This takes me back to my childhood when collecting trading cards that used to come with bubble-gum, and/or a tube of white glue for sticking the card into an album depending on what I was collecting at the time. The hope and the passion of buying yet more packets desperate for the missing card to be enclosed gave a sense of excitement you folk must be feeling when another Mithril drops into place and a gap is filled.
I’m not in the hunt for missing Mithrils, but it is good to see a member filling gaps in their collections
April 11, 2011 at 11:01 pm #16753talking about that… some research MAY have lead me to a collector with one of the prototypes I am looking for…
I fear alas… it will be only a matter of money… and I don’t think I’ll be able to get my hands on it
too bad… but nothing is played yet…
it may takes months of negociations… hard negociations…. but well it’s always about big money now… alasApril 12, 2011 at 10:15 am #16756ddaines wrote:imisel wrote:shadyt wrote:I hope that everyone got something that they wanted at Chris’s auction today. What a Nice Words you have said, make me smile
Well, I feeling at this moment like when I was younger… Basically, along my life I’ve collected a lot of this (stamps, comics, trading-cards…) but Mithril miniatures is the oldest (not the longest, I have tons of comics around here, but with no doubt the most valuable) collection I have (I started it, if I remember well, late in 1992). Coming back on last two years to collect them it’s giving me great joy! Almost other collections, I’m selling most of them (well, not books or some comics that are very special for me), but I’m almost sure that I never give up of this magnificent items.

April 14, 2011 at 6:13 am #16775new goodies from C.T. here: (mx421 and Dwar of War prototype included!!!):
April 14, 2011 at 6:16 am #16776You just beat me to listing it!
But I wonder where this one was “found”?

Wich one… the mx or the prototype, Maese Barliman? (Well I’m interested in both, but more in mx… )
April 14, 2011 at 7:23 am #16778Definitely the MX, since they are supposed to have been produced in a limited number and the moulds then destroyed (I think this has probably been discussed somewhere before, but it still strikes me as odd). And don’t the figures produced “belong” in some sense to the patron who sponsored the project?

I don’t believe that I could get this one.. It will finish too expensive for me, and at this moment, I’m centered on complete oldest “M” range.
April 14, 2011 at 7:27 am #16780Maybe.
April 14, 2011 at 7:30 am #16781I may have the answer to all of these questions…
it comes along with a soon to be released on ebay never seen before never heard of miniatures….
it is a matter of… attic… as master Milo is familiar with treasures one can find in attics…. even C.T has an attic and makes some discoveries he did not remember he had…
that explains the .. once again not so unique …. dwar of waw… and the MX which, as the first MX to be released, may have had several castings and maybe the definition rules that were set for the MX range did not apply to THIS one because it was already created, casted, and test-casted…
now that’s only my theory, but you all know that in order to TEST the casting capacities done by MITHRIL, CT has always made his OWN test castings with his own test material for casting (that he uses for non-mithril releases) this allows him to validate the fact one of his creation won’t have casting problem PRIOR to sending it to Ireland to be “casted on spin moulds” by MITHRIL and Dan-Joe…
I must confess that it has NOT ALWAYS been like that… CT used to work in Ireland in Macroom , many years ago and could work hand in hand, on a day to day basis with the mithril staff… but for more than ten years now, CT lives in England.. London and he works alone… and tests everything, before sending his work into production to Macroom…

Great aclaration, Gildor, thanks a lot …. I always though that Chris does the tests directly on Macroom factory.
Testing all about his minis at home before sending gives me another proof of the profesionality of The Man

April 14, 2011 at 7:40 am #16783A very comprehensive – and comprehensible – review of the situation, Master Elf. What you say makes a lot of sense.
…Though I remain very curious what these “never heard of miniatures” that you’ve hinted at a couple of times might be. I assume they’re not The Man’s Irish Bronze Age range?
April 14, 2011 at 8:33 am #16788no it is pure mithril…. unreleased mithril…. 32mm, prototypes…. mw related….
April 14, 2011 at 8:40 am #16789Very interesting…
April 14, 2011 at 8:42 am #16790Thanks a lot Gildor for all these explanations an good news !.
Imisel, good luck for the MX. For info, I won last MX421 auction, costed me $121.50
On my side, I will bid on Dwar of Daw.
April 14, 2011 at 8:44 am #16791Anyway, but what was once was called “rarities” should be re-considered again. Ok, some figures are obviously rarer than others, but that’s all there is. It seems that there’s not only a garage or an attic, maybe there even also is a cellar or a large vault filled with rarities. So one day there might be a renaissance of the two lost armies, lead by some M16s.
Remember please, that some time ago we witnessed a large sale of Ms423A figures.
I can understand all explanations about this. Though it leaves me a bit puzzled. As for the “destruction” of moulds, Master Barliman, I think this has to be regarded as a rumour. I doubt very much that any mould ever was destroyed, as it once was told or promised.
As for the figures offered by The Man we have to keep in mind that he never told how many castings of a certain figure really do exist. Sometimes there were expressions like “only […] castings of this do exist” (but later on there were more) or “the very last …” .
I just don’t want to worry or think about these matters any more.April 14, 2011 at 8:49 am #16792The most important matter is to have minis in our hands, no ?
