December 20, 2009 at 7:10 pm #8440Theobald wrote:Ah … why was I starting me second last entry with the words “Younger than ever…” There’s a sketch in which it was not Master Winterbottom saying this. But who said this?
(Of course no point for this riddle in case you can answer this question)James: Happy New Year, Sophie gal!
Miss Sophie: Mr. Winterbottom!
James: You look younger than ever, love! By gum, you look younger than ever, luv, younger than ever! Ha, ha, ha…
James is now showing the effects of his many toasts, weaving about and hesitating as he rounds the table. He takes Miss Sophie’s plate.
Miss Sophie: Please serve the chicken!
“The 90th Birthday or Dinner for One”
Don´t panic! I have no idea what this is. But the Internet has told me too… 😆¿54? I was completing the numbers …
December 20, 2009 at 7:13 pm #8441I do like homour, so why not pester you with another … alas … text message … rhuoomm

thanks to Mistress Truss for providing them text messages – but as Master Saunders said , language is limited
and so is mine … rhuoommmmDecember 20, 2009 at 7:35 pm #8442as for poor old James in ‘Dinner for One’ I feel pity with him every year as I watch that sketch with friends once a year at New Year’s Eve. The basic sentence in that sketch, I think is …
“Same procedure as every year? – Yes, James, same procedure as every year.”
You better watch the sketch than just find out some lines on the internet. Freddey Finton at his best.December 20, 2009 at 7:46 pm #8443Maybe 52 the same year Master Tubb was born (1952)
December 20, 2009 at 7:55 pm #844415 minutes to go …
Alas, master Erchamion, as by now I have known you as being an expert about that “Dinner” may you please tell which order of drinks and meals Misses Sophie is used to. You recognized Mister Winterbottom well … then there’s also the French Sir Toby … and, well .. Admiral van … (what is his name?) … see, I just could go on with these … anyway, that just was for fun … but mind the tiger in front of the fireplace … I’m just typing because I have to sit here until the riddle is solved … rhuoommm … 6 more minutes that is …December 20, 2009 at 7:55 pm #8445Theobald wrote:as for poor old James in ‘Dinner for One’ I feel pity with him every year as I watch that sketch with friends once a year at New Year’s Eve. Is tradition in Germany to see it in the New Year?
December 20, 2009 at 7:57 pm #8446Didn’t I say that The Man is year older than me … Master Regalrick?
December 20, 2009 at 7:58 pm #844758
December 20, 2009 at 8:03 pm #844858 means that you’re 59, Master Erchamion … that is incorrect as you might know yourself
December 20, 2009 at 8:07 pm #8449We’re talking about your age, Master Theobald, not mine. Incidentally, yesterday I was 36 years ….
51
December 20, 2009 at 8:12 pm #8450Thank you for that fast research about the ‘Dinner’. There’s all the text in the link you provided. But you should see it, not only read it. Once you did you will find out why this is my favourite sketch for a year to come. I know that this one is not known in English-speaking countries though it was produced there.
December 20, 2009 at 8:27 pm #8451Sorry I messed it up again …
The last riddle (nr was about my age and the difference between that and the age of The Man.
So far I’m right.
Did anyone witness the number 57 here?
No? That’s ok, nor did I.
So there will be no point for it.
About the difference Master Erchamion came close, but 51 definitively is wrong.December 20, 2009 at 8:47 pm #8452I gave away a point for Master Rita.de answering one part of my last riddle.
MR Tubb is about of the same age. Master Rita.de was about right, as a quarter of a year does not count much.
That means
– Master Regalrick 8 1/2
– Master Gildor 7 1/2
– Master Erchamion 7 1/2
– Master Barliman 3
– Master Rita.de 2
– Master Protozeus 1I would like to have confirmation about this. asap.
December 20, 2009 at 9:06 pm #8453A hard work this year’s riddle was again, that’s why I said this was my last one. Thank you all for the complements and support in between the lines. I wasn’t phishing for them at all.
The hardest thing about this riddle was to have an unexpected party to see the light, as you might understand. As that was thought of being the prize about more than one year ago. So in the end everything went fine about that. Though sometimes things cannot be hasted.December 20, 2009 at 10:05 pm #8454. . just returning from Master Bond (shown on German Television) . . .
Well, a little mistake there for hounorable Master Theobald. It must be:
Master James asked: “same procedure than LAST year, Miss Sophie? “And she answered: “same procedure as EVERY year James.”
And she is MISS Sophie ! There must be time for this . . .
The missing guest is Admiral von Schneider ! ( von Schneider, Sir Toby and Mr. Winterbottom….seems a bit like the three trolls . . . )
But there is also this Mr. Pommeroy . . .
Finally: a hard work this year´s riddle, exactly Master Theobald. But it was again very kind of you to give us the inventation for it! Thank you!
And congratuliations to everybody taken place here . . . and of course to Master Regalrick.PS: . . . white wine with the fish . . .
December 20, 2009 at 10:14 pm #8455but you have not solved my doubt, is a German tradition to see this sketck for New Year? It’s funny ….
December 20, 2009 at 10:25 pm #8456And that the Master Theobald also can participate in a Xmas riddle, and not just thinking about it, one question (out of competition, of course):
What´s the name of Celeborn´s son?
December 20, 2009 at 10:56 pm #8457Sorry, Master Erchamion, I do not have the time to look up about that who of Celeborn’s sons are … it always is difficult to me to answer riddles … rhuom … that’swhy I chose to ask riddles and didn’t choose to answer them … gruoouuummm .
As for that sketch, well, it has become a tradition in Germany … watching that sketch … most of the German broadcasting stations do reveil that right in time … huommm … starting at about 18 GMT … that’s always when the party starts … but it’s not a tradition … I’m just used to it for some 30 years …
yes, Master Rita.de … it always is white wine with the fish. But how do you spell the soup being served first?
Anyway, thank you all … I really did enjoy.December 20, 2009 at 11:13 pm #8458Huommm … Aragorn might be the correct name (as far as some Dwarves have recorded that name) .. though it was a long time ago …
December 21, 2009 at 12:08 am #8459Why worry? … This year again we have three winners.
Master Erchamion , Master Regalrick, Master Gildor.
I don’t think that they will be dis-amused to learn that again this year there’s a price for the three winners. So there’ll be a nice UP for all of you three from the tree.
(keep fingers crossed about the priming)
Thank you all … who took part in this. As I announced before, this was the last Christmas Riddle ever put by me. It´s not because of me or you. -
