Back in 2019, I got lucky to get a prototype version from Chris and I think I forgot to mention it around. This is suppsed – unofficially – to be “Tuor reaching the sea for the first time”. I don’t know if others among you receive it but I think some did. I plan to add it in the database (if possible…) under the ref “32gift3” and the name “Reaching the sea” Here are some pics.

strangely it looks like an “early work” Chris was doing back in 2010 as a version of Cuchulain in a series of Irish Heroes for Phaeton range that never came to fruition.
I think Barliman has seen this pics long ago and I don’t suppose there is secrecy around it anymore ?

I suppose you can agree they really look like the same but Tuor is a remake of Cuchulain.

Well I had confirmation, this Tuor is based on the Cuchulain pose but they are different, and the “irish heroes” project is still on hold (for 10 years…) but not abandonned, there are others like Cochobor.

also I got some info on the MZ621 and old M546-550 gaps but I fear we might not see those gaps filled any time soon. (MZ621 was supposed to be a “not-winning” suggestion chosen by Chris (he does not remember which one), and the M546-550 originally meant for Isengard Half-orc at Helm’s Deep crew was abandonned (because Lars only wanted 5 figurines not 10…) Chris had prepared a series of Vignettes based around the Hobbit to fill those 5 gaps, but the project was never accepted by Lars Edman so it was not done… even if some 3D concept was quite advanced.

There is also another prototype of a Witch King running which was an early creation of the MS496 that was abandonned. I will try to take a pic of it, but here again I think others have received it

it’s quite rare that the figurine rectangular base is set in this orientation. not fitting at all for a blister.

the “sleeping balrog” found by dwarves is an early work of [mith]MS564[/mith] that was abandonned, and then the model was reworked and improved to add a ground and dwarves. this “project” is one of the unreleased Phaeton Design miniatures for the “forthcoming” Necromancer series. But as far as I know this pic remains a project it was never casted (yet?)

there are others depicting a hooded mage and a famished dwarf (Supposedtly Thrain meeting Gandalf in Dol Guldur jails and giving him the “secret key to Erebor backdoor”) and another guardsman from the Necromancer… all of those being “unofficial” of course
there is also a picture of famous irish king of Eire, Conchobor. and a vignette with the Prancing poney sign and a bunch of riders being greated by a hobbit (which was meant to be one of the M545-550 gaps….

it could be funny to have someone “officially” submitting those ideas and make them win in order to be released on Gold Fellowship, as the “3D sculpting” is already made…

there are others that would be really a great addition to the range, but they were never produced because Lars did not find “enthusiast” to release them… (one of them being Galdalf meeting Bilbo at Bag End’s door (with the hobbit round door, and pines around)

but I don’t know if I can provide them here and I think Chris may have sent you pics in private already (at least some of you?)

but I can’t know if there is some “privacy” issue about the pictures sent to me by Chris. Chris told me from time to time that he sent pics to others than me though I don’t know who.
I will ask him if I can share them

I am trying to be as transparent as I can towards the MMP community, but I can’t go against Chris will if there is any :)

it’s always a bit strange, sometimes Chris does not write nor reply for years and then several emails in a couple of days…

My suggestions of the fallen Balrog was based upon use of something that I was aware Chris had looked at (for Phaeton), but I had never seen. Looking at the image I am surprised that he considered the suggestion to be too large considering it had been accepted in the past, AND, I had emphasised that it would be the size of the Entombed Balrog which I personally think to be much closer to a Balrog’s actual size, rather than the boxed set version. Great to finally see what was once a possible – such a shame Chris decided not to pursue the Phaeton range.

the paheton range is not abandonned but put on hold, for several matters. Chris does not want to abandon any of those projects they exist, but well, sometimes life has other priorities and besides, it’s always a fair question of sales versus costs…
If the project (like many others) were abandonned by Mithril, please consider that it is often because of Lars’ decisions not to “invest” in it.

I recently tried personnaly to convince Chris to make those projects come true , even organise polls or kickstarters to know if a project would generate enthusiasm and how much enthusiasm (if there are only 10 people interested, that’s not like 100…) and only 10 is not enough to produce even for Phaeton :/… that’s why I suggested maybe kickstarter?

Fact is, it seems Lars&Michael and Chris often have disagreements (to say the least…) about Mithril line of conduct (I think some around here know well about it… as I remember discussing that in private…) and now that Chris has sold all his parts of Mithril (it was more than 20 years ago I think) he is but an employee, and not a director/co-owner without any right on final decision…

Mithril Miniatures lost money for the last ten years. I suppose it survived as Lars hobby and finance by the “IT” part of his activities.
Just imagine an average of 100 miniatures a month sold at 20€ : 2000€
                                            – Digital sculpture on commission : 250-500€
                                            – production cost: about 300
