Recently a collector friend of mine sent me some pics taken from a catalogue somewhere like 10 years ago.
Among those pics I found two, that kept my attention… I scanned them and here they are… if any of you has some info on them, please, can you share them?[imgz url=http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/2_galad1.jpg]http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/thumbs/2_galad1.jpg[/imgz]
[imgz url=http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/2_arag1.jpg]http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/thumbs/2_arag1.jpg[/imgz](these are 54mm and though this aragorn is a quite exact copy of the LO version, this Galadriel looks quite unique)

March 4, 2009 at 11:17 pm #4566. . . fantastic! The chamber of treasures has been opened again.
And mithril enthusiastic people with appropriate knowledge recognize the similarity with the Saruman54mm-base ! Look at the prepared gallery section of Master Gildor . . .March 4, 2009 at 11:21 pm #4567When I do that by myself, I recognize that the similarity is, well, yes, ähem . . .
I think some present has fogging my mind a little bit . . . I should go testing the smoothness of my pillow . . .May 11, 2009 at 4:51 pm #5176well that’s done…
I managed to get some deals with the owner of those big rarities there are three actually…
there is also a Gandalf which is VERY similar to the 1994 Christmas Gandalf. but slightly different in the pose and the staff position.
The Aragorn, though it looks quite the same as the [mith]LO4[/mith] is REALLY different I assure you…
As for the Galadriel it is simply unique…Only Three prototypes of each of these 54mm have been made and Chris Tubb himself does not have any more of these one they are by all means as rare (if note more) than the 1988 Christmas Aragorn (this one exists in 150 copies…)… they don’t have any copyrights nor any information under the base but they were made in 1994… and they are undercoated in thick white… Maybe they go along the Saruman 54mm owned by Kennako…
Their value is undoubtly priceless… but well.. they had a price… and it costed me quite a lot of money… to be the NEW owner of these jewels… So you’ll soon have more detailed pictures of them
(I will keep the price I paid them a secret though… I hope you can understand… I don’t want to generate a price publicly for items that have no chance to be seen any time soon anywhere)PS : Kenakko if you are willing to sell your Saruman or ME2 to go along this “museum” I am now building, maybe we could make a deal? (just in case…) I am currently building up great vista glasscases for good display and now that Juegos Sin Fronteras does not exist anymore I think there is no more place in the world to have all the rarities gathered together
May 11, 2009 at 9:31 pm #5178Two more ‘Silmarils’ for your treasure chest Gildor.
Well done on acquiring them for your collection
May 12, 2009 at 12:31 pm #5184So finally they found a new home which I think is the best place where they could get.
I’m really looking forward to seeing better pics of those rarities.
Your argument about not publishing the price is absolutely reasonable, Gildor.May 12, 2009 at 1:07 pm #5188Looking forward to see the pics!

Thank you for offering these treasures to us !
May 13, 2009 at 8:57 am #5206Looove the Galadriel!
Hmm just had an idea…..May 13, 2009 at 11:52 am #5207Absolutely great figures. Now being able to see the details one can distinguish this Aragorn from the LO-release clearly. Yes, and a very nice Galadriel.
I still wonder about that white coating (finish?) …May 13, 2009 at 2:10 pm #5208this coating is strange and it was not added afterwards by the former collector… When it first left Chris Tubb workshop.. back in 1994 it already had this coating…
I don’t think it is an undercoat , it is almost impossible to paint over this coating, and it gives the figurine an oversmoothy texture one would almost call “oily”….
I think it is rather a “preserver” or a protector film” to harden and protect the metal used for its casting for any kind of leadrott or grease or drops of anykind from hands that would often touch them…(a very thick glossy varnish)
After all these are prototypes meant to serve as examples i suppose… not meant to be displayed or painted at all (not even an antique finish)The Galadriel is quite unique but the face is a bit odd… too elongated
As for the Aragorn from LO release you are right master ent but you can also easily see the very high number of small differences for several parts of the body. (head, hair, arms, hands pouches, belt, bracers, wall base)
the differences are more numerous than the ones from Christmas 1992 to MA1there is strictly nothing engraved below the base and this base is hollow (round shaped hollow like the old Christmas figurines with hexagonal base back in 1994 or so…
May 13, 2009 at 2:56 pm #5209I’d love a Mithril Fellowship version of that Galadriel in 32mm…
Sigh..
May 13, 2009 at 6:40 pm #5210These are very nice indeed Gildor and true prototypes as well. It is hard to speculate on the reasons they differ from other releases but I will: It is likely the differences themselves that have lead to other, similar designs (LO4, Christmas Gandalf, and MA1) ultimately being produced. Perhaps it was issues with the molding and limb position, ‘negative spaces’ around bases and staffs, etc. Or perhaps they were simply rejected by the artist (though they look good to me!). We may never know and Chris and Dan Joe may not remember. Did you get a sense from Chris? The time frame is about right for Mithril’s focus on 54 mm, something Chris has always been interested in. Good find and congradulations!
