Great detail, thanks for giving us that link.
Fantastic! Could we beg to see some close-ups of the figures?
Thanks everyone, it’s good to be here.
I’ve posted some painted figures but haven’t properly introduced myself. I’ve been a Tolkien nut since I was 10 years old. I love building models and painting miniatures. Mithril comes closest to an ideal representation of Middle Earth characters for me. I only have a few (some of them since the 80s) but will collect and paint more over time.
I live in Ontario, Canada and was lucky enough to visit England a few years ago where I saw this church door in Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswolds. Our Rick Steeves travel guide suggested that Tolkien wandered the Cotswolds and was likely inspired by this door, I’m sure you’ll recognize the scene, but they are Yew trees, not Holly.
At high levels some classes give a character subtle powers like foresight, limited telepathy or words of command.
As Dwarves advance in level they can choose three spells related to runes for opening/closing doors or relaying secrets. These spells are chosen at the expense of other features.
Elves have three spells available as well as they advance in level, but they are far less powerful than typical D&D spells.
Some rare items are described that give bonuses due to their special background, dwarven armour and weapons for example.
The most supernatural aspect is a game device called The Shadow. I hear that it works like Insanity rules in Cthulu games where it can gradually corrupt characters who experience or perpetrate wicked deeds.
Very sorry to be so late in reviving this thread, and a belated thank you for all of the generous comments. The chair was based on that scene at the end of the movie.
The chair was made from sheet and rod styrene from the hobby shop. I make full-size wooden chairs as a hobby and used the same basic construction.
Here is the finished scene.
Love the painting and your colour choices.
Hello all,
I’ve had a few Mithril minis since the 80s and have picked up a few more along the way. Now that I know they’re available at reasonable prices I’ll have to get some more.
Cheers,
Ted
I love the vignette, especially the details of the room.
Thanks very much folks, you’re too kind.
I followed the tutorial and opened a new gallery. I finished painting the Marco/Blanco figure today and then found an Animist I painted recently and forgot about.
Apparently I’ve been under a rock for many years because I just learned that many of these amazing figures are still in production.
