I received pics from Chris today, of the Balrog prototype of the “Fallen Balrog” that is NOT the one that he finally kept for Grond’s idea… so this won’t be the MS release.
He would like us to vote in order to know if people are interested in it, and he would then submit the idea to Lars for a future regular release.
So please vote!!! this is important if you want to see it(I will post further information when I get some, there is no wing yet on this one, it is a “rough” , and not toally complete)

November 26, 2010 at 1:11 pm #13529Yes, of course. Though I wonder about the size of the creature. And, besides, any coming regular M-release should be welcomed.

And it is exactly that kind of art I would have expected by The Man !!!!!November 26, 2010 at 6:49 pm #13542I forgot to give the precise phrases that were used to design this piece here they are…
“from morn to noon he fell, from noon to dewy eve,
A summer’s day , and with the setting sun dropped from the zenith, like a falling star”I don’t know yet about the size, maybe as large as a troll?
November 26, 2010 at 6:51 pm #13543I wondered who voted no (if he wants to give the reasons )
November 26, 2010 at 11:18 pm #13550I would say yes, but it has to have a Gandalf laying next to it too. Just like Master Milo said.
November 26, 2010 at 11:52 pm #13552please gentlemen, remember this was a prototype for a MS suggestion that did not include Gandalf…
I can submit to Chris that a Gandalf by its side could be a good idea too, but THIS balrog is not necessarily “Durin’s Bane” smitten by Gandalf.. it was sculpted rather as a balrog being striken down in the First Age during the Fall of Angband…

Sorry.
November 27, 2010 at 1:17 am #13557He looks like he’s sleeping or dead, nothing suggests it has just fallen. I find it correct from a technical point of view (althouhg some texture on the skin and better defined musculature would be nice in a big creature), but I don’t find it interesting (this dangerous demon looks innocent like a baby, not menacing!). I would prefer to see him falling in a dynamic pose. Something more film-like like this (I know the books don’t say they fought during the fell, but I think is a reasonable artistic license).
Just my two cents, like they say across the pond.
November 27, 2010 at 11:00 am #13560mmhh well he is not supposed to be “falling”, but “fallen”, vanquished, rendered totally harmless… ‘striken by the Valar might’ (these are Chris’ own words) that’s the idea.
about musculature wings etc, I remind it is a rough… still your opinion does count, since Chris wants to know if it is of any worth to complete… it is still incomplete and won’t be unless he has full support from us
about his face, the details are not very easy to distinguish, but with his angry face (the same as un MB300) I can hardly imagine him “sleeping” but crawling… defeated in search of a place to hide….to wait for centuries… or millenia… to regenerate again…
November 27, 2010 at 11:56 am #13561My bad, I thought it was the balrog of Moria after falling from the bridge. If we are speaking about a defeated balrog of the War of Wrath, I think it would be visually stronger to have him badly injured (a broken wing, serious cuts, lower ‘flames’ in his mane) and crawling. Something like this.
November 28, 2010 at 1:11 pm #13596I’m number 11 to vote! Good, 90% would buy the guy….
November 28, 2010 at 3:33 pm #13599I say yes but with the wings folded and “wrapping” the body

Absolutely yes to this design, to me I see the mighty Maiar vanquished – no longer a living flame, but an extinguished fire, vulnerable and powerless (and the term ‘fallen’ can mean to be dead). And remember, even the most valiant soldier may look vulnerable in death, no longer the confidant warrior he was in life .
A naked, burnt Gandalf would be a nice addition if the scale were consistent (and assuming it to be that Balrog) to the boxed release although having Gandalf next to the Balrog would be using artistic licence as Gandalf observed the Balrog falling down the mountainside in its ruin.
If it were a size more in line with a Mithril Troll that would also be good as I personally think the Balrogs were not as large as the boxed release, BUT I do wish the movie had used a design more like CT’s as it is far more to my vision than the GW style Demon figure of the movie (a Balrog with a tail!! – whatever next ).
I would also ask that wings were separate as I am still not 100% of the ‘winged’ Balrog camp .
Go Chris, Go
November 28, 2010 at 9:06 pm #13604… any question or answer is completely unnecessary….. yes of course this was my vote…. I like art expression of this suggestion…. humiliated and defeated beast of Morgoth…. sleeping like a balrog’s baby….
