So am I now – what’s a PM2? Or am I just being characteristically dumb?
February 11, 2009 at 10:27 am #4349The PM2 is a new brand of beer …..
I know your ´difficulty` in speaking on this subject, Master Barli. I just want to know something about the possible release date …..February 11, 2009 at 11:34 am #4351I wish the new brand of beer will be released soon… 😆
February 11, 2009 at 2:08 pm #4354The rumour had it that the next Phaeton Miniatures (PM, geddit) release will be the Seven Fathers of the Dwarves cowering under the Vala’s hammer.
Gavin
February 11, 2009 at 2:39 pm #4355..But called something entirely innocent, such as Odin and the Seven Dwarves, presumably? (OK, PM = Phaeton Miniatures, I get it now. I did suggest that I was perhaps being dumb. I’m an innkeeper of very little brain, remember.)
February 11, 2009 at 8:59 pm #4357I’m glad you asked the question Barli
February 11, 2009 at 10:48 pm #4358well Gavin I had given away this information already… under cover… the vignette bears the name “Creator and Destroyer of Dwarves”… so we can assume it is what we think it is
February 12, 2009 at 8:03 am #4359A voice from a dark, yet newly painted–wow, those are strong fumes–corner says: “They are who we thought they were!”
February 12, 2009 at 9:26 am #4360Very cryptic. Readers’ Digest has a page for people like you. Glad you like the fumes, by the way. Shame about the colours, though. ‘Dead Orc’ is all that the local store had in sufficient quantity for a project the size of the Pony.
February 14, 2009 at 11:39 am #4361Huooommmrhuommm … so re-decorating your premises again seems to have been almost finished, Master Barliman … huoomm … you obviously even did not forget to colour the Man in the Dark appropriately … rhuoomm … well, as I see, Nob’s complexion is a bit different by now … rhuooommhom … though that ‘Dead Orc’-colour all around here seems to be a bit boring to me … rhuoommm … I know it was the cheapest colour you could afford to buy because of the decleaning profit you make from the Pony … rhuoomm … alas .. the only thing I can do is to take out them furry doormats to clean them from that spilled colour …
Huoommm … just to answer the riddle here: PM2 is two o’clock … rhuoommmFebruary 14, 2009 at 11:50 am #4362That’s ‘decreasing profit’ from the Pony, Master Tree, ‘decreasing’ – not ‘decleaning’. Thanks for taking care of the wargskin rugs, though – you’re the only one in here that can put up with the bites.
On another issue entirely, what colour do any of my regulars think I should paint my Mithril Gollum figure? JRRT is very ambiguous on the subject, and seems to constantly fluctuate between dark/black and pale/white in his descriptions of Slinker/Stinker.
February 14, 2009 at 2:30 pm #4363I suppose it depends on the lighting…
February 14, 2009 at 3:50 pm #4364Rhuoommm … for those Gollums I have painted so far I preferred the idea of giving him a dark appearance … huommm … the pale/white one you mentioned, Master Barliman, reminds me too much of the slimy-fishy appearance Gollum has in the movies …. rhuoommm …
For that darkish colour of skin I used “Revell Colour Nr 78 matt” (‘Panzergrau’) as a first basic coating. . ….. rhuoommm … then you can highlight or downlight details and give them eyes some perfect expression using a pure white ….
huoommmm … I think Mistress Wendy, our slowest painter, is right ….. huom … it depends a lot on the situation good old Gollum is in …. is he cheating with Kankra? … is he trying to solve riddles in the dark? … is he simply carrying a fish? …. rhuoommm …
All in all you’re right to put this question, Master Barliman. … It’s difficult to answer, though I tried to from my point of view … hom … I twice had a similar problem about how to paint Saruman’s cloak according to Master Tolkien’s desciptions …. huuuoommm ….Rhuuoommm… On that other matter you’re right, Master Barliman, as you’re well known to have a close look at the language being used in the Pony ….. but “decleaning” simply means “to make it worse” by cleaning … rhuoomm … it depends … rhuoomm … I was using the word because of the connotation to the word ‘decline’ and finding an ambiguity to the the meaning of the word in the sentence I used …. rhuoomm … I just wanted to tell you what I think about your decreasing profit because of that decleaning …. huoommm …. so to say …
February 14, 2009 at 10:52 pm #4365Well here are 3 entries from the internal inconsistency department for the color of Gollum. I could never settle on a good choice! If I do, I’ll share…[imgz url=http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/21_testshots_009.jpg]http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/thumbs/21_testshots_009.jpg[/imgz]
February 15, 2009 at 12:04 am #4366ah, you mean the: I.I.D.G !
Well, that some issues will find such quick solutions really cheers me up.February 16, 2009 at 11:53 pm #4368ahem, Master Barliman, where are all those people ?
Even the Wisest of Ents is holding himself apart. That really makes me wonder.
I came to the conclusion that it seems, that all those people have had a little bit too much of this, what is it called…srumpy-stuff…!?
They seem to sleep off ! Missing important things, like the three wonderful fellowship releases actually . . .
Hope this won´t be an intoxication!February 17, 2009 at 12:58 pm #4374actually I decided to work a bit on the site today so while others sleep, I am putting things in order, somehow
February 17, 2009 at 3:08 pm #4375The gallery is again a wonderful job, Gildor. Especially the little note of the figures´ identification on the bottom is brilliant ! Good to have you !
February 17, 2009 at 3:26 pm #4377Sorry to have neglected to comment on the answers to my earlier query regarding Gollum’s colour, but the dratted ‘subscription to this topic’ device clearly isn’t working again – this keeps happening, and I’ve no idea why. I shall have to start just checking in all the rooms occasionally instead, but it’s a bit hard on the old shoe-leather!
Anyway, thanks for the comments. Clearly no one has any better idea than I have – though I like Ken’s solution of painting his various Gollum figures in various shades so that at least one of therm stands some chance of being right, regardless of lighting conditions! Bearing in mind that Gollum/Smeagol was originally a hobbit himself, I guess he should really be the same colour as other hobbits, albeit perhaps rather paler since he never gets a suntan. Ergo, I suppose he should be light/pale rather than black/dark.
February 17, 2009 at 9:21 pm #4382Huoooommmm …. Master Gildor has decided to work “a bit” on this site … rhuomm … quite a lot I would rather say … hom … well done again … the galleries have been filled and updated nicely … huooooommm … that’s what’s so strange about them Elves … huomm … you don’t hear them, rarely see them but they’re working, if this ambiguity is allowed here … rhuommm
