For those who are interested in and still in need of that wonderful “Elf princesse”-vignette. I just saw that it’s offered again on Ebay by Phaeton design. There really can’t be many left of those excellent vignettes. Maybe it’s even the last one.
September 25, 2009 at 1:35 pm #7090I think all of these figures are overpriced!😆
But on the other hand all of them are priceless!!
September 25, 2009 at 1:39 pm #7091I was won on M74 guys I hope you were not lose bidding on it… sorry… for this “Elf princesse” I’m interested so we will see how fast will be my finger for approximately 6 days !?!?!?!?
September 25, 2009 at 1:42 pm #7093Is it always always so dense traffic on our MMP forum after Chris auctions ?
September 25, 2009 at 1:44 pm #7094Well done on ebay Master Thingol….
Keep the fingers crossed for the next ones.
I got my fingers on some too, but not the obvious ones ….September 25, 2009 at 1:50 pm #7096….
and soon you’ll receive one e-mail my Master… with some nice picture… 😆 maybe this evening
September 25, 2009 at 2:17 pm #7097If so, then I’ll have a look tomorrow, because at my end it’s 12.15 and bedtime for me…but I’m looking forward seeing the pics
September 25, 2009 at 6:16 pm #7100It was M73 (Caravan guard mounted on camel) someone bade for, Thingol. The M74 also is a Caravan guard – but on foot. The last one wasn’t offered on Ebay these days.
So, Thingol, did you get that camel-rider?September 25, 2009 at 6:43 pm #7101Thingol, about the vignette of the “Elf Princess and maidens” (PM1) I just can tell that this the first one of three vignettes, based on situations referring to the novel. This one depicts Arwen sewing the banner for the king to come. You might have a look at Gildor’s database, he helped me to put up those pics there. The vignette is rare … just a few castings … about less than 40 … if I do remeber well …
September 25, 2009 at 7:42 pm #7102There has to be more than 40 floating around. I, myself, have two!
It’s a gorgeous piece, nonetheless.
September 25, 2009 at 9:30 pm #7103No I get M74 for sure… and camel rider I already have … I was waiting to buy this M74 ( guy on foot ) to paint them together… so I’m hoooommmrhooooooooooommm sure
and for this vignette I know that this is rare Chris master piece so my motive to win is bigger… and it grows…
Master Gavin so you are the lucky guy 😆
September 25, 2009 at 11:24 pm #7104If I remember right the elven princess vignette has been offered to me by Jim Corless !
September 26, 2009 at 6:54 am #7105I am also considering bidding seriously on the Princess. But I do not think this vignette is limited in the MW or MS way (was never stated as such to my knowledge); it was offered several times by CT, and I suppose he can cast and sell new instances at will. But my musings should not stop anyone …
Some additional findings:
First time on ebay there were 64 copies. Descriptive text stated: “This is the first of an occasional series of vignettes that I am releasing under the Phaeton brand. It is one of a number of pieces that I have made over the years , which for one reason or other did not get produced by any manufacturer. Usually the reason for this ( as was the case with this vignette) was that the designs were too delicate or complex for the mass production process. I have had a couple of hundred of these vignettes cast for me by a small company, some of which I am selling on Ebay.”
September 26, 2009 at 8:42 am #7106So according to this information seems to be that we would have more opportunities to but this vignette even if we loose on this auction… depending how many of these hundred copies are left… in CT room….
storage… or drawer….September 26, 2009 at 8:53 am #7107Yeah, but best would be to ask CT if this info (from 2006) is still valid.
September 26, 2009 at 10:18 am #7108If I remember right, Chris had 250 of this vignette made. I myself have given him a quote for casting figures for the Phaeton brand. I’m not 100% sure, but I believe parts of the mould for this vignette are broken, therefor to cast with it would produce a incomplete set.
I have to have a look if I still have the info… dig deep they say….September 26, 2009 at 10:38 am #7109There is a second chance to get Fram! Mr. Godet offers him. Look under the following item no: 330360926229
Hurry, it ends on sunday!September 26, 2009 at 1:03 pm #7110I really do not know about the exact number of castings of the “Elf Princess and maidens” vignette (PM1), as Mr Tubb gave me the first casting of that vignette. That can be recognized as such below the base, I think. It was never offered by Mithril as it was the first of the vignettes offered by ‘Phaeton’ (cf Gildor’s database)
Protozeus, your quotation is absolutely correct but incomlete.
Yes, the vignette was on Ebay at least two times as it didn’t sell well in the first attempt. Let me try to remember:
In September 06 there were 64 vignettes offered by Phaeton on Ebay for 55 GBP each as a ‘buy-it-now’ item. Shortly after that they were re-listed on Ebay for 35 GBP. The reason for that was that many collectors contacted The Man saying that they could not afford the price. So he reduced it (still I don’t know why, but it shows his concern about collectors).
He suggested those buyers who bought the vignette for 55 GBP to either giving a credit of 20 GBP or giving a second vignette instead. – You see, that’s why Gavin has got two, if I’m right.
Now I would like to complete Protozeus’ quotation:“Please note – I am re-listing this item at a lower price. Many collectors have contacted me to say that they cannot afford the high price of the new vignette. Although such a short run – a little over 200 until the mould finally tore – obviously necessitates a higher cost (I do need to make some money on this), I do not want the price of this item to prevent collectors from being able to obtain it. I have therefore reviewed my costings and have decided to reduce the price to 35 GBP/set. To make up my costs I have have decided to retain the last 50 or so sets for auction rather than sell them at a fixed price as I first intended.”
Huoommm … I hope this might answer some questions here.
Master Caster, you don’t have to dig deep …September 26, 2009 at 2:11 pm #7112Thank you Wisest of Ents!
You are always know for your knowlage!
I have to bow my head!September 26, 2009 at 2:13 pm #7113Absolutely correct, Master Theobald. I was quoting the first Ebay auction; you are giving the additional information from an email sent a few days later, which I have also uncovered and can completely confirm, as of now.
