I totaly agree with Elroi’s statement about mithrils weaknesses and strenghts.
By the way, congratulation Master for golden win for Fantasy with mithril diorama. I am not sure if this has ever been achieved before !
December 20, 2012 at 1:31 pm #26501Thanks a lot, Master Milo. It´s my intention to go to bigger events with mithrils, and see what happen
December 20, 2012 at 2:35 pm #26504A bit too late so I will try
Yourself Master Caster?December 20, 2012 at 2:40 pm #26505elroi wrote:Mithril miniatures are easier to paint than lots of other brand ones: this is, you can paint them (with a very good final result) in a short time comparing with the more complex modern miniatures. And is not necessary to be an expert painter to achieve good results. The problems are others:IMHO, the reason is that Mithrils are just simpler or whith less details than modern miniatures (but the elegance of the style, the realism of the poses, the great variety of the range and of course, the fidelity to the original Tolkien´s ideas are still strong points supporting them).
Because they do not get lot of (oversized) details and are realistic, I have to paint like on nearly blank papersheet.
It’s not a negative critic but a postive one. As for the reprsentation of Mithril in contests, I have to congratulate.December 20, 2012 at 3:12 pm #26506i have some guesses, but I won’t participate here as it is a contest and well, I already have two Morlas myself, that would be unfair:(
December 20, 2012 at 4:34 pm #26509Two Morlas miniatures? – So let me guess, one is primed and the other is not. Right, Master Gildor?
December 20, 2012 at 5:26 pm #265111-Congratulations Master Roi!
in fact, it’s not a surprise because MITHRIL Tolkien’s relative figures are very different than the so-many-times-painted GW!
and it’s introduction for the second point:
2-That’s sure that actually, we are accustomed to have very detailed figures (even a lot of 1/72 are best sculpted than the 32mm MITHRIL….),
So I agree with you: the quality of the M figures is on the other side: accuracy with the books and not the movies, more poetical, dramatical, well more “tolkientical”
3-I’ve painted both, and I can say that the MITHRIL focus the attention on a different side of the painting: shading, light, colours mainly.
With the GW ones, the difficulty is to paint well all the details so I pay less attention at those points.(and maybe for the final result, it’s not very important!)(with 1/72, it depends of the manufacturers: I focus more on the details, the colours and a quite easy shading, in my opinion.)
At least, it’s important to show them, they are so different and nice! and they are not very well knew!
and if they are not expensive yet on e-bay for example (generally) it’s good for me!
I’ve just bought a large range of figures and I was the only bidder!
Fortunately for the seller, I’ve said him that I was a collector and a painter and he replied that he was happy that his doubles go in the hands of another passionate collector!December 20, 2012 at 6:13 pm #26512mmhh I’m not sure, but it may be so
I own one of the three first castings, and then one of the recasts. that’s all I know.
December 20, 2012 at 11:54 pm #26514That’s exactly what I guessed, Gildor, and that’s why I asked. – So now I know who has the third of the first three (primed) castings, though I might have guessed
And yes, I also keep a second unprimed one of the recasts. With this I do remember well that it was you convincing The Man to have those limited recasts which then were offered to serious MMP members or collectors.December 21, 2012 at 6:44 am #26516hsf62 wrote:The Question:Who was the dude who gave me the name Master Caster?
Well, you will not be able to find him in the east! 😆The one who first posts the right name will get the little gritter!
Have fun searching here on MMP!Could be Mistress Wendy?

January 5, 2013 at 12:53 pm #26675Many Lots from Australia again.
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=mithril&_sacat=0&LH_PrefLoc=0&cmd=Blend&_ssn=lordlanto&LH_TitleDesc=0Please ladies & gentlemen, let me win [mith]PM1[/mith] auction as I really really really want this one.
I noticed something which makes me smile, 2 base were painted … by me, long time ago back in 90’s, before I made Aragorn’s leave taking diorama.
January 5, 2013 at 3:33 pm #26680Be sure, I won’t interfere, Master Milo. — and well, 256 USD is quite a lot, isn’t it? I did not see that.
January 5, 2013 at 4:55 pm #26681Thanks Master Theobald. Orc Warband very high price was witnessed by Master Turambar (bottom page 101).
