Nice, going to definately check it out; although I still RPG w/ MERP 2nd ed., modified to increase game speed
July 2, 2011 at 6:52 pm #18355Yeah, I tend to play a hybrid of MERP and the LOR game – basically LOR with converted MERP skills, and some half hearted spell conversions. Having play-tested this game, I think it will make a fine addition to the Tolkien universe, but I am not sure it will actually replace MERP.
July 2, 2011 at 7:14 pm #18357That’s impressive … no, sorry … it’s more than just impressive … it’s perfect.
The Celtic frame on that structured backround … with Runes I cannot read well … then the picture … simply wonderful because of colours clearly reveiling depth … well, what can I tell about a perfect picture by John Howe … I do like them trees most … rhuomm
thanks Gavin, for still sticking to dreams …July 2, 2011 at 7:45 pm #18358what are the playable character races?
July 2, 2011 at 8:23 pm #18360Well, without giving much away, this book focusses on the Laketown and Dale area, and Northern Mirkwood.
So…about everyone you’d find thereabouts, and some Hobbits too.
(The idea is that the next big release will introduce more playable races and rules and the third release, the War of the Ring will introduce everything else)
July 2, 2011 at 9:00 pm #18361thanks—i’ll wait for the third release … and the trolls.
July 2, 2011 at 11:39 pm #18362The cover shows an archer of Mrkwood, am i right??!!
Absolutely over-fantastic. I admire John Howe´s work since I was very young.
Could you give us a bit more information about this cover, Gavin?July 3, 2011 at 7:52 am #18365Great picture, and great design…. I also admire John Howe…. !
July 3, 2011 at 6:23 pm #18378The only real information I can give you is that what you are seeing is an Elf of Mirkwood, on a cover image for a slip case.
The slip case will contain two books – a player’s guide (how you make your guy) and a narrator’s guide (how you run the game).I only playtested it for a few months and then had to go do things for money instead, so I am not sure how the final product will look. How-and-ever, its designed by the guy who created the War of the Ring boardgame, so there’s some cleverness involving dice: there were some different options on the table at the time, so we’ll have to wait and see. I think we’ll see reviews coming out after Gencon.
Depending on how the final result plays out, I might just convert my “Before the Goblins” project over to the new system, see if I can’t get it out in time for the second release.
July 3, 2011 at 9:15 pm #18398I’m definately going to check it out. I run hybrid adventures as well; lots of good ideas in different sources.
