Very dissapointed at the ridiculous prices for these figures (if they are correct), are Mithril trying to price themselves out of the market?
A single foot figure is more expensive than a mounted Dol Amroth knight!!!
I can understand GF figures being more expensive due to their exclusivity, but this sucks.
May 27, 2009 at 10:31 pm #5386I suggest a petition… (yes I am serious) with lots of names of disapointed people reguarding this… aspect.
I may be understanding when it comes to not suggesting (and not having) mounted figures or so, to reduces the sculpting times etc.. I can understand having to wait for releases etc… but not if they begin to play with us on prices.
So if we propose a petition here, and all of us “sign” it and submit it to Mithril … if this gets enough signatures we can have some weight in the discussion (indeed, if that was a mistake in the price publication… ok that can happen)
May 27, 2009 at 10:42 pm #5387Well I have already stuck my neck on the line with a reply to your post Master Gildor, it will be interesting to see what rebuke we get, lol, critisism seems to touch a raw nerve. Still it has to be said I think
Makes one wonder what price GF figures will start being priced at!
Happy to sign a petition!
May 27, 2009 at 10:50 pm #5388I like your wisdom very much, Wirilóme ! You should make more posts here than four !
May I add, that there is the possibility of an existence of an collector who is also an artist . . .@ your husband: I will support your petition very much indeed, Gildor, very, very much! I am serious too !!!!! 😡
About 40 % rising prices in nearly one year !
What a mistake !
I think a better way is painting my old miths instead of bying new ones . . .May 27, 2009 at 11:53 pm #5389WOW!!!! I am speechless!!!!
It is hard enough for me to buy some, if any, figures nowdays. I will sign that petition too!!!May 27, 2009 at 11:54 pm #5390Since you’re all battle-hardened veterans, I’ll give you the newcomer’s perspective if I may be so bold:
There’s NO WAY I will pay $12-$15 U.S.D. for a single 32mm miniature. (not sure the current conversion rate..)
The minis are nice, but that’s far out of bounds from other high quality minis from other companies. 😮
There – the newbie’s perspective!
George
May 27, 2009 at 11:58 pm #5391I agree with you George! To me this is ridiculous! If this keeps up then it is off to collect something else. (I really hate saying this at all!)
May 28, 2009 at 12:27 am #5392The Lady sounds like my wife….. Watch out Master Gildor there is only one precious!
It looks like that in the near future the new M releases compete with the very old ones. At least regarding the price!
From that time on you only can hope someone buys the minis and puts them on ebay with a starting bid of 99 cents. Not funny any more!
We got quite a few collectors including myself having no spare money laying around somewhere in the house or the backyard to buy these great figures and this price certainly doesn’t help to make them buy more.
This price politic doesn’t make sense at all.It is understandable that even in Ireland the prices are going up and up and Mithril has to adjust accordingly, but 40% from one release to the next is a big jump.
If I would have the money I wouldn’t hesitate to buy these great minis, but I just don’t have it.
So I rather spend the money I have for Mithril for figs like the unreleased dwarfs.Very sad indeed!
May 28, 2009 at 1:50 am #5393Holger (forgive me if the name is incorrect)..
I wish it was only a 40% increase. Going from 5.50 to 9.99 is actually an 82% increase – almost double!
Granted, they are nice figures.. but still.. too expensive
Of course, maybe their logic is that they have enough avid collectors who will “pony up the dough” regardless of the cost.. a risky gambit I dare say..
May 28, 2009 at 2:14 am #5394On a cheery note, I was happy to find out recently that Ken Crawford (Kenakko) is almost a neighbor of mine. We found out because he kindly offered to give me some orcs to use as guardsmen in a diorama I was working on. When he asked for my mailing address, we realized that we live 20 minutes apart – in and around Sacramento, California.
Knowing that, we just HAD to get together for what I described as a “Paint & Gawk” session. Essentially, Ken would show me all his Mithril lovelies – and I would gawk. And then gawk some more. And then some more. And then maybe paint. And then gawk some more.
So that was the PLAN. But execution turned out to be more difficult. We each have these curious little imps in our lives known as “children.” So I kept intending to visit and for a while it didn’t work out.
Finally, we made contact. I was gaming (sorry, WOTR from GW) at a local independent game store and Ken dropped in and visited. He watched our game wrap up, which I’m sure took well over an hour. He showed a lot of interest and aptitude. After the game, he showed me some of his Mithril that he brought – and also gave me FIVE ORCS!
Ken is a beatiful painter of Mithril figures. I was very impressed by his soft touch, exact precision, and nice choice of colors. I thanked him, took my orcs before he could change his mind, and we each went home to our families.
We have now made a second contact. I managed to visit Ken (and his two splendid boys and mother-in-law) and spent a couple hours just SOAKING IT ALL IN! What a beautiful collection he has. I learned a lot about Mithril, along with other figures. And all of it is SO well painted. Even his “horde” armies are very well painted. He even has collectible 1/6th scale models and others. We talked about getting together again in the future for gaming and/or painting.
By the way, his wife must be a very patient woman to let him have so many models in their home on display!
Just thought I would share this happy discovery.
George
May 28, 2009 at 2:29 am #5395Excellent story George! Ken is a great guy! I met him originally on ebay. I bought one of his auctions, but he sent me the wrong mini. I contacted him on ebay to fix the problem and we have been in contact ever since. He has given me minis too and I wish that I lived near both of you guys because I like to wargame too, but I am just a lonely Texas guy who lives far away!
Especially with that Helm’s Deep I am making if we lived in the same area we could wargame and paint together. (And learn tips from each other as well)May 28, 2009 at 3:09 am #5396Jason – I wish you had local people to game with! Don’t feel too bad. With my other commitments, I probably only play 1-2 games per month.
By the way, everyone – sorry to hijack the price hike conversation with my happy discovery! Let me put us back in synch – uninterrupted. Here goes:
Damn those price increases! You can never make me pay!
May 28, 2009 at 3:21 am #5397Well, I usually make up my own rules and games to play. I can tell you more later if you want.
Also, I PM you a message.May 28, 2009 at 5:47 am #5398cannot say anything….the prices….shocked…
need a drink. No, master Barliman a STRONG drink!
The other “bad” company (GW) is not a shining example of pricing policy; comparing their prices with the new ones from our beloved company there is no great difference anymore. Have you seen the 3 figures packs?????
a comparison:
GW: metal character figure 9,10 Euro blister of 3 figures 10,50 to 12,50 Euro
Mithril: ordinary footman 9,99 Euro blister of 3 figures 23,97 EuroO.K. some points concerning price uplifting:
(1) If you would like to follow price increasing strategies, it would be better to inform the collectors and fans early, so that they/we are not shocked that much. That is what GW always does.
(2) Price increases are always hard, even for true customers. As all economics agree, that keeping old customers is most important, price increases should be done in small steps and not in big jumps.
(3) If price increases are planned, explain your customers why prices need to go up, e.g. increasing of prices for raw materials or higher energy costs and so on.I am not happy with higher prices at all, but paying a little bit more would be acceptable. I fear, that such (some say ridiculous) high prices not only keep new customers away (I know almost one die-hard mass buying miniature collector who is not buying because of that) and the long true customers will leave Mithril and will not buy anything any more, or will buy lesser quantities.
I am quite unhappy with that situation and I fear, that this will be the day, when the dying of Mithril has begun.
Concerning preciouses of male GF’s:
A species of very tolerant wifes and very very wise ones. Every male GF should have one.NAMARIE
estelMay 28, 2009 at 6:05 am #5399“By the way, his wife must be a very patient woman to let him have so many models in their home on display!” True enough; I’m a lucky man in this respect! Thanks George and Jason for your kind words. I’m still blushing…I’d love to met all of you in person.
I have to weigh in on the pricing issue here. I think it is the new higher metal prices more than price gouging of the faithful. It is my understanding that the price of certain component metals of ‘white metal’ have increased by more than 20%. Still this represents a huge and unaffordable increase. I agree with a petition, or perhaps an ‘open letter’ to express our concerns. If I were in business I might at least respond and explain to customers. Personally, I was planning to buy several sets of these before I experienced what we yanks call ‘sticker shock’May 28, 2009 at 6:56 am #5400Master Kenakko,
I am shocked as you are and I am also thinking if I should build up my Isengart force after the shock.
I think you might we not right, as the prices of almost all resources have declined in prices, which is quite common in a recession. So that is not an explanation, but maybe Mithril is in harder trouble than we can imagine?May 28, 2009 at 7:11 am #5401I am not good at writing up open letters I admit so I’d need some help in its redaction…
Anyways, there are counter-measures that can ben taken from the community to show mithril our disapointment…
Many among us are Gold Fellowship members, and though this release is regular, and would affect occasional customers, we GF members have been supporting Mithril, somewhat financially, over the years, by suggesting, voting AND buying our own suggestions, sometimes at very high prices… This amount of money and the contribution for Mithril has never been rewarded in terms of price reduction for the regular releases (after all, we had, at first a “contract” to buy at least 9 figurines per year) We spend more money, willingly, on Mithril and without any positive side effect…
I cannot touch the whole mithril customer pool with the MMP board but maybe we could spread the words outside on the official mailboard community… Indeed that will never touch the retailers and people who MIGHT buy in retailers without the option to protest the way we currently do… So it is up to us to do what’s possible…
I’d call for a boycot (even if temporary) of the new releases until a reasonnable explanation or solutions or offers are made from the Mithril side… in addition to this boycot… today being the last day for May GF Votes, I’d also call for a blackout of all suggestions and votes for June in the GF… I know this is a strong move but that would also reflect this idea :
“with the price increase, there is no need to suggest , vote and thus produce GF figurines that would reach such a high price that we could not even buy what we suggest or vote for… so better not suggesting at all”
This would explain Mithril we are very disapointed if there was absolutly no suggestion or no vote for a single month : a “black month” for the fellowship that would be strong… (and would help Chris catch up with the backlog at the sametime, somehow)if Mithril was honest enough with us telling us they are experiencing bad times, financially and have difficulties maintaining the brand, we all could understand and look for solutions altogether… but they remain silent and do not communicate and almost double their prices…. that’s really not a good idea…
so well, if people here have talents in writing correct english “open letters” and submit some of the ideas I suppose here, that would be cool to do it so and we add our names at the bottom and pass it to Mithril ASAP…
May 28, 2009 at 7:54 am #5402How to make your clients buy your products not anymore……
This was the firs move.
How much will be the increase for the GF figures? A single figure now € 60.00?May 28, 2009 at 8:01 am #5403There is nothing left to add, Master Gildor. Well spoken.
@ George and Ken: having a mithril-enthusiast in your neighborhood or near by – well, these are paradisiac circumstances !
What would I give for that . . .
Hey fellows, I live in Bochum, Germany, please visit me . . .May 28, 2009 at 9:01 am #5404well the only other mithril interested people I am aware of in France, live far in the north of France while I live in south…. too bad these are sgodet and drizztdourden, the last being someone I would not really enjoy to have as a partner in collecting
