PS …but not to cause any confusion…I thought it was the other variant, the bare headed orc in this pose (running with spear), not the raised spear, which was the rare variant. Could be wrong; memory isn’t what it was!

Howdy Imisel, Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but if you still have need of this orc perhaps I can be of help. As it turns out I got 2 in the same WB set and I alos ordered some from the TM castings back in the day (the latter have blank bases). PM if you are interested in trading. I am in need of some of the Gondor archers…Ken

Happy X-mas to Mithril lovers around the world! I shall visit more often and I might even pay my bar tab this year!

Some most excellent minis there, Elroi! And good photography as well. Oils? Welcome!

Believe me, if I had more hair I’d be sporting a Blue one;) But the link to the 1/2 Orcs is what is crucial for unifying CT’s Mithril/ME visions. Without getting into the larger (and perhaps endless) debate about half orcs in general, I find it to be a nice touch that supports my own views on the matter. The other ‘half’ must be Dunlendings and the hair-do is a cultural artifact. Good work CT!

“Mohawks” sported by Native American tribes of the Great Lakes region, particularly the ‘Mohawk’ tribe when going to war. Others noted for this fine fashion: 16th century Cossacks, Scythians, WWII U.S. paratroopers, Irish bog people (at least one), and various sub-genre of punks rockers. What is cool about the versions in the pending HD figures is the unity with the 1/2 orc figures!

There was an interesting thread on TMP recently which discussed the whole origin of orcs and how do they reproduce. JRRT had not really worked this out completely and some of his writings related to this do exist, but are never to be published. For an overly simple summation, I would say that the scene under Isengard in the Jackson films was closer to Tolkien’s idea and not just an invention of PJ (who researched original works). And Tolkien himself struggled with the origins and implications right up to his death. One thing is sure though, no female orcs are ever mentioned and there is a reason for this…

Love those pics David. I too once went through a phase of ‘Garage kits’ in the mid and early ’90’s. I still indulge once and a while, too, along with the occasioal super-detailed WWII kit in 1/35 scale. But I have mostly confined my excessess to LOTR related minis these days. Sanding resin can harm you! I know their are other modellers here too…

Well these guys are amongst my very favorite CT creations and I only missed buying the last set (which I subsequently acquired!). With that said I would echo the statments of ESTEL and Barilman above. I love Mithril but that’s quite a bit of money. M16 has reached $700 USD but averages about $400 USD I think. I would never pay that much for her either. I do have a dubious distinction here which I will now confess. I was gifted with several of those ‘crested helm’ pikeman. I once sold one on eBay half out of curiousity (the other reason was the wife’s ‘You want more toys? You have to sell some first!’ policy):/ It found a new home in France for about $100 USD, about 4 times the price of these figures individually from the generous buy-it-now pricing. I felt a bit guilty about that one and shall never do that again! Herbert may have tracked that sale and would certainly know the higher prices on any figures sold on eBay.

I think Vancouver has the largest ‘Chinatown’ anywhere on earth outside of China. This means, of course, quality Take Out. Otherwise you could try Vallejo thinner which would help it dry faster. Depending on the temperature and humidity I have to adjust things when using acrylics. As an aside, I tend not to use the GW or Dalimoore methods (dark to light). Instead I opt to give a slightly darker base coat, medium tones, with a final touch of highlights. The final step is a wash with oils (yes, highly thinned oil paint either black or brown). Works for me but takes practice.

Okay, I’ll play…I would like to see Gondor cavalry as well as warriors from the distinct provinces. Men of Dale, Variags, Men of Rhun, Balcoth and Wainriders. I agree with the Grey company suggestion as Gavin outlined. Perhaps more Laketown folks (remember the M133? More like him!). Maybe some inhabitants of Nurn (what would they look like?!). More trolls like the Angmar ones, i.e. armored. Plenty of room for 3rd age stuff. Shall I continue…?

I say that the already sculpted series should be released then start with the lists posted here and work your way down! There are wonderful ideas already and unexplored sections of ME. And yes, Master Tree I do remember well those days in the early ’90’s when releases would come out sometimes only 3 months apart. Those were the days and I, too, think the LR series is underrated., especially the Nazgul. I won’t mention the hordes from the East here, er, oops!

Where would one possibly go? There’s no credit out at the Forsaken Inn and the Green Dragon became a Starbucks. Besides, where else can you find a vintage Ms PacMan in the corner?

Unfortunately these do come from the ‘forbidden miniatures’ catagory in that they where produced by Ebob before being (politely) asked not to do so. I made these to ‘decorate’ tabletop battles or serve as markers. They also remind me that the cost of war can be little lead orphans and widows. They are like mini-dioramas I suppose. The next ones I make will include (gasp!) expired Mithril figures and should be of special interest to Master Tree and David. But more patience is needed…

I have a good many copies for gaming purposes that, if painted, could easily pass a genuine mithrils. I long ago decided i could never sell them outright, as some unscrupulous individual could pass them on as genuine. I think on some way to “mark” them as copies. Cut off the bases? Alter them all in some way? Or, perhaps, just destroy them outright and remove them from circulation. I now think the latter is the best course of action, unless I can bequeath them to a collector who would share my view of the integrity of the work.

Presto, I too have a 6 year old and an almost 3 year old. Perhaps they will value these things, one can not be certain. They will decide for themselves eventually and my guess is that they will share your interests. And I also share the other issue you mention. Anyway, to me it seems useless to worry about the fate of a recast 20 or 30 years from now. Don’t destroy anything. Whether people approve or not these, too, are now part of Mithril history and might yet find a place in that future museum!;) I, too was thinking of taking mine with me, Barli, though I would need a Viking longship to carry them and the additional scrumpy required.
