Dwarves at Bilbo’s place before they all took up a challenge … rhuoommm … it was about a road, I think, and wasn’t it when all began? … huoommm …. but you Hobbits know,of course … huoommrhuoom …
July 3, 2011 at 12:28 pm #18369Huoommm …. rhuoommm …. as there’s nothing much around here, Master Barliman, would you fill me bowl with that clear-clean-non-sparkeling-you-know-what-liquid, please … huoomm … ahh, yes, Sunday it is you say …. rhuoommm … so kitchen’s closed again after mid-day … rhuommm … well, may I have a basket-meal with the left-overs from Saturday, please … rhuoommm … Yes, I know, no cuttlery, of course … rhuoommm … a napkin will do … hoommm … and would you top up that bowl, please … rhuoommm … that’s fine, thank you very much …. did I ever tell you that the Pony has ever been a nice place to take a rest ? … huomm
July 3, 2011 at 1:32 pm #18371No, I don’t think you did, but you’re right of course. It’s the perfect place to sit in the yard on a day like today, with the sun out and a light breeze to take the edge off the heat. I think I’ll take a nap on the pew outside the kithcen door – that corner always traps the sun. And I expect that, as usual, Bob’s cat will come and sleep on my chest. Mind you, he usually rolls off after a while – the gradient of my belly presents a bit of a challenge to a cat that’s even fatter than I am.
July 3, 2011 at 2:01 pm #18373Huoommm … well, yes, cats are a different matter indeed … mine still try to catch butterflies … rhuoommm … strange creatures they are … rhuoomm … todommm ..
July 3, 2011 at 5:00 pm #18374Bob’s cat chases sticks, falls of walls, snores louder than Mrs B., and can’t keep his balance even when he’s sober. There are times when I think that he may actually be a reincarnated dog who got lost on the way to his new body. But he’s good company, and makes us smile.
July 3, 2011 at 5:06 pm #18375Huoommm … nothing much around here … huomm … so I would like to get back to the topic Master Ddaines brought up … huoomm … he asked about how to put the two sides … this wasn’t any kind of battle, it simply was what we nowadays call guarilla warfare … rhuoommm … so those three legions, including all people and stuff that went along with them had no choice …
on the right were those swamps and on the left there was this fortified forest … huoomm … attacked from the rear they had no other chance to go forward to grounds that had not been scouted precisely … rhuoommm … seven days of permanent attacks wore them down … bit by bit … hoommm … we trees didn’t interfere then, just stood together …. then there was the only idea of attacking higher, and well prepared ground, which, of course is senseless … see …

huoomm … doesn’t make sense, does it … just means they were doomed … rhuommm …
I shouldn’t forget that the person called Arminius was a Cheruskian gentle, brought up in Rome and learned about warfare in the Roman Army … rhuoommm …July 3, 2011 at 6:03 pm #18377Ah, another interesting picture Master Tree, thank you, it gives me more ‘food for thought’
July 3, 2011 at 7:08 pm #18381Do you want more pics, Master ddaines? These are a diorama of a friend of another of my hobbies. Although they are slightly larger: 7.5 cm

Daleko preko Maglenog gorja pod snijegom,

Far over the misty mountains cold,
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere the break of day,
To seek the pale enchanted gold. The dwarves of yore made mighty spells,
While hammers fell like ringing bells
In places deep, where dark things sleep,
In hollow halls beneath the fells. For ancient kings and elvish lord
There many a gleaming golden hoard
They shaped and wrought, and light they caught,
To hide in gems on hilt of sword. On silver necklaces they strung
The flowering stars, on crowns they hung
The dragon-fire, in twisted wire
They meshed the light and moon and sun.For over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old,
We must away ere break of day,
To claim our long-forgotten gold.Goblets they carved there for themselves
And harps of gold; where no man delves
There lay they lay long, and many a song
Was sung unheard by man or elves. The pines were roaring on the height,
The winds were moaning in the night.
The fire was red, it flaming spread;
Laid low like torches blazed with light. The bells were ringing in the dale,
And men looked up with faces pale,
Then dragon’s ire more fierce than fire
Laid low their towers and houses frail.The mountains smoked beneath the moon;
The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom.
They fled their hall to dying fall
Beneath his feet, beneath the moon. For over misty mountains grim
To dungeons deep and caverns dim
We must away ere break of day,
To win our harps and gold from him!And for ending of first hobbit great adventure….
Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea;
Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains in the moon.
Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known.I like this very much !

July 3, 2011 at 8:38 pm #18392Well, maybe we are diverting some of the subject (at least, I have changed “lead” with “plastic”)
July 3, 2011 at 9:08 pm #18394Great… and one drink pleas Master innkeeper for…. dear (around 40 years old mithril child) Master Erchamion…
July 3, 2011 at 9:13 pm #18397You realise that the scrumpy is getting to your brains, don’t you? I’m not sure that any of you are quite as sane as you were when you first entered this establisment. Still, it’s a good way to go…
July 4, 2011 at 5:09 am #18403Thingol, I like the Croatian language, it flows nicely and a full translation of the poem would be nice!

Osluhni sad! Udar malja poput zvona sred tišine
U podzemlju još se čuje, gdje neman i sada ruje
U dvorima našim praznim, podno samotne planine.Carevima drevnog doba, Vilinkralju sad bez traga,
U prašini leže same, nepjevane pjesme mame
Da ih barem jednom čuju uši ljudi, vilenjaka.Zato preko Maglenog gorja pod snijegom,
Duboko pod zemlju u spilju pod brijegom
Moramo krenuti još za mraka, prije prvih sunčevih zraka,
Po nasljedstvo staro, pod predaka stijegom!Svi borovi plamte u vrhu gore,
A noćnik ječi zli snovi ga more
U jaru piri, dok požar se širi
A stabla šumom ko buktinje gore.U Dôlju zvono na uzbunu budi
Blijedih se lica zgledaju ljudi
Jer zmajev je bijes ko največi krijes
I kuće i kule vatri on nudi.U dimu bje Gora pod mjesečinom
U bijegu patuljci pred sudbinom
U naručje smrti, niz strme vrleti,
Pod pandžama zmaja, pod mjesečinom.Stog preko Maglenog gorja pod snijegom
Duboko pod zemlju u spilju pod brijegom
Moramo krenuti još za mraka, prije prvih sunčevih zraka
Po harfe naše, za zmajevim plijenom.July 4, 2011 at 6:42 am #18407and yes ! … beers for three of us… ( for me, Twirch… and one for you ) please ! … Master Innkeeper… and no scrumpy…… please… again ! …
July 4, 2011 at 6:58 am #18408I’m sorry that you don’t want scrumpy, but at least I can sell it off as battery acid if no one wants to drink it. It’s also pretty effective as a paint-stripper.
