I’m always happy to start a new rumour, Master Tree – we get so few of them that have any merit or meaning. And I thought it might help people to understand why those long-awaited Easterlings must remain awaited for a while longer yet, and at the same time it will hopefully cheer them up to know that there is something new on the way very soon (‘soon’ being relative, of course, where Mithril are concerned…).
Those of us who don’t live as long as Ents have cause to be hasty sometimes, alas! But I notice you always seem to drink your bowls of, er, water rather fast…
November 26, 2008 at 1:04 pm #3652Huoommm …. I meant no offence concerning your rumours, Master Barliman, … huom … though they rather seem to be incomplete facts …. rhuoomm … you know that I always value a good rumour …. hoooommm …
As for my drinking habits I might explain that my throat is a bit wider than the rim of your bowls, meseems …. huommm … so it’s rather more a matter of diameter than of haste …… huuooooommmmm … homNovember 26, 2008 at 1:59 pm #3653twrich wrote:A throat clearing noise comes from a darkened corner: “Nob? Another ale please.” And then a chuckle before a pipe is lit to briefly reveal a stern and weathered, but somehow empathetic, face. What does the Ranger smoke in that pipe anyway? Does anyone know? (I have my suspicions, especially when he chuckles like that.)
Oh, by the way, the reason for no Salute Mithril next year is simply that John Treadaway is no longer in charge of the show’s organisation. Shame.
November 27, 2008 at 7:05 am #3661Why, Barli, it is long-bottom leaf of course. And you should know, as Nob was the one who sold me a bag of it from your stores! And at a rather hefty price, I might add; certainly more expensive (not that you charge him full price) than a dozen bowls of that spiced water you’ve been selling to our Master Ent!
On another note, I find the best rumours lately to come from the east.
November 27, 2008 at 8:25 am #3662I’ve been meaning to have a word with that scallywag Nob about the interesting plants he’s been growing out in the back of the yard…
November 29, 2008 at 11:12 pm #3676Master Caster if you act in haste there are more Dwarves to command from the Man!
November 30, 2008 at 6:58 am #3678Regalrick is right – four more are still available as I write this:

Good luck!
November 30, 2008 at 9:15 am #3681Only 3 left!
Thanks for the email Rick!December 1, 2008 at 3:02 pm #3692Huoommmmm …. my dwarves arrived today …. huom … they’re really very nice tiny things …. rhuooommm …. but Master Gildor will be disappointed as this time there are no subreferences at all ….. hommm … The Man just wrote on the small package “346 B” …. that’s all …. hom
December 1, 2008 at 4:54 pm #3693when no reference exist it’s up to us to create them… if you think of ideas for them just mention them and I’ll submit them to the Man for acceptation to be put in the database
December 1, 2008 at 5:14 pm #3694Rhuooommm … The Dwarven command was A,B and C, I think … so why not continue with D1 to D4 for the four bodyguards …. huommm … but who is who? …. there are two identical poses with two figures each …. the details of each figure (e.g. garment and armour) are all different, of course ….. huoommmm …. it’s not me to decide, Master Gildor.
December 1, 2008 at 6:59 pm #3695I’ll wait for my set to arrive then I have not received it yet
December 1, 2008 at 11:27 pm #3696Well done Wendy, drinks all round then?
December 2, 2008 at 3:26 am #3697Yes, sir.
I’m looking for pictures of thrushes and collecting all the relevant quotes to send. I figure I can at least try to save Mr. Tubb a little time.
December 2, 2008 at 7:33 am #3702It should be an excellent figure. I liked the idea from the moment you first proposed it, and I shall look forward to seeing it sculpted.
I shouldn’t think Chris will need a picture of a thrush – they’re pretty common in this part of the world. The challenge with the thrush will be painting it – especially as the plumage colours JRRT describes are rare.
December 2, 2008 at 11:39 am #3703Hey, just got the newsletter, and am delighted to see we’ll be seeing a Sharkey after all (as the Xmas figure), even though he never won a Fellowship poll. The scale isn’t stated, but he looks like a 28mm rather than a 54.
December 2, 2008 at 12:46 pm #3704Excellent figure!
I fear that from Thranduil all the Christmas figures will be 28mm ….:rolleyes:December 2, 2008 at 1:00 pm #3705Huuoooommmm … I do agree about that Sharkey figure … huom … and I’m afraid you will be right concerning the size of further Christmas figures, Master Erchamion …. huom … on the other hand I’m glad that this tradition seems to be continued …
Rhuooommmm … sorry, I nearly forgot to add my congratulations for your winning-suggestion, Mistress Wendy …. huom … that thrush with a bowman …December 2, 2008 at 2:11 pm #3706Barliman wrote:It should be an excellent figure. It does say the thrush was unusually large, specifically described as “enormous”, so that will help a bit for the painting. Black with yellow front and black spots will be a nice little challenge.
It’s just a whole lot easier to sculpt something from a picture than memory (or waiting for a thrush to hop by the window ). Who knows? He might have a birding book close at hand.
Sharkey’s looking to be a really nice fig.
Another round for all! I better pay for it now. I’m putting in an order at Mithril soon and won’t have much money after that.
December 2, 2008 at 2:48 pm #3707Know what you mean… I placed an order last week for three Fellowship figs, and now can’t afford to buy any Xmas presents for anyone (I’m jesting). They work out pretty expensive now that the pound has collapsed against the euro…
