Nice to see you around here … I have to be honest about the fact that by now I still have not decided about the prize … rhuoommm … though there are some thoughts about that having to be reconsidered … hom … I cannot haste everything, you know … last year there was that camel in the test-run and the M16 as a prize …. huoomm … I hope I remember well ….
yes, time …. rhuoomm … why start that early with a Christmas riddle? … well, it’s just because it takes time until the prize will be sent in time for Christmas to the winner …. rhuoomm.

enjoy <--- !!! (in case you dare) .... rhuooommmmmmmmmHOmm ... homtedidomOctober 4, 2008 at 12:46 pm #3344So here’s the first question (and I didn’t put it myself, I’m just quoting):
Where is that chariot from?
October 4, 2008 at 1:23 pm #3346Ohhh, hasty you are … let me first explain the rules, please.
– There’s one point for giving the right answer to a question being first. (alas, I mean the first one who gives a correct answer gets 1 point)
– The correct answers have to be given here.
– The one of you who gets most of the points will be called a winner and therefore has access to a prize (which will be worth it).
– This riddle consists of three (3) parts. The first one is about a chariot and includes different levels.
Thank you for your interest.
October 4, 2008 at 1:58 pm #3348O.K. I will have a try.
I suppose that chariot belongs to the universe of: thunderboldmountain miniatures.
Tell me, Master Ent, am I right ? Or am I wrong ?October 4, 2008 at 3:15 pm #3349huuoommmm …. first point has just been given to you, Master Rita.de …. huoommm … Tunderbold Mountain was correct …. rhuoommm … keep on guessing there are many other parts to find out about ….. hom … well, others might also try to get some pointy things … as there are many more parts to be reveiled … huoommm
October 4, 2008 at 4:20 pm #3352huoommm … sorry … but there was an “h” missing in Tunderbold …. rhuoommm … it was my fault …. gruooohhhmmm … when do Ents ever learn to spell correctly …
October 4, 2008 at 7:08 pm #3354Well, the figures are certainly M170 and the Dunlending from the Wulf of Edoras Fellowship vignette.
October 4, 2008 at 9:16 pm #3355Huoommm … right you are Master Kennako …. so that means two points … ah, did you see how the Dunlending’s hands of that vignette were altered to hold those lashes instead of a shield … rhuoommm … of course you recognized that slight shift in shapes … rhuoommm

It is coming from: the left …
Assuming it is aligned with our maps and has hostile intentions, it could be from the Gap of Rohan.
[Everybody is riddling according to their abilities, I guess, haha.]
October 5, 2008 at 10:09 am #3358Oh, sorry, Master Protozeus, but Master Rita.de already got that point for finding out that the chariot is from Thunderbold Mountain (which is a company) …. huoommm … so there’s no further point to be given for the chariot-guess … huoomm … sorry ….
oh, by the way I just turned that piece around …. then the chariot comes from the right ….October 5, 2008 at 1:53 pm #3362Rhuooommmm …. now it’s coming from the right in my latest picture at that Mathom House, Master Protozeus …. huommm … I just had to turn them chariot around … hom …
Why are there no guesses about the sources of the horses? … huoommm … well, the base might be a more serious matter to identify correctly, methinks …. rhuooommmm …October 5, 2008 at 2:58 pm #3364well, Master Tree, I guess that the horses are also from Thunderbold Mountain, aren´t they ?
You asked Master Kenakko how the hand is altered to hold the lashes, but- he didn´t answered you . . .
I suppose you took an arm of some archer?
By the way-does this still belong to your riddle, magnificent Ent, or must I overthink my consume on hot chocolate with whiskey
on this cold german october afternoon ?October 5, 2008 at 6:08 pm #3366Well, I must confess that the only thing I do not know about this conversion is where the horses do come from. I doubt they are from Thunderbolt mountain as Tom Meier is a better sculptor than this, even though they are well posed. My guesses would be early Ral Partha, Grenadier or even Old Glory. Knowing the provenance of this fine conversion, should I disqualify myself? Nice job on the finishing touches, Master Tree!
October 5, 2008 at 10:11 pm #3368Huoommm … thanks … no, you never could disqualify yourself, Master Kenakko …. though I have to say that your guess about the horses is wrong … sorry. Though your doubt that they’re from Thunderbolt mountain is correct , as they are not … Yes, indeed the casting of those horses is not what I would call a good quality … so I had to reshape some parts of the manes with that … ahem … Green stuff … anyway … I said that this first part of the riddle cannot be solved in a minute …
October 5, 2008 at 10:33 pm #3369Sorry Master Rita.de, I didn’t see your entry first …. but as you just have read the horses are not from Thunderbolt Mountain. That would have been too easy, wouldn’ it?
As for the arm of the lad trying to cope with them horses Master Kenakko was absolutely right saying that the origin is from the MS280 ‘Wulf of Edoras’ vignette from 1993. I chose the Dunlending instead of that pirate. Of course that figure was slightly changed, as it wouldn’t make much sense having him standing steering the chariot and looking at the sky … the left arm also is slightly changed and the hand of the right arm as they have to hold leashes and not a shield … but no arm of any archer was used for that ….
Oh, just not to be misunderstood ….. I didn’t cast those parts myself …October 6, 2008 at 5:08 pm #3372…well then, back to the riddle shall we? Regarding the chariot, being Dunlandish in origin, it must be from Enedwaith. Is there any specific reference to chariots in Dunland, anyone? I think the use of chariots by Dunlendings is a natural extrapolation from the Celt/Dunland inspirations of CT, with which I entirely agree. But what does Tolkien say on these matters? Could this chariot represent ancestors of Dunnish peoples from the first age? Aren’t the “Easterlings” of the first age really these kinds of peoples? Perhaps I digress because I have no idea where the horses came from:/!
October 7, 2008 at 2:39 pm #3383Of course I have to admit that there’s no source in Tolkien’s writings about any Dunlending chariot. There you’re absolutely right, Master Kenakko. So we might call it an ‘Easterling’ or ‘Enedwaith’ chariot. I don’t mind.
Anyway I think it roughly fits to Master Tubb’s way of visualizing the Dunlendings in the Mithril series, taking in account a lot of Celtic details.October 7, 2008 at 5:49 pm #3389Celts as Dunlendings would be something the Professor himself could likely get behind and I think CT’s interpretation is shared by many. It works for me, too, and not just because I have Celts standing in for Dunlendings in my armies! I think all those ICE books went along here too! Again stalling here because the identity of the horses is proving to be hard to find! But is that the rest of the riddle?
October 12, 2008 at 10:07 am #3401No, it’s not the rest of the riddle as there will be a second part in November ….
As for the chariot there are still stwo things to be answered … about the horses and the base (sic!)
All in all the interest in this year’s riddle doesn’t seem to be overboarding, so to say. -
