Oin
December 20, 2009 at 1:48 pm #8398Next is number seven, I think. It’s a hard one. Though there’ll be just one more point to be given for the correct answer.
What was (sic) the name of the company (not a store) that first provided Mithril miniatures in Germany in the early 90s? Was it …

December 20, 2009 at 1:57 pm #8400Alas, whenever I try to type me riddles that Master Erchamion is faster with them answers.
Oin is correct, of course. But why does he know? He must have had a look at the pictures I provided in this Mathom House about some “Unexpected Party” where Oin could be seen lying instead of sitting at the right in that picture. …. though …
anyway, one point of course, Master ErchamionDecember 20, 2009 at 2:01 pm #8401Just returning from cleaning the street in front of the house from tons of snow . . .
Oh yes, Master Erchamion is very quick. And he knows also German-retailers. Respect for this, Erchamion! And too late for me.
But I am happy with my one single point . . .
Good ideas, by the way, Master Theobald.December 20, 2009 at 2:01 pm #8402Theobald wrote:Alas, whenever I try to type me riddles that Master Erchamion is faster with them answers.

anyway, one point of course, Master ErchamionYourself said in a post: ´Master Tubb was not satisfied at all with his first sculpting of Oin (lying down on the right of the picture – that version has been dismissed), so he decided to remake him. He still has his hair and right arm to be completed. So the one lying is cancelled.´
December 20, 2009 at 2:03 pm #8403rhuooommm … that man keeps me breathless … yes, yes, yes … Laurin (old Citadel) is correct, of course. It’s a name you won’t find in an Elbish dictionary – but the others can be found there.
“Laurinque” I like.December 20, 2009 at 2:08 pm #8404rita.de wrote:Just returning from cleaning the street in front of the house from tons of snow . . .

Good ideas, by the way, Master Theobald.Don´t believe Master rita.de. I do not know much about German distributors. On the Internet you can find almost everything …..
Well, I too have lot of fun with the riddles of Master Theobald!. I will let rest of the friends continue playing …..
December 20, 2009 at 2:15 pm #8405tons of snow? in the street? yes, it’s the same here, Master Rita.de, and there’s more to come as my cats do not like to go outside at the moment – and wind’s hurling around me branches … anyway, I have to pass on my last riddle right now.
Again it’s some kind of that lottery-riddely-things for you. But first let’s have a look:
Master Gildor 7 1/2
Master Erchamion 7
Master Regalrick 7
Master Barliman 3
Master Protozeus 1
Master Rita.de 1
So far there was no point given for the first riddle.
I hope this is right.
A very close run meseems.December 20, 2009 at 2:18 pm #8406Hah, that’s what he did … looking on the internet-thing … The answers to my last riddle cannot be found there, that’s for sure
December 20, 2009 at 2:23 pm #8407nr 8 (last one in 2009) – two questions and two points
How old am I (me not the tree)?
How much older or younger is Chris Tubb?
Just guess two numbers. This is a good one at the ent, isn’t it? Lottery pure, so to say.
December 20, 2009 at 2:36 pm #8408Your cats don´t like going outside?
Our cats won´t either!!!! They only have a very short look . . .
Coming to the final riddle answer:
Master Theobald, you are 47 springs young and Master Tubb is the same! What a surprise, isn´t it?!December 20, 2009 at 2:42 pm #8409Then I promised to give some help with the first riddle.
The compass of the Elves is focused on Valinor. At least Earendil, the sailor, used those runes.
What are the other three names (one I provided already – númen, which means westward and focused on Valinor)?
So this one riddle should have been solved soon. And as I said before, this is not about any alphabet. On the other hand one of my last year’s riddles wasn’t solved at all (remember them horses of that chariot?).
Anyway, let’s say that this year’s riddle will end in about 6 hours. (I like to put on some pressure to make you haste)
I hope you can agree.
And thank you all for takingpart in thisDecember 20, 2009 at 2:48 pm #8410Part of your answer is wrong , Master Rita.de. Though one part is right. That’s a point I have to give to you.
December 20, 2009 at 2:55 pm #8411If you are 47 Master Theobald than you are 8 years older than Chris Tubb at 39

The cardinal signs extracted from the Atlas of Middle Earth by Karen Wynn Fonstad
Formen (North); Hyarmen (South); Dûn (West) and Númen (East)
December 20, 2009 at 3:14 pm #841317n numen-west
33hy hyarmen-south
25r romen-east
9f formen-northDecember 20, 2009 at 3:24 pm #8414The correct order according to the enigma of Master Theobald, It would be in reverse order clockwise: north-formen, west-numen, south-hyarmen and east-romen/rhûn (in Quenya or Sindarin). Previously I wrote it wrong: Dûn instead Rhûn
The right thing because we are dealing with runes of Valinor is pronounced in Quenya, so Master Regalrick was right to say ‘Romen’ instead ´Rhûn´
December 20, 2009 at 4:00 pm #8415Alas that’s a hard one to decide …. Master Erchamion found the right source about the cardinal signs referring to Karen Wynn Fonstad. But then he still stuck to his idea that the compass is focused at the north (North, South, West, East – he said, right? Though that order doesn’t make much sense, does it?) And, by the way the word Dûn, as west, is wrong in here.
The better was Master Regalrick as he answered the question (more or less) correctly.
Let me explain, please.
The focus of the Valinor was west, so at least Earendil, the farer of seas, decided (in case you doubt that you might ask good old Cirdan) … anywaynúmen (West)
hyarmen (South)
rómen (East)
formen (North)That means Master Regalrick was right with the right order and reveiling the Elvish names.
I think that, as there are two points to be given for my first riddle, why not give both of them one point? (mind that Master Erchamion was the first to find out that the “runes” had nothing to do with any alphabet).December 20, 2009 at 4:06 pm #8416Let’s see …
M Regalrick 8 1/2
M Gildor 7 1/2
M Erchamion 7 1/2
M Barliman 3
M Protozeus 1
M Rita.de 1 -
