Huoommm … no, Master Barliman, you will not have lost any money, methinks … rhuoommm … as you might also consider what you get for that … ahem … that round you promised is not on it’s way to being received by some regulars, I’m afraid … huomm … as you seem to rather spend you coiny things on tiny metal pieces … rhuoomhuomm … anyway, I do understand well.
June 4, 2009 at 10:53 pm #5601Thanks everyone! It is good to hear from all of you. I feel good when I come to this site and despite my situation, it is a relief to forget all of the problems. When all of this price hike started I was like, “Oh great now I won’t be able to get any minis at all!” I will definately get a mini when I can and I will be here still too.
As a wargame person, I guess my battles will not be that intense with only a few guys, but that is ok. My Helm’s Deep that I am making is coming along very nicely.(check out what I have done in My Work on this site) Thanks again all of you and Barli, please give me the largest drink you have!
June 5, 2009 at 12:07 am #5604Hi Jason, your battles won’t be small eighter!
June 5, 2009 at 12:29 pm #5613Ha! I forgot about that Master Caster! Thanks.
June 7, 2009 at 5:49 am #5641It’s suddenly gone very quiet in here…
June 7, 2009 at 2:29 pm #5642Indeed, Master Barliman …. huoommm … did you raise the prices?
June 7, 2009 at 3:50 pm #5643Ho, ho, very topical humour, Master Tree! No, I don’t want to annoy MY customers, so no unjustifiable price hikes in this establishment.
June 7, 2009 at 4:49 pm #5646Huooommmm …. at least these are good news … huomm … I always knew you’re an honourable man … hom
June 7, 2009 at 5:36 pm #5648Barli I have been waiting for that large drink for quite awhile! Please, since you are not that busy, make that drink for me.
June 7, 2009 at 6:11 pm #5650Do you want it with one of those little pink umbrellas, or without?
June 8, 2009 at 1:20 am #5652Without, please. Do you have any pineapple slices?
June 8, 2009 at 5:44 am #5654Pineapple chunks, lemon slices, bitters, worcester sauce – you name it, I’ve got it. But does any of it really improve the taste of my scrumpy, I ask you?
June 8, 2009 at 7:33 am #5656“But does any of it really improve the taste of my scrumpy, I ask you?”
You’d better not ask!
June 8, 2009 at 8:00 am #5657worcester?? like in worcestshire? by how on Arda did you manage to find such a component, not to say the name of this place
June 8, 2009 at 10:29 pm #5658I just read once again the suggestions thread for june in the official board… and I wonder…
all those people who now suggest and criticize the boycott… once again, everybody’s free to have his opinion… but I wonder if those discussion in this thread… had not been made, or made elsewhere…. or if the boycott in the suggestion topic had not been enforced at its beginning… would we have a price reduction from 9,99€ to 6,99€ …. would Mithril have cared at all about our disapointment?…. Assuming Lars does not even warn or listen to Chris Tubb himself, allow me to think that if NO threat had been made to something that could HURT mithril, at the cost of a sacrifice for us all (I mean the very existence of the GF here) well if no threat or strong message had been done in this very place, nothing would have been done… and the figurines would most certainly still be at 9,99€ …. Now I wish I am wrong… and I am ready to make amend if I am indeed wrong…
I don’t want to be upset by the community here…. but I feel like there are some people (not necessarily from the MMP community but mainly from the GF community) that are content that the GF still exists even if it means Mithril health is growing worse, I have the feeling (maybe this is paranoïa) that people are more interested in seeing a GF figurine being produced… at any cost….(until those same costs increase to twice its current price one day or another) and no matter if Mithril has financial problems and is forced to raise other prices…
Now I would like to ask solemnely here… to be sure :
What would you prefer :
having no Gold Fellowship and, instead, good advertising campaign and a new “youth” for Mithril?
have a “precious” Gold Fellowship, and no matter if Mithril is forced to financial decisions such as stopping regular releases, making collectors only products in only 100-200 batches at a price thrice the amount it is currently…(currently, that’s what’s happening : they have a fixed number of customers…. trustful ones… who love the gold fellowship figures a lot… maybe more than the regulars… so why bother making regulars? but with the dry loss of not having a retail market, collector market would necessarily have to be more expensive)mmmmhh… hasty am I… am I not? I should maybe take some rest at this late hour … huooommmm yes, a bit of a rest, in a grove near Fangorn… hummm…..
June 9, 2009 at 12:07 am #5659I would be for not having the Gold Fellowship and having good advertising. I really can’t afford any of the fellowship figures anyway. Some suggestions I really don’t care for either.
June 9, 2009 at 12:11 am #5660I like the Gold Fellowship. I love some of the things we’ve gotten out of it. I could live without the Gold Fellowship, I suspect.
Still want my Elf Bard, Northman Healer and Shield-maiden damnit. Oh and Elladan and Elrohir in their ranger garb at the Black Gate.
June 9, 2009 at 2:49 am #5661Personally, I would sacrifice the Gold Fellowship if necessary to increase the overall health and viability of Mithril as a company.
I think the Gold Fellowship is/was a fantastic idea. I truly believe it led to the recharging of Chris’s creative energies bringing us to not only the fantastic fellowship figures, but the superb M-series work as well.
Alas, it is becoming cost-prohibitive for me. Also, it seems that the ideas are trending further and further afield. This is fine, as they are all voted on, but some ideas are truly less appealing than others.
Thought: What if the “Fellowship” reverted to it’s more traditional form from the past. I’m thinking we still vote on a figure, but it is only one :0 (yes, I said it!!) one figure a year, and that figure becomes the Fellowship special for the year. Additionally, we could revive the Tengwar, albeit in online form with Fellowship member submissions. That wouldn’t put a large work-load increase on the front-office types at Mithril, and it would GREATLY reduce Chris’s workload.
I just don’t see the economic viability of producing 100-150 figures that cost 30-50 Euro each and only sell 40-50% of the stock. (Sales numbers are just guesses on my part) That’s a lot of money tied up in production that ends up as a sunk cost with figures sitting on the shelves in the warehouse.
June 9, 2009 at 3:31 am #5663I agree with your comment Presto!
June 9, 2009 at 5:36 am #5664I could certainly live without the GF on economic grounds, but whether or not anything equally worthwhile would be substituted in its place is a moot point. I’ve twice this year got to the point where I’ve seriously contemplated ‘opting out’ of buying any more GFs (some I don’t like anyway, and others are too expensive for me, so purchasing my ‘membership quota’ has been difficult), but it is a way of getting specific figures into production that would probably never see the light of day otherwise.
Certainly if it came down to a choice I would prefer to see Mithril promoting itself better, but I can’t really see how it’s an ‘either/or’ situation. How would not having the GF actually release funds that could then be spent on advertising? I think Lars is too astute a businessman to persevere with producing a dozen figures a year that don’t at least cover their costs; and if they at least cover their costs, then closing down the GF wouldn’t actually save any money.
As for your first question, Master Gildor, I’m still not sure that it was the partial GF boycott that got through to Lars and Michael that we were very unhappy about the new M range prices. I think it was your ‘open letter’ which achieved that. But the GF forum comments may well have served to underline the point.
Now that the immediate ‘crisis’ has been resolved, incidentally, I’m puzzled why many people still haven’t suggested a GF figure for this month.
