Hello fellows. Is it right, that the “Dead-Line” will be on Nov.11 ?
I am about finishing the figure . . . sorry for posting no WIP pictures, but there is absolutely NO time at all for taking photographs.
Good luck I found time for painting . . .

We had an extended deadline that lasts until the 15th ;)

Indeed the lack of time is a pity as it is that you couldn’t take pics of your painting process since the aim of this is more the “sharing with all others part” than the final “contest” but I do understand what you say, so glad you could paint a little and participate with us in this little League. ^^

Ah- I see. Thank you for the information Master Maenas.
Well- after glueing some small and extra parts on the cork I have to wait . . . and make some WIP pictures.
In this case the base. (the figure is already finished . . . ) Meanwhiling I spend more time for the base than for the figure itself.
Through the last years the base became more important to me than the figure. You can conceal a so-and-so paintjob with an impressive base.
            So- here are some pictures:

This is the wooden base. It is eucalyptus-root. Therefore the “holes” are natural and have a great texture.

The other one shows the surface decoration. I took some real granit pieces from Brittany and use some grass-pieces from Green Line/fredericus rex
which are highly recommended and which you can find here:

            And Master Milo: hurry up!

Ah…what I see just brings me joy. Your bases are very inspiring to me, always natural and very detailed.
I love that! And I am very honored to have one at home.;)

And yes, I will hurry up,as you say, once Mrs Milo birthday celebration is over.

Oh that base looks very natural, love his “aura” so far. Thank you for explaining its creation a little bit ^^ And also for the link you have posted. I will save it for future reference, if I don’t already have it (can’t recall if I do)

If I may ask… Where do you can get that beautiful wood block? self made? went to a wood cutter in search for pieces? a specific shop?

Well, Master Maenas, if I remember right I bought it three years ago at an exhibition in Germany which no longer exist.
By chance I found them there and bought four of them. This is my last one. Very hard to find those kind of wood block.
I saw many similar blocks, also eucalyptus in Eindhoven at scale model challenge, but without those “holes” . . .

I started painting. 1st layer is on, I am still not convinced by color scheme. Any suggestion is welcome.

Master Turambar your base looks amazing!!! ;)
Master Milo, in my opinion the colors you have choosen are very nice, I think browns and greens are the best colors for the woodman folk :D

Here my miniature ready to paint finally!!!I removed the cat and I added finally the hood!

Good work in this conversion Master Orc. May I ask if the cat is still “usable” ? If yes, which I doubt, I might be interrested.

I keep meaning to post some in-progress shots of the Balrog, so before it is finished, as of today 2nd November here is as far as I have got so far.

This is a resurrection of an old, unfinished project with a new paint-job, hence no wings but the Painter’s League has given a good incentive to finish it off.

The snipers amongst you will note the original wing location holes that still need to be hidden.

This is not intended to be the Balrog of Moria, but one of the creatures at the Fall of Gondolin.

Still not 100% happy with the flame effects, but we’ll see.

This is brilliant, David. As you mentioned- not the type Bolrog I dream of- bing a glowing piece of coke- for sure- but who cares.
And I like this Gondolin comparison. Absolutely brilliant choice of colours! And remember the size, fellows . . .
I like also the pale eyes. And I am curious how you will manage the whip.
Material for hiding the wing-gaps???? I found something special in 1066 country . . . he, he, he.
By the way: for my taste the Balrog do look better without wings, generally.

Master Ddaines, this Balrog looks trully awasome, superb colors!!! Congrats!!!:D do, you’ve used airbrush to paint it?

But My side, I started painting my Radagast:

Colours predominant will be Browns, I decided to paint the scarf in green, as a gift of the woodman folk…:)

I may have an idea for the whip courtesy of a wine bottle ;) – I have used this with my second entombed Balrog which is converted (but unfinished STILL!!!) to go with the Gandalf at the Bridge of Khazad-Dum figure. It is the fine wire that was used to decorate the bottle.

Yes Master Orc, most of the Balrog was airbrushed with chalk pastel to shade. The fiery mane is a dry-brush exercise.

What about using fuse wire? I’ve used this to replace the moulded-on thong on MM408. Makes the whip much more realistic, and the thicker gauges are reasonably robust.

That is an option as well Barli, thank you, hadn’t thought of that to be honest although there is far more enjoyment with the former ;). The robustness factor may make fuse wire a safer bet at this scale.

Yeah David, your Balrog looks great. I do not talk about wings, Otherwise another friendly debate out of topic will take place here.
