Oh, I actually knew the Luthien Tinuviel (with accents above the u’s) one, but I’m too late. JRR Tolkien Artist and Illustrator is one of my favorite books. Master Tolkien was quite an artist.
The horse is an early version of Imrahil’s (the MX). Notice how the head is tilted a little to the left and the hind right leg is a little in front of the left, but where is the tail?
I have no idea how much M7 was originally. That’s before my time.
November 2, 2008 at 9:04 pm #3538Hey, that horse looks like a stout pony to me (though I admit this is a wild guess!). If it is a sculpt for Imrail, I’d be surprised. So, I’m going to say it’s Sam’s-Bill the pony, formerly owned by Bill Ferny! The M7’s original price depends on the currency in vouge at the time. Here in America, it was $1.89 USD!
November 2, 2008 at 9:30 pm #3539Alas …. rhuuoommm … hasty you are …. huoommm … let’s have a look … huoommm …
so far I witness that Master Ddaines was first to mention those 99p for that figure … huoomm …
(though it relied on memory and not on research) … so there’s a point for Master Ddaines ….
Hom … then the first correct answer referring to that very early state of Imrahil’s horse was made by Master Gildor mentioning the MX463 … hom … so it’s another point that has to be given … hom …. as he was first ….
I think the third point is for Mistress Wendy for the nearly correct spelling of that name …. huoomm … Lúthien Tinúviel [mind the correct spelling]… (yes, the second of the two designs it was) ….
rhuoomm … I am aware that Master ddaines mentioned the name ‘Luthien’ first, but I asked for a complete name and a correct spelling …. that’s why Master Gildor came closer spelling “Luthien Tinuviel” … rhuoomm … though he forgot about the stresses for the syllables … which Mistress Wendy recognized saying “with accents above the u’s” … rhruommm …I would like to receive your acceptance about this … huoommm … or your disapproval …
Let’s see:
Master Kenakko 3 points
Master Rita.de 1 point
Master Ddaines 1 point
Master Gildor 1 point
Mistress Wendy 1 pointHuoommm … I know somehow this is unfair … but I dunno how to do it better …. time permitting … rhuoommm homhom ….
don’t forget about the horses of the chariot ……….
November 2, 2008 at 10:55 pm #3540Good eye Ken!

Of what is there to disapprove? It’s all in good fun, so you’ll hear no complaints from me.
Perhaps the horses will end of being a tie-breaker? I know I’m stumped.
November 9, 2008 at 1:34 pm #3550Huoommmm … as it has become more or less silent around here I would like to add some questions … it’s just because I think I have to do so for providing more chances to get a point, so to say … huoommm … I do remember that I said that the December question will be the final one … hom … so it will be … but as there still are no ideas about those horses of the chariot I think I have to give those who still are interested more chances, right? …
So here’s another question that can be solved easily …Once I met two trees … me, tree, resting on a bench … so we were three … well, I’m known as Theobald, what are the names of the others?
You see, two names that means two points … so everybody has the chance to catch up with Master Kenakko … huommm … give me some time and I will have a further question being put here …. huoommm …
November 9, 2008 at 1:52 pm #3551huoommm …. another point can be given for the one who can tell the name of the person this quotation is about …. hom …. ahem …
“There was one picture in particular which bothered him. It had begun with a leaf caught in the wind, and it became a tree; and the tree grew, sending out innumerable branches, and thrusting out the most fantastic roots. Strange birds came and settled on the twigs and had to be attended to.”
Rhuoommm…. nice, isn’t it? On the other hand it’s a simple riddle. I couldn’t resist quoting this one as I do like trees …. rhuoomhom
November 9, 2008 at 1:53 pm #3552any more ideas about them horses?

Niggle, the painter.
November 9, 2008 at 4:37 pm #3555Welcome Protozeus, with that you were right … it was from “Leaf by Niggle” and is about how to paint a leaf of a tree … impossible that is,of course …. huoommm …. it’s worth a point for you.. hooommm.
November 9, 2008 at 4:47 pm #3556Theobald wrote:Once I met two trees … me, tree, resting on a bench … so we were three … well, I’m known as Theobald, what are the names of the others?Humm, one name could be “tree” and one might be “bench”, some kind of refined (or tortured) tree beneath the living one … ?
November 9, 2008 at 5:19 pm #3557One tree could be the Tree of Life ;the other the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.Fitting for the Wisest of Ents.
November 9, 2008 at 5:53 pm #3558huoommmm … ney … sorry, but I was asking for the names (also biological termination might fit here as half a point) of the trees … huoommm … I’m sorry, but I have to provide this riddle until some people on the other side of the globe might decide to wake up …. huoommm … so why not give them a chance …. (this is the most complicated matter about me riddles … giving everybody a fair chance) …. huoommm ….
alas …. Master Protozeus, could you really imagine a tree being involved in torturing … we never even considered such behaviour at our meetings … rhuuuooommmm … insult is not being taken … rhuoommm ….
As for you, Master Regalrick, I state that you are more into a philosophical way of answering … huoommmm … you might go on that way but it will not help you to name the names … rhuoomm …. alas, thank you for the compliment, by the way …. huooommmNovember 9, 2008 at 8:10 pm #3559I will be less philosophical and name “Telperion” a silver leafed maple(acer saccarinum) and” Laurelin” a False Acacia(robinia pseudoacacia frisia) which some call a Black Locust.Metopolophium Festucae on a bench?
November 9, 2008 at 9:33 pm #3560Huooommm … Telperion was one of those two and Laurelin was the other … huoomm … the silver-leaved maple Telperion was exactly named … as the False Acacia named Laurelin also was recognized precisely …. rhuoomm … but what is a “Metopolophium Festucae on a bench” …? That bench was provided by the Tolkien Society and the Mythopoeic Society near those two trees in the University Parks in good old Oxford in 1992 ….. a nice place to contemplate, by the way …. huooommm
Alright, these two points are yours, Master Regalrick … hooomm … congrats …November 10, 2008 at 8:37 am #3562Well, this was really enlightening, I bow before your wisdom, Master Regalrick.

December 5, 2008 at 8:21 pm #3741Alas, it’s time for the last question of this year’s Christmas riddle, isn’t it.
So far I witnessed :Ken: 3 (both figures + base)
David: 1 (price)
Gilgor: 1 (horse)
rita.de: 1 (chariot)
Wendy: 1 (Lúthien Tinúviel)
protozeus: 1 Niggle (the painter)
regalrick: 2 (two tees)Please let me know in case my records are incorrect.
In case I do not receive any complaints about incorrect records I will put the last riddle this weekend here. It might be very late in Europe, too early in Australia or both of it in different parts of the US.Alas, calculating those points that have been given so far and the one for this last riddle, it might turn out that the correct answer about those chariot-horses might decide.
December 6, 2008 at 10:46 pm #3762No criticism so far … well, then I have to provide my last question for 2008:
Who were they that never saw the “Light of the Trees” and how were they named?
(There have to be two correct answers to this question)
[This is the last chance to find out about them chariot-horses for another point]
This year’s riddle will be finished immediately as my last question isn’t difficult at all.
December 6, 2008 at 11:13 pm #3763those are the elves that never went to Valinor, they are from several clans, Teleri which then subdivided into Falathrim and Sindar, Nandor etc… while Noldor and Vanyar went to Valinor…
Usually those who did not see the light were called by the high elves : the Moriquendi (elves of the night)… as opposed to the Calaquendi who saw the light and dwelt (at least for a time) in Valinor.
Later the name “moriquendi” was used for elves dwelving in middle earth who were not sindar or noldor in exile as this term was offensing for them… (because noldor had seen the light indeed… and the sinda king Elwë, though he remained in middle earth, had visited valinor with his fellow Ingwë and Finwë) -
