Gandalf seated and Gandalf and Pippin on Shadowfax appear to be available now (at last)
September 26, 2022 at 9:04 pm #49525yeah and the return of the gray undercoat… but on resin… I must say I am curious to see the result
the weight will certainly make a big difference, and the mithril logo and copyright on the side of the base … I don’t like that, not diorama friendly…
September 27, 2022 at 2:26 pm #49526Having Gandalf and Pippin as the same piece as Shadowfax, that’s going to be ‘interesting’ to paint.
Why couldn’t they be separate? Other companies using 3d printing (Caballero Miniatures, for example) manage to have separate horse and rider.
I’m curious as well to see what the figures will look like with primer. It’s not as if removing it is going to be risk free, most (if not all) paint removers are damaging to resin.
September 27, 2022 at 11:24 pm #49527well that’s an… experimentation I suppose, I just hope it is a good one
I think other references may come as separate parts but using SLA 3D printing process, I suppose it is less costly to print the figurines altogether in a single shot… they simply do not have to “explode” the master 3D concept art into separate parts thus it means the 3D concept image is directly printed without any middle steps of creating parts…
drastically improves the production workflow…. though I wish it would have an impact on prices, as Chris told me it was the main ideay… reduces costs to have them more affordable… well, not yet the case…
September 28, 2022 at 12:22 pm #49528It will be interesting to see if they remove the support rods from the prints, or choose to leave them on as a form of delicate part protection. Having a 3D printer, I know that some delicate parts can quite easily snap when trimming and this will obviously put the onus on the collector to be careful (I am a fan of resin over metal by the way, but that is for modelling and not Collecting purposes).
RE reduction in prices – they are probably working on the same basis as some confectionary/food manufacturers whereby they reduce the size of the chocolate bar, but retain the same price; with chocolate bars they have the ‘limp’ excuse of thinking of customer health. Hopefully the Mithril stuff will see a price drop once it gets going and issues resolved.
September 28, 2022 at 12:28 pm #49529I was always annoyed (especially with the mounted Dol Amroth figures) when a horse and rider were cast together rather than separate. I would have purchased a lot more for a diorama had they been separate, but I didn’t fancy messing about with sawing metal.
At least one Mithril mounted figure (Mounted Nazgul) was separate then became one-piece castings.
September 28, 2022 at 6:42 pm #49531and actually I am still looking for the “one piece Nazgul”, ironically I have several “two pieces” one, but no “one piece” one 🙂
about 3D print, well I don’t know, SLA 3D print (resin bath) does not have the same “rods” as the extrusion 3D print
the Dol Amroth knights were not good at all but it also comes from the bad quality of the undercoat in addition of the single cast…
September 28, 2022 at 11:35 pm #49535Never liked the single casts. It’s a pain if you want to convert a mini.
September 29, 2022 at 3:11 pm #49536for people like me who like to paint parts with difficult angles before assembling, it is also quite a pain :/
September 29, 2022 at 4:18 pm #49538Is this the M146 Nazgul?
September 29, 2022 at 4:46 pm #49539yes, i am still looking for the “single piece” one 🙂
i have several “two pieces” of the nazgul though 🙂
September 29, 2022 at 6:00 pm #49540If this is the one, I have one if you want it 😉 – I don’t need it for anything that I will ever get around to doing.
