I´m very happy reading all this comments (seriously, you´re making me blush ) and feeling glad that you like the miniatures. I´ve got lot of painted miniatures, and doing this kind of things doesn´t represent an effort for me (specially if the persons or reasons worth it).

Ok, that`s very important. The ambition for improving is one of the keys to achieve better and better results in every miniature painted (other is to search lot of information: tutorials, videos, step by step processes, etc

One tip to this: just use an artificial ligh (led, traditional bulb) very close of the miniature, in the direction you want the light. Take a picture of it and you will have a very useful and visual guide to paint

The washes are useful for some things but, in general, you can obtain very better results working with paint. Obviously, you have to spend a little more time

If you your pieces to others, you will improve faster your technique and results. The others´ criticisms (if accurate) are one of the best things to improve painting

Sorry, Master Mornedhel but, as a hardened miniature painter, i´m in disagreement with both assertions

Mithril miniatures are easier to paint than lots of other brand ones: this is, you can paint them (with a very good final result) in a short time comparing with the more complex modern miniatures. And is not necessary to be an expert painter to achieve good results. The problems are others:

IMHO, the reason is that Mithrils are just simpler or whith less details than modern miniatures (but the elegance of the style, the realism of the poses, the great variety of the range and of course, the fidelity to the original Tolkien´s ideas are still strong points supporting them).

And sadly, lot of professional (or high level amateur) painters may not appreciate this advantages, owing to the mentioned simplicity of the miniatures. And if good painters do not give support, it´s very difficult that the rest of amateurs pay attention to the brand.

The key is to show that is possible to make very good pieces with mithrils.

Just for example, two weeks ago I showed my Prancing Poney diorama in a local painting contest (not a very big one, but with 15 years of history). And it won the gold in his category and the best Fantasy entry of the contest, surprising (and pleasing) the judges a lot.

That is the way: maybe a single mithril miniature will not beat other ones, but a more complex scene (Moria, Helm, Erebor, Fangorn, Rivendel, etc..) will have lot of advantages. And the main advantage I see, is that you cannot recreate the 90% of the Tolkien universe with non-mithril miniatures. And there are lot of Tolkien fans among the miniaturists

Just my optimistic point of view

You´re very prolific, Master Sam Wise (and also a good photographer, very nice pics)

Like a lot the colour schemes you use in your minis, very naturalistic, and the little details, like the bow´s string. Your style also fits very well on mithrils, soft and a bit dark. And finally, the digital effects and the bottom scenes give a lot of personality to the complete picture.

And now, allow me some little criticism, some things you should improve:

– A bit more of contrast (shadow/light), to give definition to the whole.
– A bit more of cleanliness (for example, the belt)
– And remenber that trying to paint the eyes in all the mithril miniatures can be counterproductive to the final result. Mostly of the miniatures work better just with tiny clear lines, and no pupils

The hobbit movie is not the only good new these days

I saw it last weekend, and I have to say that I´m very pleased with the result.

Some good points:

– Good adaptation, with no major liberties
– The (amazing) beggining: Peter Jackson knows how to catch the attention of every fan since the very first minute.
– The best moment: the riddles in the dark, of course (please, give Gollum/Serkis an Oscar, seriously )
– Martin Freeman >>>> Elijah wood
– The whole movie is an amazing visual show

Some not-so-good points:

– I know that the hobbit is more childish than the LOTR, but a few scenes are a bit “cartoon”
– The 3D does not contributes much to the film
– Viggo Mortensen>>>>Richard Armitage
– I personally prefer more “flesh and bone” orcs and goblins instead of so much CGI

Can´t wait to watch it again, and of course, the english version too.
