Actually I added a smiley, but it didn’t have a space so ended up as a : ) rather than a . And I was in a rush . But a fuller welcome Susofrick, welcome to the Community and enjoy your time here (and don’t sup too much of aforementioned brew) 😎
March 28, 2013 at 2:16 pm #27389Hi.
I’m Tom and once upon a time I helped make the early Mithril figures (and the other stuff Prince August did). While I was never a completist collector it was my interest in miniatures which led to me working there. I’m still pleased to have been involved with the start of the Mithril range and I hope it isn’t controversial on this forum to say that I think they are far and away the best fantasy figures I have seen. Largely Chris’s design of course, but we thought the production quality was pretty good too.
Anyway this was a long time ago – I left in 1989 – and I’m thinking I may put a few of my early figures up for sale. I see the 1988 Christmas gift has been sought after. Is there still such interest?
Tom
March 28, 2013 at 2:57 pm #27390Hi Tom, it’s good to have you around here.
I do absolutely agree with what you said about Mithril, Chris’ skills in sculpting and the quality of the castings.
Well, as for the 1988 Christmas Aragorn I do think there will be a lot of interest here, as it is one of the rarest figures in the Mithril ranges. Fortunately I own a complete collection, but I’m sure there’ll be others here being interested in this figure. I think it’s a good idea to offer that rarity here instead of selling it on Ebay right away.March 28, 2013 at 3:15 pm #27394Hi Tom… be welcome on our little forum… I’m interested for that figure but…. depend how much money you will ask for it… anyway please have a good many days here…
March 28, 2013 at 4:41 pm #27396Welcome here, Master Tom. As the Tree said before, many interestied fellows will be here soon.
As far as I am concerned, I won´t afford it . . .March 28, 2013 at 4:43 pm #27397Hi Tom and welcome aboard MMP !
I am sure you chose the right place to propose this very rare Aragorn.
I may also propose you some coiny things for it, or maybe a big trade against many mithrils as it seems you like them (I have many attics full of extra mithrils ) ?By the way, Christmas 1989 is a mystery for all of us (never seen in real by any of us nor on internet).
If you have any clue for this miniature, even better, a picture, it would be fantatic !On my side, I also maintain Mithril + Prince August “lost mini” wiki gallery (here: http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=Category:Prince_August).
I wonder if you might be able to help me for old PA range. If yes, please just let me know by email. In any case, please feel free to show us what mithrils and PA minis you have as it’s always a pleasure for us to share some of Chris’s work !
March 28, 2013 at 4:48 pm #27398Thanks to Thingol and Theobald for the welcome.
From the start, Mithril was always intended to be something worth paying a bit extra for compared to others. The blister packs and undercoating were intended to emphasise the quality of the design and reproduction. I’ve only had occasional contact with the company since leaving but it seems that the strategy worked.
As far as Aragorn goes, it would be a somewhat reluctant sale.March 28, 2013 at 5:17 pm #27399And Thanks to Turambar and Milo too.
Milo, the PA collection on your link looks pretty complete. I’d actually forgotten some of those. I do have some pictures – where do I put them?March 28, 2013 at 5:44 pm #27401Welcome from the Pony too, Master Tom.
March 28, 2013 at 5:54 pm #27402Hello there and welcome Xenophile! It is great to have a person like you in this community
As for Aragorn I have no doubt there could be a lot of interested collectors around here, though I have one myself too. But there are other rarities I would personnaly be willing to acquire and at least see.
Maybe you could tell us if you remember about the 1989 Christmas gift vignette of Isildur? or the 1991 Patrick Sarsfield which I am still looking for?March 29, 2013 at 1:36 pm #27403Hello Barliman and Gildor.
I left the factory early in 1989 and while I did remain in contact I’m afraid I have no knowledge of the 1989 gift. It would surprise me if it was as elaborate as a vignette which I’ve heard suggested. I suppose it may be possible there wasn’t one. 1989 must have been a very busy year with Mithril’s success and I think Chris moved from Cork to England that year too so he wouldn’t have had much spare time – and the company didn’t make any money on figures it made as gifts! The only other Christmas figure I have is of Eowyn and while I will have to check, I think it is dated 1991?
