Dear people, this diorama is the biggest I have built so far, and it will be the only one . . . 😆
For that reason I will post a single topic for it and I will inconvenience you over the next days with a lot of more pics as I do usual.
Because it is the biggest diorama I have built.Everything starts in 2005 when I came to the conclusion to destroy the diorama you might know out of mithril´s fan gallery.

I went for holiday to Brittany, France. At the beach of Lagonna Daoulas and found the perfect granit-rocks to re-build the scene.

May 13, 2010 at 5:58 pm #9951After turning around millions stones I spent my holiday time for arranging them to get the “perfect” base for all those Orcs.
[imgz url=http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/32_001d.jpg]http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/thumbs/32_001d.jpg[/imgz]
Being back home I re-arranged the rocks again and again. Hoping to find the “perfect-scene”
[imgz url=http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/32_001g.jpg]http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/thumbs/32_001g.jpg[/imgz]
May 13, 2010 at 6:08 pm #9952This arrangement took more than four years.
I have to changed those rocks again ( I was at Lagonna-Daoulas another time . . . ), found columns and statues, ( a great thank you to the guys of “thomarillion” )
built stairs and portals, destroyed stairs and portals to build other stairs and turned around the design concept several times and vice versa . . .
The final result is that one below and I make my freedom with it.[imgz url=http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/32_0001.jpg]http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/thumbs/32_0001.jpg[/imgz]
May 13, 2010 at 6:59 pm #9954absolutely perfect so far … I can wait for more pics, as I’m not hasty
May 13, 2010 at 7:50 pm #9955… but there are many hasty people on board 😎
May 13, 2010 at 10:42 pm #9956It’s looking great and that’s without the figures , I hope you have a couple of Cave Trolls about your house to help you lift it up it must weigh a ton!
May 13, 2010 at 11:48 pm #9958Looking for the perfect rocks sounds like the ideal reason to go to a beach in France! Those are perfect (and perfectly arranged, too:). Couldn’t find any limestone closer to home? If the past is any indicator of the future, then this should be a special one. And BTW, what has happened with your finds at Thomarillian? Did they get the dreaded Cease and Desist from the land of shadow?
May 14, 2010 at 6:37 am #9966The base is awesome, it really looks like Moria!
I’ll stay tunned for updates
May 14, 2010 at 6:08 pm #9981Thank you gentlemen until this point. Let´s go ahead.
Arranging the orcs. That was a really toilsome operation.
First there must be something like a “concept-plan”. I arranged the orcs again and again.[imgz url=http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/32_moriaconcept.jpg]http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/thumbs/32_moriaconcept.jpg[/imgz]
My main problem was: what to do with all these orcs. There was the possibility of glueing them directly on the rock. But they were non-revisible than.
The other point was to drill wholes like the way the UP works, but this diamond-drill I bought didn´t give me a satisfiable result.
I consulted some of you friends here and came to the conclusion to cut little stone plates for each and single figure.[imgz url=http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/32_0003.jpg]http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/thumbs/32_0003.jpg[/imgz]
May 14, 2010 at 6:09 pm #9982There were fixed plates on the rocks. The single plates can be arranged around them – like a puzzle – and each single figure is revisible.
Although the position of each figure is stated![imgz url=http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/32_0002.jpg]http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/thumbs/32_0002.jpg[/imgz]

It was more than worth doing this, absolutely the right decision. So you can everybody show the magnificent back-side of the M 46 !
PS: and yes, David. It weighs 27 kilo !
May 14, 2010 at 7:52 pm #9985…. maybe this 27 kilo means that will be impossible to snitch this mithril treasure… which burglar will run with 27 kilo diorama through night across the street… just a joke … great pictures my friend…. simply great…
May 14, 2010 at 11:39 pm #9986My main problem was: what to do with all these orcs. Well, if you can’t find a solution I can provide my address!
But seriously, I love to see the details of an artist at work and his work in progress. I think if you continue at this rate you may have to rent a space for your Mithril Museum. I’d pay to see these in person you know!May 16, 2010 at 12:37 pm #10005That looks like German accuracy.
Plan it, look for the suitable pieces, built it, take it appart and improve it!
Bloody fantastic Master rita.de, or should we call you Master of the dioramas?May 16, 2010 at 5:13 pm #10010These words are very kind, Ken. Also yours, Holger.
So I think the little journey comes to end ent today. Returning from my mother´s birthday, filled up with many things.
I have made hundreds of pictures and realised that taking photographs it is as hard as building this diorama.
Seperating the better ones took also hours. Well, the following pics are my favourite ones and I hope you will experience the mood of this piece of work of mine.
Thank you for your interest to read all this and to watch all this.
It is because the Moria-diorama is the center part of my collection and that one with most of my energy and passion inside. Here comes the flood . . .
