Well here he is, I hope you like him Master Ent. I will post some other images although they are similar.

I wasn’t sure what colour the banner should be originally I painted it blue, but then read that they [K of DA] came in with gilded banners so I used artistic licence and painted it gilt (copper actually) as I felt I had too much blue already.

I left most of the Swan insignia white although reading the descriptions I’m not sure if they should be silver.

I do need to finish off the base once the glue has thoroughly dried, but being too hasty I wanted to let the good folk at the Pony a ‘finished’ Imrahil.

      David

p.s. the photos are a bit blurry – the wind always seems to blow up as soon as I start to take some photos!! 😡

Excellent Work! I wish I had the patience and motivation to paint all my miniatures. Anyway, great job and keep on painting!

Cheers JD, I wish I had the patience and motivation (lol) to finish all those figures that still need a bit of tender loving care, but I’m trying hard – before the eyesight gets too bad ;)

                  great job ddaines :)

If I have a little comment to say though… maybe having the same blue base for both tabard and saddle reduces the contrast of the figurine. making it maybe a bit too much cartoonist? but on another note I tend to paint all my miniatures quite darkly as I consider the worlf tolkien a quite dim or dark world even for the forces of light… (that’s why expert painters tend to say I do not “lighten my figurines enough”… they are… but If I put more light that would mess up with the overall “feeling”

The Master tree doesn’t even have his figures yet and we already see pics of the first painted one. Very nice indeed.

Master Daines clearly has too much time on his hands if he can spare enough of it to paint this figure so quickly. I shall have to see if I can find him a few chores to do. There’s always that pile of brown stuff in the stable that never seems to get any smaller…

You did a superb paint-job, David!!! Respect.
About the ‘correct’ details of colours I’m not sure myself. Your choice is excellent, I think. I also like the way you painted the horse very much!
Alas, how does it come that you’re always the first being able to show pics of newly released Ms and Mx figures? Master Barliman is right saying that you obviously have too much time on your hands to spend it for painting figures that quickly.
What annoys me about all this is that so far I still haven’t had the chance to hold one of those figures in my hands. 😡 Well, so I have to improve my patience still.

Thank you good folk for your comments, and you are right Gildor – I always start out to vary colours, but sometimes it doesn’t work out like that.

I tend to go for the darker look myself in most instances and usually give my Mithrils a wash of dark paint/ink as well. To be honest I spent most of my modelling career painting large scale figures so sometimes find it difficult to adopt the techniques used by the small figure painters.

Incidently the horse was shaded/dappled using chalk pastels which are very good for this effect.

Sadly I’ve had a bit of time on my hands as our poor little dog (actually he is a 9 stone (sorry I don’t do kilo’s) Bull Mastiff) has just had a serious [doggy] knee operation so I have grabbed the spare time when I can’t be doing anything else cos I’m looking after him ;) Well his pain is my gain.

Actually I have almost finished Thranduil as well – this would be a great figure for a ‘painter’ with keen eyesight as you can really go to town on the painting – alas I am coming to the conclusion that I may need to get my eyes tested as things are not focusing as well as they used to :(

You must be frustrated Master Ent to have engineered this figure and have to wait for yours while everyone else gets theirs.

I also think your paint job is excellent DD; and alas, I have yet to receive my Imrahil as well, Theo. Although I do suppose that extra time is needed for him to make it across the pond to America.

Well, Master ddaines, my frustration is not that difficult to cope with as I simply enjoy your (and not your’s only) appreciation of that figure at the moment. And, believe me or not, that’s what I wanted to achieve. So I just can sit back and enjoy your comments (and paint-jobs). It is a pleasant feeling, believe me. As you know I’m not hasty at all … so I can await patiently my Imrahil to get here. — Not even the travelling Elrond managed to to visit my place … though I know he will do once. :)

Well, I just finished my Thranduil and Imrahil about five minutes ago (and my tripod just arrived this week after a looong trip across the world). So tommorrow its make photo time!

But David’s work is a masterpiece. I am awed by his work.

Have to figure out the focus on the camera and play with the light, but I feel like I’ve been promising pictures for so long that I’d be labelled a liar :D

Every time I see these great painted figures, I feel this desire to dig out the brushes and the paint and start painting…. Hmmm the problem ist the limited time I have for these little guys. So many other things to do. There is a solution somewhere I’m sure.:)

Top notch Gavin, the figure looks great – I still find it a pain in the backside using the macro function to get close ups, the image seems to suddenly focus on something else right at the last minute and throw the figure out of focus.

Anyhow lets get Thranduil posted ;)

Absolutely. The camera my wife got has all sorts of automated features, so its really a question of guessing how the features will work this time. She’s able to take lovely pics of flowers and insects and things.

The tripod (when it finally arrived) helps a lot, but even then its pretty irksome.

RRRRrruuoommmmmm … I hope you enjoyed painting that piece of metal …. well-done, Gavin you also stressed the horse as being one of the royal-breeds. Chris decided to add that those details at the brows of the horse, because I asked him to sculpt that horse being definetily recognizable from those of the regular “Swan Knights”. Our intention was to fit the MX within the existant regualar release. So the banner had to be adjusted … as a new design. So I agreed with Chris to have bearing Imrahil a banner, rather more than a standard.
My original idea was to have an “Imrahil at the Pelennor Fields, greeting Minas Tirith, holding up the standard of the ‘Swan Knights’ after such a battle. So his armour has to provide this … the dashes in the helm, the shield, now rested at the horse’s side, the frayed banner, the pose of the horse standing on 4 feet, relaxing but being proud as Imrahil himself. Chris told me that this idea would give him a chance to sculpt what he likes most : giving a figure individual shape.
I do remember those days when we discussed whether the helmet should be at the head or rather ebing taken off after such a battle, just to breathe air again. I suggested having his (Imrahil’s) hair being knotted at the right, as Celtic warriors would do) … then Chis told me that we have to keep his hair flowing in the wind, as it gives a better impression of being relieved after lifting the helmet …
I cut off here now, I do hope you enjoy that miniature.
Alas, I would like to tell that all I comment on is based on pics you provided. So far I have got not a single Imrahil. But I would rather like to add that it was the same witht he Frumgar-MX’
I will comment on this within the next days …
                                            enjoy
