June 30, 2008 at 4:16 pm #2440Good job you’re patient…
July 1, 2008 at 2:27 pm #2447By the way, congratulations to the Tree on posting his 500th message on the new improved MMP site! A record to be proud of – though it does tend to suggest that he has way too much spare time on his hands…twigs…leafy things…oh, you know what I mean.
July 1, 2008 at 3:33 pm #2448well with all the pics he has posted in lots of messages that’s normal to reach this scor, but well, you’re in advance theobald, you reched 500th post before the M500 release
July 1, 2008 at 7:28 pm #2449ahem … thank you … huoommm … maybe sometimes I was a bit too hasty … on the other hand I was not aware about the planned M(S)500-release, though I took my time to insists on such a metal piece being produced …. rhuoommmm …. what about some mugs or bowls of that apple water for all the regulars, Master Barliman? … huoommm … methinks I paid for this in advance, didn’t I? …. huoommmmrhuoommm
July 1, 2008 at 9:02 pm #2450You did indeedy, Master Tree. The M500 figure looks rather good too.
Actually, I’ve never got round to buying a Mithril Balrog – do people recommend it? I appreciate that the lion/man-shape, wings/no wings issues are very emotive – even divisive – ones, but I’d be inrterested to know what people think of the model. I don’t even know how tall it is!
July 2, 2008 at 9:22 am #2456well the balrog is quite tall indeed, very muscular. in matter of size well it is the tallest figurine released by Mithril…i think it supercedes 100mm but I am not at home…. it is anyway, much taller than 54mm… But the pose of the Balrog will not fit Gandalf M500 behavior. The balrog is sculpted running, looking straigh in front of him and not looking down at all. It could be used for a diorama but definitly not the bridge of Khazad-Dum unless you add some conversions.
July 2, 2008 at 1:50 pm #2461I do not have the M300, but the Balrog from (Rawcliffe Pewter). I don’t kmow if the size is the same, but this guy stands 108mm tall to the top of his wing and he has a weight of 304 grams. Very nice paperweight indeed!

Ahem Master Barliman, where did you see the M500??? Did I miss something in the last weeks?
July 2, 2008 at 2:21 pm #2464He’s the Gandalf figure in the current newsletter that was sent out a day or so back.
July 2, 2008 at 5:38 pm #2468Hello all!
My password for Mithril (Gold status fellowship board) is without function (***edited***).
Has anyone the same problem?July 2, 2008 at 9:32 pm #2470Works fine for me – you are trying the new one, aren’t you, not the old one that’s been in use for the past couple of months?
July 3, 2008 at 8:38 am #2471(zoetrop had not received the new one, I gave it to him in MP, maybe he did not receive the newsletter)
July 3, 2008 at 9:56 am #2473Oh, thanks, I guess I have to check out the newsletter if I can find it!
July 3, 2008 at 10:06 am #2474Well, these crosses in the newsletter don’t work for me….
Would someone please be so nice and post Master Gandalf somewhere here on MMP, so I can see him too?
It would be much appreciated!July 3, 2008 at 10:52 am #2475[imgz url=http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/29_m500_gandalf_kazad-dum.jpg]http://mmp.faerylands.eu/uploads/thumbs/29_m500_gandalf_kazad-dum.jpg[/imgz]
July 3, 2008 at 2:00 pm #2476Thank you Master erchamion for the pic.
Now this is a nice Gandalf. Full of action!
I guess I need to buy this one!July 3, 2008 at 5:31 pm #2482Speaking of the size of Balrogs, here is a little Balrog review of different manufactures, dating from the late 70’s to the GW Balrog.
Back row, left to right are: the GW balrog, a GW Dragonogre shaggoth that I’m converting into a Balrog, and a Grenadier Chaos Giant conversion into a balrog.
middle row: Ral Partha “Ral, Lord of the Balrogs”, Mithril MB300, PA fire demon.
Front row: unknown, old Ral Partha, Ral Partha armored balrog, really old Ral Partha, old Grenadier, another unknown, and a Grenadier similar to the one in the Sauron’s Dark Ones’ boxed set.
It’s interesting to me, all the different sizes and styles. Not pictured is the Balrog from the old Citadel Bridge of Khazad-dum set, but it’s packed away to remotely for me to retrieve easily.
The Mithril is comparable in size to the GW models, but is sort of hunched over and has it’s wings folded (one of which fell of before the picture), so it looks smaller. The Dragon Ogre thingy will make an interesting model when done, but has required a lot of grinding off of the more ridiculous elements (like the little dudes in his hair) and a lot of sculpy work for flames. I’ll post a more detailed accountof the whole converison process as it proceeds.
July 3, 2008 at 6:44 pm #2484I like the design of the Mithril Balrog (with or without wings!!!) certainly it fits my vision a damn sight closer than what the film came up with, although I do feel that it is over-size given that Ecthelion of the Fountain is supposed to have leapt upon one and ‘spiked’ it with his helmet (I think I have my facts right) and would have needed a spike the length of a sword to have done serious damage.
But I guess that Tolkien would have envisaged these creatures not necessarily all looking the same, so they may have come in all shapes and sizes (winged and un-winged )
I can’t compare it with other offerings as I do not really collect other small scale figs as a rule.
You can still pick one up cheap on ebay Barli – Bought a second one for £5 (thelastnazgul), which I hope to convert to a more confronational pose on the bridge which is why the choice of Gandalf works out great for me.
July 3, 2008 at 8:35 pm #2487If I can pick one up for that sort of price I’ll get one anyway, I think, just to see it in the flesh (er, in the metal…).
That’s quite a selection of Bogrolls, Master Presto. I’m mightily impressed. It kind of makes me wonder what your overall collection entails! I notice that you don’t have one of the old Minifig balrogs, though – a very curious creation that looked like a circus lion on its hind legs toting a whip and a sword. Probably that’s because the Minifigs range isn’t heard of much – TE having shut down its production faster than an Elf on speed – and I don’t think huge numbers got sold. I used to have a couple of hundred of the little devils (they were 20mm scale) but idiotically sold them for a pittance during one of my occasional lapses of concentration about 20 years ago. Some of the figures were rather good, if simplistic, but some were utter dog-business.
