puuhhh, too quick for anybody else. . . I suppose, master Theobald, master Gildor gets the point. And I suppose also, that there is no point for that.
December 7, 2008 at 12:24 am #3766This is a correct answer, Master Gildor, as those were the “Moriquendi” (Elves of the … ahem .. Darkness). Your precise explanation is great, Gildor. (It didn’t surprise me coming from those wandering Elves)
With this you’re second, at level with regalrick, but still Ken is one point in front of you.
So, congratulation, Ken … (well, he has got that same old chariot-version from someone who did it … but I couldn’t know about that … but he confessed that those parts of the chariot are with him … but even Ken couldn’t find out abot those horses.)
So what am I to do about prizes?
Well, I think it would be best to give three (<- th not: tree) to choose from:
– Imrahil MX463-variant (sword up)
– Galadriel (MA1) antique finish (boxed in a blue carton)
– 4 Dwarves (Mw346) “bodyguards”
So I think it’s Ken to take the first choice.I hope you enjoyed this year’s riddles. And I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas! <--ey, all of you I said.
alas … and a Happy New YearDecember 7, 2008 at 12:14 pm #3772you would give away your MA1 antique finish ?!? is everything already master tree or has winter shivered your leaves a bit too much?
December 7, 2008 at 2:22 pm #3778Well, Gildor, as you might know me by now you shouldn’t consider me as being untrustful … nay.
Winter has not ripped off all of my leaves and certainly not parts of my brain ….that Lady is the one being offered on Ebay some time ago. I recognized her as being one of the few with the antique finish. Of course I contacted the seller before buying it – just to be sure about the origin.
Then, of course I definitely will not give away my MA1Galadriel-version (which reads nr.1). But what to do with a spare one? (in that odd blue box that was later used for the first MS-releases)
Of course you can have the one I offered, as you’re the first one to react on my riddle.December 7, 2008 at 2:27 pm #3779well…have reached one point ! Nevertheless this is the time to give you a great congratulation, Master Theobald, for enjoying us with this riddle.
It was one occasion more to dive into the complex world of Mister Tolkien and to learn a lot of things concerning the wonderful world of middle earth.
By the way- who knew about Moriquendi and where is the short cut on my apple to put two points on an ” e ” .
And the prizes . . . magnificent ! Well done, Master Tree . . .December 7, 2008 at 3:01 pm #3780I’ll wait for Ken to give his choice master tree but as I already have the Imrahil and the dwarves indeed my choice would go to the Galadriel but I’ll wait my turn
December 7, 2008 at 3:44 pm #3781I am reminded of the time I hit a $600 jackpot on a 5 cent slot machine in Las Vegas, but I digress…I have been amazed at the generousity of the Master Tree. I have benefitted twice before. Please watch your mail for a slight ‘returing gift’ Master Tree. He absolutely right about the chariot and the extra point I felt a bit unfair about gaining having “inside” knowledge about this. I tried to even the score by not responding to any of the other questions to balance this (even though I could answer 2 of them) and not inquiring with the chariot maker as to the sources of the horses. That part of the riddle shall remain. If regalrick can use Imrahil, then Gildor shall have his prize!
December 7, 2008 at 5:22 pm #3786Thank you for this wonderful riddling series, Master Theobald!
December 7, 2008 at 5:56 pm #3788So well done to the winners and if karma could be given on this site then the Tree and Ken should each get one. Master Theobald for his generosity and Ken for his integrity
So who were the horses by or have I missed the answer through supping too much ale?
December 7, 2008 at 10:17 pm #3795Yessss- I have to say that Master Protozeus speaks from my soul. The chariot ! Fantastic !
I remember that Estel had also mentioned his passion concerning the “wain-riders” before as for themselves mentioned somewhere in the lost tales, the early years of Eorl. I think- by the way one of my favourite themes in that book.
Yes- what a great thing would have been that if realized by THE MAN. A wain-rider chariot. Somebody should have make serious trains of thought about this.
I remember when I first saw TheobaldĀ“s pics of the chariot I started to shiver . . .December 8, 2008 at 1:59 am #3796Congratulations Gildor on becoming a father. I respect your choice for Galadriel and also Ken’s choice for the Dwarves. I would be honoured to accept the Imrahil MX463-variant (sword up) from the most generous Master Theobald.Thank you Wisest of Ents for an entertaining and informative challenge.”Tree-mendous!
Happy Festive Season to all.December 8, 2008 at 5:47 pm #3799Well, so this year’s riddle seems to be done by now. I’m very much thankful that you three winners have agreed so hastily about the figures. Let me just think it over, please, as I do not want to make a mistake.
That’s the Dwarves for Ken. Then the Galadriel for Gildor. And the Imrahil for regalrick. Right?
Then I have to admit that (though I planned differently) I will not be able to send those in time for Christmas, but will do so as soon as possible.
I would like to thank Ken for holding back his answers for the last riddles. But, as we saw, it didn’t help him much in not winning. It was a very nice gesture to do so, as he felt a bit like cheating. I can confirm he wasn’t.
Oh, then about that word I had to read a bit too often. I am not generous, please. Could you rather regard my activity as something that pleases me most? I do enjoy this, believe me. A long time ago (sic!) I tried to explain that with this I do feel a bit more hobbit-like. They give others on birthdays, don’t they? At least it is a common practice in the Shire, as far as I know.December 8, 2008 at 6:12 pm #3802You know, reading this thread really makes me feel good! All of you wonderful people are why I continue to collect mithril. I really appreciate the generosity of everyone, because it isn’t just about collecting, it is about making friends.
I know that I don’t know some of you as well as others, but let me say this, it is great to be associated with all of you in one way or another. Thanks.December 8, 2008 at 6:57 pm #3804Thanks, Marshal. Nice words indeed as they also explain why I’m present here.
Alas … I nearly forgot to inform about those horses. Well, I received that many parts of the chariot. There were also additional pieces added (people and horses). So I had some choice.
One day I decided to choose and add all those parts. For me that was pure joy. I hope you accept that I do not give away the name of the person who ‘invented’ this conversion, as he asked me not to do so. I do hope that you can respect that.
When I asked him about all those different parts he used he told me about the horses that they were taken from the ‘fantasy series’ from Prince August, called “nightmare horses”. I decided to leave away those funny decoration on teirs heads, as it reminded me too much of some circus-horses (or even the ones Ramses II was believed to have for his chariots – some palm-like additions at the head of the horses).
I just chose to make that chariot the center of my Christmas riddle, because I really enjoyed having finished, once I had more time than I have now. Some parts of that, let me call it vignette, are of Resin and some are casted in metal. In the end I just tried to unite those different materials giving all a Mithril-like undercoat. That was a bit difficult. Then I added the leashes myself.
So, “Nightmare Horses” by PA would have been the correct answer.
That’s all there is to say at the moment. Thank you all.
So, you see that there’s no need to talk about my generosity, as there so much and many was given to me. Yes, the Falconer, too, Holger.December 8, 2008 at 8:29 pm #3809Hear, hear about the good company and all! Well it was a nightmare to try and identify those horses! Has anyone ever tried to ID an unmarked mini?!! There are few databases and fewer still with good illustrations! Old PA stuff, eh? I should have guessed! Now let’s race over to the Pony and run up a huge tab. I’ll see if Barli will fall for the old “I, er, seem to have left my wallet on my horse…I’ll be right back!”
December 8, 2008 at 10:31 pm #3813reading the JasonĀ“s post, I have to thank him for his warm words. That is completely what I am thinking. And there is an agreement of Theobald as well.
Yes it is a pleasure being here under all these like-minded fellows. Happy Christmas
Finally: thank you Master Theobald for the missing information about the horses. I am waited for this weeks . . .December 11, 2008 at 1:34 pm #3829I tried to contact regalrick by PM. So far there’s no reply. I hope he’s well. I still need his postal address for sending him the Imrahil. He should contact me privately asap, please.
December 11, 2008 at 4:33 pm #3834I am well Master Ent though I need to adjust my sight a little from all the glare of the bright lights.I’ve made haste to dispatch a private message.
December 11, 2008 at 5:12 pm #3835HUoommhom … yes, so you did.
