Nob was way too easy on you rascals, methinks. The traditional system of trade applies in this establishment, Master Tree. You pays me, and I gives you a drink – same sequence as always. So let’s see the colour of your money.
May 30, 2009 at 3:41 pm #5498Huoommm .. strange habits here in Bree, Master Barliman … huoomm … rhuoomm … so, same procedure with any bowl I ask for? … but, alas, what do you mean by colour of money? … huom
… must have been a metaphor, methinks … gruoommm … meanwhile you could start filling that bowl, please, Master Barliman ….. huoomm … I just want to see what I’ll be paying for … homMay 30, 2009 at 3:47 pm #5499Huoommmrhuoomm, no one else before called me a rascal … huoommm … did you learn that behaviour in the time of your absence? … rhuuoommm … I cannot imagine …. hom … why not calm down and be relaxed knowing that there still are some regulars around …. huoommm ….
so what about this bowl I was ordering some time ago? … huooomm…May 30, 2009 at 3:52 pm #5500OK, done – but drink it slowly, unless you have more than one rumour to offer.
May 30, 2009 at 9:07 pm #5502Huoomm … thank you Master Barliman .. that’s exactly the way I wish to be served in a pub like this … rhuuoomm … then I’d rather prefer to allow myself the speed of swallowing liquids on my own … rhuooommm …. yes, I do have more than one rumour,of course .. huoomm … you should know me by now …. alas, would you please top it up … this bowl is … ahem … somewhat filthy, meseems … as for my rumours to pay for that liquid … rhuooomm … I can only say that it’s something “unexpected” … huoomm …

Welcome, Master Barliman. Now I hope to improve the “tapas” that come with drink …
May 30, 2009 at 9:28 pm #5505Calming down is a real good suggestion, Master Tree.
I will apply myself in working on that diorama of this famous father of a forthcoming dragonslayer . . . !May 30, 2009 at 9:53 pm #5506I would not want to ruin a rumor by my guess… but when I read that… along with what was said hastily before…
that makes me think of an incoming MX vignette of the “Unexpected Party” ? (Though If I remember well, there is already a Bilbo in this fashion in the LR series)
I am a diviner? or am I totally out of my shoes?
May 31, 2009 at 3:02 am #5508“Unexpected”?! What sort of rumour is that? Everything in life is unexpected, unless you know about it beforehand – the Mithril price increase was “unexpected”! Can’t you be kinder to a sleep-deprived publican and provide a more helpful hint?
May 31, 2009 at 10:16 am #5516Huoommm … no, Master Erchamion, I didn’t, my wife wouldn’t feel good about that …. rhuoomm ….
so, tapas in Bree … rhuoommm … somehow this world is changing, methinks … huooommm …
besides, there was never ever delivered anything coming along with a drink in these premises …
rhuoommm … except those taps … huoommmhomhom … but I’ve learned that you even have to pay for them …. gruoommmm …homMay 31, 2009 at 10:31 am #5517Huoommm … so, he’s up now …. that sleep-deprived barkeep … huoomm … well, Master Barliman, I did not think at all that the Mithril price increase was unexpected … huoomm … I’m afraid they simply forgot to increase the price permanently, so they tried to push it up once they recognized it … huoomm … a strange strategy, meseems … huoommm …
As for your query I just might remind you again that a good barkeep should first ask what his customers would like to have … rhuuoommm … after that you can fix the price, of course …. huoommmmmmhomhom … after having considered that I might agree or disagree … hommmMay 31, 2009 at 11:08 am #5518Does a good barkeep leave his bar unattedned just because he thinks he has to follow in the footsteps of the fellowship???
May 31, 2009 at 11:11 am #5519After such a long journey, what news does Master Barliman bring with him??
May 31, 2009 at 12:17 pm #5523Huooommmm … news? …. rumours would be right for us …. huoommm … but be sure, Master Caster, he’ll charge you for that … hooommm … as you’re around here again, Master Hsf62, oh that young you are … but older than MasterBombadil, meseems, I can tell you that your last guess about some months ago was completely wrong …. huoommm …. it wasn’t what you called “Schneewittchen” … huoomm … and besides the number of the participants was far too much underestimated with that … rhuoommm… anyway … hom … if you know what I mean … hom … but in the Ent no one knows what might happen … huomm …
May 31, 2009 at 1:09 pm #5526Lets wait and be surprised!
It all depends on how many small “things” we take in consideration!May 31, 2009 at 3:49 pm #5533Well, I’m back again after European travels and a lot of make-up chemistry labs.
First and best, my trip to Paris was a smashing success. It was hard to leave, and I’m planning on returning in a couple of years, as soon as I can save up the rather large amount of money required.
Secondly, the price increase news was very unwelcome. It’s a tough issue to get my head around. Clearly, we all love Mithrils and what they represent of TOlkien’s works, so it becomes an emotional situation. On the other hand, Mithrils are a luxury item, that we are not forced to buy and can quickly go by the wayside if our circumstances in life become more difficult.
Similarly, Prince August/Lars/Mithril aren’t required to sell us anything at a price of our choosing, but one would hope that a sense of loyalty and fellowship would promote less mercenary business tactics.
Unfortunately, Mithril, and specifically Lars, have a long history of curious, if not downright questionable, business decisions. Most notably, is the lack of ability or desire to more agressively market their products to gamers. It seems as if lately they’d been doing better, with the Salute figures, and the Witch King for the online game.
Although I enjoy them, I found the current trend of army-type releases an odd way to go, given licensing issues with GW and TE. It seemed like another golden age of Mithril releases, with the frequent M series coupled with more interesting single subjects from the Gold Fellowship. Too good to last unmolested I guess.
As far as a “boycott”. economic reality has essentially forced one upon me already, without any political meaning behind it. I haven’t ordered anything since the corsairs, and am having a hard time justifying the price of a lot of Fellowship releases. Given that I’ve just spent approximatley the value of my entire Mithril collection on the aforementioned trip to Paris, I guess I’ve decided to take my discretionary spending in other directions.
I plan on saving up some extra money this summer to “catch up” on my Mithril collection, but at the current price point, the truly excellent chaps from Helm’s Deep will have to wait a lot longer. I’ll wait years until they go on clearance sale, which they will eventually.
Collecting Mithrils is a great hobby and has led us all to form a global community based on our common interests. Once the financial cost becomes so great that it becomes a source of stress, then that enjoyment is greatly lessened and becomes tainted by doubt and regret. So I guess it is up to each of us how to spend our time and money. Regardless, I hope we can keep this truly special community alive and thriving, even it if there are no new Mithrils to discuss, and it is just to share our painting and modelling achievements from our current collections.
With that, I’ll have a pint and then off to mow the lawn!
May 31, 2009 at 7:46 pm #5541Huoommm … mowing the lawn … that’s what I should have done yesterday … huom … instead of that I simply sat down and watched the flowers in the lawn growing with the bees buzzing and tumbling … huoommm
Your words are wise, Master Presto … huomm … and about your concern about keeping alive this community I can assure you that I do all I can …. rhuoommm …
as for you, Master Caster, you will have to be patient, but I can guarantee that you will be more than surprised … huoomm …June 1, 2009 at 3:20 am #5548I love surprises!
To Master Presto I have to say there always will be “New Mithrils”!June 1, 2009 at 4:12 am #5549Me gusta tapas! Y cerbeza!
June 1, 2009 at 10:40 am #5550Huoommmrhuoommm …. ? I wonder what the Man in the Dark put in his pipe … rhuoomm … hej, Master Twrich, hur mar du? … huomm … rökere … valmö wisst or valmö röd ger dremfri sömn och smärtfri död … rhuoommm … alas, must have been the drink …
