Or 1st part, page 29 is empty ?
October 29, 2011 at 6:54 am #21266Milo, the 1st isn’t empty, it’s just necessary to wait for a moment before it is loaded

October 29, 2011 at 1:37 pm #21269Huoooommmm …
I’m just back from a very pleasant, though short, holiday. What I just read might in parts be based on some misunderstandings and hasty emotions. Then some additional information about this catalogue, its intentions and the place of publication seems to be necessary.
As I can provide a good deal of information, also from Master Zoetrop’s latest emails, I’ll take some time tomorrow to do so — but not today … as I am a bit tired at the moment.October 29, 2011 at 4:16 pm #21270I just had a closer look at the catalogue and the pdf-downloads provided by Mithril (at last). At the moment I would like you to wait printing files/pages from the catalogue directly. That’s nonsense.
Master O’Brien obviously thought it’s nice to have an online-catalogue with turning pages. OK. Fine work. Though it’s not the intention. So what’s missing at the moment is the instruction how to order and fold the pdf-outprints correctly (two minor mistakes in the order of the pages have to be coped with, I see) to have a catalogue being printed on the paper you wish, in the quality of pics you wish and take it to a bindery or copyshop, whatever you like. Just to have a catalogue (that thing printed, where you have to use your hands to turn pages and which is just present in a bookshelf or at your Mithril-workplace). For free.
October 29, 2011 at 4:39 pm #21271Gildor,
I’m sure I got you right and I can fully understand your disappointment about Mithril. I do share many of those disappointments you referred to. I also have not received my figures via autoshipment, but that’s a minor matter. You asked about using your database with all its links and possibilities to use it. – I do use it a lot and very often. It’s brilliant.
I don’t have to remind you of what you did and achieved and improved after dear Mithrandir (Marc Campbell) went into the void. So, let me here thank you for that in public, Gildor.October 30, 2011 at 10:02 am #21274So, as I promised I would like to pass on some statements about the catalogue which Master Zoetrop made.
Firts of all he says that his catalogue was never intended to be a substitute nor meant to rival Gildor’s database, and he prefers things being printed, so that you can hold them in your hands. then …
“Fact is that I highly value Gildor’s work and his website – especially because of the forum. I use it very often, though passively. Of course I appreciate very much the massive work Gildor put into his website.
I do understand his anger against Mithril very well, as the company so far never really honoured his work for Mithril.”
Then he pointed out two reasons why he decided to have his catalogue being released on the official Mithril-website:
“1st – I hope that the catalogue might meet more interested people. I can imagine that there still are some non-active collectors from the past who could be re-activated that way. These people we can’t contact via MMP.
2nd – I wanted to avoid any conflict with Mithril copyrights. [Zoetrops catalogue includes signs and original pictures from Mithril] By publishing the catalogue via Mithril-website this could be avoided. That wouldn’t have been the same with publishing the catalogue via MMP.In the end we do all want the same, that Mithril might prosper again and we will still have the possibility in the future to purchase new wonderful miniatures sculpted by Chris and provided by Mithril.”
That’s how Herbert thinks about this matter.
October 30, 2011 at 11:23 am #21276I feel obliged to add some more information about that catalogue as my name was unintentionally reveiled in connection with the publishing of the catalogue.
Some years ago I got into contact with Master Zoetrop and we learned that we had similar visions about a complete Mithril-catalogue being made, as there was none. Zoetrop then kept a lot of material for that, including his always up-to-date price lists he has been working on for so many years by now. It was him who did all that work alone. I was glad to hold the first catalogue (2009) in my hands after a few copies were printed (by the way, they were 30,00 € each, because of the low edition). He then tried to contact Chris Tubb and Mithril offering to release his catalogue for free, as that always was his intention. He never wanted and still doesn’t want to make money out of that. The reaction was negative, as there were ideas that a catalogue should be based on black and white pictures of the same quality.
Of course this a serious argument which I clearly can understand. – Though by now time has taught some of us that such a challenge is about to be impossible to be realized, as it requires all original figures unpainted at one place to be photographed by a professional photographer. Just imagine …
So, then I gave Zoetrop one of that extra sets of the MX-UP just to reward him for all his work and effort. He wasn’t willing to accept it that way and gave me 6 of his first catalogues in return. Those I gave away to some members here, asking for reactions or reviews. All were definitely positive. – Zoetrop’s idea originally was to release that catalogue once a year with uptdated price lists and releases.
While completing his second edition of the catalogue he contacted me again asking if I could help writing some emails for offering the catalogue again. We were not hopeful at all about any success then, because of the former negative reactions. In spite of that I tried contacting Chris Tubb and Lars Edman about this matter. It took some time, because all had a lot to do with copyrights and things like that. Finally both agreed to have the catalogue being published. I remember Chris saying something like “better to have it published that way than not having a complete catalogue at all”.
The present catalogue is called 2010, though it’s incorrect. In this edition there are also the first MS-figures 2011 listed and the price list is 2011. I also like that Zoetrop decided to add pictures of Master Turambar’s dioramas which show what could be achieved with those nice figures.I’ll try to contact Michael O’Brien next week about these slight mistakes in the order of the pages and asking him to add some instruction about how to print the pdf-catalogue correctly.
… but, as you might know, I cannot haste everything … right?
oh, just see, it’s me, the tree … 3500th entry … alas, talkative I really am …October 30, 2011 at 1:25 pm #21277most excellent … the tree has got down to the roots of the matter once again, cheers.
October 30, 2011 at 2:21 pm #21278Merci theobald for making everything clear and happier.

October 31, 2011 at 1:19 pm #21303Herbert and I witnessed some mistakes in the online catalogue (not in the pdf-files, of course). The pages are not always in the correct order, one page is double, another one missing. I hope Michael can find the time to correct that soon.
Then I thought it could be of some help to give some information about how to print the cataloge. I hope that’s ok doing it here, as I don’t know if Michael might include some instruction.
So …
The pdf-files are DIN A-4. To save some paper it’s best to print them on both sides. Then there are 174 pages on 87 sheets of paper. Only the front and the back cover have a blank backside (I hope the word is correct). The correct order of the pages is:part 1 (introduction) pages I – XVI
catalogue: pages 1 – 144
part 3 (appendix) pages XVII – XXVIThen you can let all that being bound (?) to have a catalogue in your hand (in case your PC doesn’t work this could be useful, and besides there still are people who like to turn pages themselves).
So, that’s it. I think this has been done (except that Michael O’Brien has to correct some minor mistakes in the online catalogue). Cheers.October 31, 2011 at 1:22 pm #21304Ahhh … Master Thingol, it’s not me to thank, it’s Master Zoetrop who did all the work. He’s often visiting this site passively, so he’ll know.

October 31, 2011 at 7:55 pm #21318bind them all 😆
November 1, 2011 at 1:04 am #21328one catalog to rule them all! 😆
November 2, 2011 at 4:02 pm #21363So, by now all the mistakes in the online catalogue are corrected. Now that’s done.
