No Brandy, Master rita.de, better ´Xerez` which is the name of Spanish origin…

I like the new characters. I don´t understand, as there is still much to learn from Tolkien, we “console” to have five or six Witch-king figures. Bombur can be a great figure, no doubt, but perhaps we are all waiting for this whole serie about Bilbo and the dwarves. Durin or Narvi perhaps have a little easier in a vote GF.
I believe that a king of Moria fighting (and dying) versus Balrog can be a great figure, too. However, it is a dwarf and I love the dwarves (is it because they are great companions on the Prancing Pony?)

Gildor, the topic of Juegos sin Fronteras is a thorn that I nailed. I have to get that picture. Call again …..
February 24, 2009 at 6:11 pm #4494Huooommm … yes … huoommmrhuoomm … many of you are right from your points of view, methinks … hom … I do like your statement very much, Master Erchamion, about having five or six ‘Witch-Kings’ (in fact there are more than that meseems) … rhuoommm … contrasted to a nameless figure as the the Lossoth hunter, the Knight of Arnor and his counterpart, the Hillman King and some others (or does anybody around here remember the name of the Corsair Admiral ? … houmrhuommm I doubt that … rhuoommm … all of them MS-figures have been voted for and won … rhuoommm … and and I am very pleased to say here that I’m glad about it … rrrrrrhuooommm … here I share Master Gildor’s attitude …. huommm … I do buy them anyway because of the quality of the figures referring to JRR Tolkien’s works and concepts that meet my imigination perfectly … huooommm … ! …. rhuoommmm …
Master Barliman, I have to calm down a bit … huom … so if you please can hand over a bowl of that youknowwhat … huoomm …February 24, 2009 at 7:49 pm #4497Rhuoommm …. sorry, but a further statement from me seems to be necessary …
I will never suggest something like a “female orc” again … huoomm … though I enjoyed the first discussion about it very much …. hom … (it still can be re-read here) … why not let some humour let have it’s place at the GF-suggestions ….. rhuom … nobody did criticize the appearance of M391 (Travelling alchemist) because he wasn’t a named character … (though he was, methinks) … Hundin’s shape of body was never criticized, as far as I know … rhooommm …
Rhuuoommmm … let me try to explain, please. There are many of us who are trying to build up most powerful armies according to their imagination of Tolkien’s writings. I really enjoy looking at pictures of that kind (in case they’re provided). There’s a wonderful match of people here doing that perfectly. … Rhuoomm. Very nice individual conversions contribute to this very much …
Huoommm … then there are those talented ‘diorama-builders’ concentrating on a single scene … huoommm rhuoommm … using everything to make it appear real … huoommm … backgrounds, all those single details added and perfectly put into those scenes …. rhuoommm …
rhuoommm … then there’s just those ‘poor ones’ left who just collect … rhuoommm such as me … huoomm … I still do enjoy …. rhuoommmm … let’s just keep it alive, friends and don’t hassle about everything that’s not worth it to become worried about … rhuoommm … though I have to state that good old Môrlas (Prince of squirrels) would have never seen the light if the Gate of Moria could have been casted … rhuoommm …
I know, Master Barliman, once again I was a little bit too talkative … rhuommm … I just wanted to comment on some certain matters …. hom … oh, by the by, could you please have a mark for this bowl on your tab, please … mine seems to to leave not that much space any more rhuoomm … and top it up, please? … huoommm … the bowl, not the tap … gruuuoommm
February 25, 2009 at 12:39 am #4502Indeed, Master Tree.
I would like Mithril to become rich beyond its wildest Cork dreams. But failing that I would like Mithril to survive and thrive. I do recognise that the voting process produces some odd results. Collectible oddities beat more populist choices; named characters often beat non named. And sometimes these results are reversed.
It makes it hard to plan a collection on any lines beyond “getting the numbers.”
But the results are so worth the various vexations of it all. Halbarad, the Lossoth Hunter, Eorl, the Female Ranger, Helm and the King of the Dead are some of the best miniatures ever made by anyone, ever.
So…I’m in, for now.
Gavin
February 25, 2009 at 7:32 am #4503All fair and valid comments. But of course, they reflect individual tastes – as do other people’s comments earlier. My OWN preference would be to only see figures of individuals who have a genuine basis in JRRT canon – they don’t need to be named, but they should at least be implied.
On this basis the Orc female qualifies (as I’ve said before, JRRT confirms the existence of female Orcs in his assorted notes and scribblings), but the ‘female assassin of Dol Amroth’ (sorry, but I shudder even as I type the phrase, it’s so non-JRRT!) does not, nor ever will. I repeat, this is my own very personal view, and if people want to vote for such figures they have every right to do so.
But the real puzzle to me is why such non-existant characters get suggested at all while there are so many scenes, peoples and named individuals from the books that remain unrepresented.
I know, I’m a sad, boring, old-fashioned purist. But I’m the one that pours the drinks…
February 25, 2009 at 9:24 am #4504More we need to ask, why there are so many votes for this kind of figures Barliman (and others) do not like. Or is it just, that assassins and orc girlies have 1 vote more in round one?
I sometimes ask myself, who are the GF-members, and it is this question, which makes it so difficult for Mithril to become real rich people. Yes, tastes are personal and some of us buy almost everything C.T. is designing as I do, but some prefer armies, others dioramas, some like roleplaying characters and so on…Master Barliman, I need a drink, some strong ale to support your house and my mind!
February 25, 2009 at 9:41 am #4505Thats the man! Please pour me a nice drink Master Barliman.
I like the idea of a female orc made by Chris very much and I’m sure that she never would be done in a M release.
That’s the reason why I will vote for this “girl”. I’m sure there are few more gold members who will do exactly the same! D:D:D:D Master Theobald
:D:D have a a bowl of whatever on my tab and please put that nice smile back on!February 25, 2009 at 1:15 pm #4508ahem … rhuooommm …. sorry …. hom … yes, of course, Master Caster

thank you for reminding me to do that … huooommmFebruary 25, 2009 at 1:42 pm #4509Offer the Ent of a bowl of whatever’s on tap too.
Because the Ent is a perfect gentleman. Who shall be receiving some maple syrup (from no one he is related to, fortunately) and other goodies from Canada in the none too distant future.
February 25, 2009 at 2:25 pm #4512Now that looks more like it. Shining even without the christmas lights. Very good Master Ent.
What is this b@#$!y fur ball doing in my drink? Could I please have a fresh one? Yes please another one for Master Theobald too. Thanks!February 25, 2009 at 2:55 pm #4513Pass yours to Bob’s cat, if you please, Master Caster – he’s obviously already taken a liking to it.
By the way, on an entirely different topic, has anyone else noticed that a “new” Tolkien book is being published in a couple of months? – “The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun”, described as “a thorough reworking in verse of old Norse epics”. It was apparently written in the 1920s and 1930s.
Verse. Hmm. Some of Master JRRT’s verse I can cope with, but some I can’t. I shall have to wait and see which variety this turns out to be.
February 25, 2009 at 3:38 pm #4514Well, we already have a lot of the Siugurd story – as Turin’s tale.
Tolkien’s translations/reworkings are what he’d be remembered for if he hadn’t scrawled that note about “in a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.” There’s a Beowulf version ready to go – there’s some legal issue about it though. His Gawain and the Green Knight is one of the essential translations of the work. Hell, people often complain about the weird rhythm and style of his fantasy fiction: it’s pretty much the same rhythm of his translated Germanic poemy things. Lord of the Rings reads like some mutant Icelandic saga.
So, all in all, it should be worth taking a gander at.
Gavin
February 25, 2009 at 8:04 pm #4516I could live with the female orc (in my collection I hastily add) as my own view is that they probably bred in much the same way as other races and it would be interesting to see how Chris sculpts this suggestion if it wins.
February 25, 2009 at 8:30 pm #4518Huoommm … thank you all, gents … rhuoommm … I have to leave these premises for a while now …. huommm … trying to find a short rest before I have to let them leaves spring up again to produce more sprigs in the coming spring … rhuoommm … hom
February 25, 2009 at 9:10 pm #4519I dunno, running off (well, stalking off, if you’ll forgive the pun) without paying his tab, as usual…
February 27, 2009 at 10:01 am #4522Well now I fell better after voting and I really begin to like the suggestion of Durin, as he is a named character and maybe the first single dwarf in the GF-range.
Being royal, this is quite a good starting for other dwarves like Bombur or maybe a boxed set of M-XY ‘the 13 dwarven travellers” or something like that. The drink was quite good, but it caused a headache, it may also be the weather change in my country.
February 27, 2009 at 10:28 am #4523No, the headache just means I need to put a bit more rat in the mix.
As for Durin, it’s still too early to be sure that he will come out on top in the poll. I hope he does, but there probably remain about 20 regular voters who have yet to commit themselves – if they vote at all, that is.
February 27, 2009 at 11:55 am #4524. . . maybe, Master B, but Durin has got 14 votes now
.February 27, 2009 at 12:22 pm #4525Yes, but that’s only 5 votes in the lead, isn’t it? Not much leaway there!
February 27, 2009 at 1:50 pm #4526He’ll make it and a dwarf in fighting pose will be a nice addition!
