How do you know it’s Ramases III – did you lick him as well?
I shan’t be buying him anyway, I’m afraid – the costume doesn’t fit with my personal mental picture of how Numenorean kings might have looked (and yes, I know that JRRT himself intimated that he saw Numenor as culturally similar to Ancient Egypt; I’ve just never been able to fit the idea into my own Middle-earth ‘world-picture’).
William, however, I’ll probably buy once I’ve rustled up a bit of cash.
Your drink is on the bar, Master Tree. (By the way, as a tree and therefore, by definition, a vegetarian, how do you know what mutton tastes like?)
January 23, 2009 at 2:44 pm #4205It would make more sense for a tree to eat mutton than vegetables – might be a distant cousin and all…
January 23, 2009 at 4:16 pm #4206Rhuooommmmm …. first of all I never did lick any of those Ramesseses neither the first nor the second one … huoommm … I in fact kept apart from those beings … hom …. as for Númenor being similar to Ancient Egypt (concerning sources JRRT used or referred to) I do completely understand your inability to fit that culture into a Middle-Earth picture, Master Barliman ….. hom .
Same with me, by the way …. rhuooommm … so your personal mental picture about Númenorians might still be right, meseems …… homhomhom … as for the muttonny-taste …. hom … that’s a good one, Master Barliman …. hom … so, well … alas … huooommm … well, sometimes … you know … or … well … hum … let’s say a good-old roasted mutton is far more better than what we had to chew up at Helm’s Deep … rhuommm … that’s why I strictly keep to clear clean water for quite a while now …. and no vegetables … huooommm .. here Mistress Wendy is perfectly right …. huooommmJanuary 23, 2009 at 4:25 pm #4207Huooommmmm …. I do hope someone can help me about that disgusted smily in Willi’s back pocket …. huom … it’s too large being a coin … hom … maybe The Man was just jesting … huoom.
January 23, 2009 at 4:25 pm #4208I’ve heard from customers who like my economy burgers-in-a-bun that Orc tastes rather like barbecued chicken.
January 23, 2009 at 4:36 pm #4209Huoommmm …. clear clean water, please, Master Barliman … just a drop … as I definitely cannot stay that long until those burgers are being burnt or them chickens are being caught and … huoommm … you know … rhuoommm … more serious matters are awaiting my presence … hom …
January 23, 2009 at 7:03 pm #4210Master Ent, it is the Troll’s purse!!! I specifically asked for it, lol, but can’t for the life of me remember if it is indeed William that has the purse (well the book is not at hand). Smiley indeed
Strange how some minds think alike – I too thought ancient Egypt, though no specific Pharoah.
January 23, 2009 at 8:12 pm #4211Rhuooommm … a purse reading … huoommm … that one in is Willi’s back pocket … rhuoomm … so this once again proves that The Man is able to sculpt your humour, Master Ddaines … huomm … though just in details … rhuoomm … but it pleases very much, doesn’t it?
That’s Chris … Master Ddaines .. he’s serious about details though you yourself might not remember … rhuooommmAs for them pharoahs I just chose to call the figure Ramses III, because until now there has been no Ramses III, as far as I know … might be the first one appearing in 2009 … rhuoomm.
January 25, 2009 at 2:49 am #4212And…
I see Peder Hammarskiold’s excellent Mithril resource, Shaping Middle Earth, has come back.
The link is here:

January 25, 2009 at 7:42 am #4214Hey, that’s a fun site. I wasn’t aware of it before – too many long hours behind the bar and too little spare time…
January 25, 2009 at 9:29 am #4215Huoommmmm …. he also did some nice conversions …. hom
January 25, 2009 at 10:40 am #4216Beatiful recreation of the Laketown!. And all very well documented ….
Gavin, thanks for showing us the link
January 25, 2009 at 2:47 pm #4217I found the site way back when, when I was trying to figure out if I wanted to start collecting Mithrils again. It’s where I got the washers-as-wargaming-base idea that I use so much.
The site hasn’t been updated since it was taken down, but its still worth seeing. I love the Mirkwood river scene and the Laketown paint schemes. If you follow the links, there’s a page by a guy called “Orclord” (I think) who has some cool battle report shots of a defending the Shire scenario.

January 25, 2009 at 2:56 pm #4218Rhuooommmm …. “Orclord” also provides a catalogue of pictures of Mithril series (painted figures) … hom.
January 25, 2009 at 6:13 pm #4219yeah I have orclord site in my bookmarks, but it is quite incomplete… it was a good reference guide though
January 25, 2009 at 7:37 pm #4220very nice site,
Orclord may be one of those guys running the stuff of legends website.
Inspiring minis website!!January 25, 2009 at 7:44 pm #4221Rhuoommm … incomplete, yes and many of the pics are not of the quality you provide in your gallery, Master Gildor …. huooommm … all in all quite useful they are I thought … rhuoommm … hom … do you have contact to good old Hammarskiold by the way? … rhuoommm … might read ‘Hammer-shield’ in the language you prefer to use … hom … n’est pas? …
January 25, 2009 at 9:38 pm #4224. . .you all talk about the orclord-site, fellows. You forget to praise the material of Mr. Hammerskiold. Certainly, I will do this ! You have to know that the magnificent Moria diorama is the reason, why I decide to paint and build dioramas, not collecting anymore . . . somwhere- more than a decade ago . . . in the mists of time . . . when I was young . . . and my hair was black  I think, I have to told him this.
But serious speeking: I have been waited for years concerning opening this webside of Peder Hammarskjöld.
Thank you Gavin for this information, and fellows: have a closer look at the Moria scene . . .January 25, 2009 at 9:47 pm #4227Oh by the way . . . did you recognized a little detail ? On Peders webside you find the scene: “Alatar among the Easterling”. Is anybody able to put the two wolves in the right context? I suppose they are from thunderboltmountain, but they aren´t. I think.
January 25, 2009 at 11:08 pm #4229Rhuoommm … good old Hammer-shield has always been someone to produce perfect dioramas … huooommm … I especially like the “Raft-elves” and the “Alatar”-diorama. The last one still keeps me breathless, as I’ve never seen it before …. rhuooommm … well, about those wolves you might have a look at Pedder’s ‘Winter Scenario’ …. rhuoommhom there are more wolves …. hom
